The actress sported a black Versace skirt suit from the Italian label’s pre-fall 2024 line. Johnson added on diamond jewelry by Jessica McCormack, as well as a pair of leather Bottega Veneta mules. Hairdresser Mark Townsend styled Johnson’s brunette tresses in waves, while makeup artist Georgie Eisdell gave the actress rosy blush and a mauve lip. Wearing a black strapless minidress by Wardrobe NYC, she paired it with sheer stockings, Christian Louboutin pumps and a 56-carat diamond necklace by Belperron. The gem was once worn by designer Elsa Schiaparelli, who modeled it for Vogue Paris in 1933. Johnson spoke to host Jimmy Fallon about her most recent viral moment after the actress’ supposed 14-hour sleep schedule made headlines earlier this month. “I didn’t even say that,” Johnson said. “I said that I could

Inside Truman Capote’s Legendary Black and White Ball: Worst Dressed Lists, Old Money Families and How the ‘Party of the Century’ Came Together

On the drizzly night of Nov. 28, 1966, writer Truman Capote would host “the party of the century” at New York’s Plaza Hotel. The Black and White Ball signified the peak of Capote’s career following the release of his bestselling true crime novel, “In Cold Blood.” “I feel like I fell into a whole mess of piranha fish,” Capote told WWD weeks before the event, referring to the circling socialites, politicos and fellow creatives who were desperately angling for coveted invites. What Capote called his “little masked ball for all of his friends” was anything but minuscule. Its 500-plus guest list was chock full of film, literary and high society icons. The party marked Capote’s successful foray into the starry world he’d always longed to be apart of. Today, the Black and White Ball is considered a historical touchpoint of New York society. Many have attempted to replicate it, with the cast of FX’s “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” attending their very own version of the storied soirée in celebration of the show’s premiere on Wednesday. Ahead, WWD charts the legend and legacy of Capote’s Black and White Ball. Who hosted the Black and White Ball? Capote threw the party in honor of Washington Post editor

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, you don’t want to get caught with eyeliner halfway down your cheeks. That’s why the best waterproof eyeliners should be in everyone’s makeup bag, whether it’s a gel, pencil, or liquid formula. Creating the perfect sultry, doe, or siren eye with the best eyeshadow palettes, best mascaras, and prepping with the best eye creams would be a waste if the eyeliner doesn’t pull its weight. Waterproof formulas today are known for being less likely to smudge, transfer, or feather throughout the day, making them a must have for vacations and even activities like swimming, skiing, or your routine pilates class. They’re also a non-negotiable for many brides during wedding festivities — cue the happy tears.  “Waterproof eyeliners are most brides and bridal makeup artists’ go-to eyeliner option because they prevent smudging and smearing,” explains Drita Paljevic, head makeup artist at Kevyn Aucoin Beauty.  “This type of eyeliner will last on oily skin, teary eyes, and during 100-degree weather.” In addition to the events that they are best for, waterproof eyeliners are also ideal for

Dua Lipa Sparkles in Strapless Gucci Gown for ‘Argylle’ Premiere Red Carpet in London

Dua Lipa made a glittering entrance on Wednesday night at the premiere of “Argylle” in London. The singer, who appears in Matthew Vaughn’s new spy movie, sported a strapless Gucci gown covered in sequins. Lipa kept her accessories to a minimum, opting simply for a gold collar necklace. Her makeup included edgy touches like sparkly eye shadow and smoked-out liner, while the maroon hue of Lipa’s frock matched her dyed waves. In October, she bid farewell to her brunette tresses, debuting her latest hair color on Instagram. Dua Lipa Lipa’s look tunes into two popular trends this season: three-dimensional texture and sparkling embellishments. The latter appears to making a comeback this year as sequins, beads and glistening gowns were one of the biggest red carpet trends in 2023. Earlier this month at the Critics Choice Awards, Lipa also opted for a textured look, wearing a custom red gown by Prada. She attended the show in support of “Barbie” after making a cameo in the summer blockbuster and penning a hit song for its soundtrack. Despite facing Best Actress and Best Director snubs at this year’s Oscars, Greta Gerwig’s dramedy scored eight nominations, including Best Picture and Best Costume Design. All About the ‘Mob Wife’ Style Trend That Has Taken Over TikTok

Clean girls are out, mob wives are in — at least according to TikTok. After minimalism returned in a major way last year (looking at you, quiet luxury) it appears that an entirely opposite — read: maximalist — aesthetic is taking social media by storm. Enter the “mob wife” with her fur coats, heavy makeup and teased hair à la Big Ang, Sharon Stone’s Ginger McKenna in “Casino” and naturally, Adriana La Cerva and Carmela Soprano of “The Sopranos.” Edie Falco as Carmela Soprano in “The Sopranos.” The recent mob wife obsession aligns with the 25th anniversary of HBO’s hit series, which some TikTok users have speculated is a genius marketing strategy. It isn’t just fans of mobster media that are talking about the trend: even Francis Ford Coppola, director of “The Godfather” trilogy, shared his thoughts on the fad via Instagram last week, noting that his sister inspired the “sultry, delightful Italian princess” character of Connie Corleone. Below, WWD breaks down the mob wife trend. Mob Wife Outfits Sharon Stone in “Casino.” One needn’t be a gangster’s moll to dress like a mob wife. Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa and the entire cast of “Real Housewives of New Jersey,” among other celebrities, have successfully channeled the aesthetic.

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Brrrr — it’s cold outside. As temps continue to drop below freezing, you’re likely well into your winter outerwear rotation of wool coats and puffer jackets. But there’s nothing quite as soft, insulating, and particularly glamorous as a fluffy fur coat. If you’re looking for a cruelty-free solution to this season’s cozy and luxe street style trend, look no further than our roundup of the best faux fur coats to wear from winter to early spring. Fur, whether synthetic, plant-based, or animal-derived, is constantly up for debate in fashion. Major design houses, including Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, and Stella McCartney, have weened off or halted production of real fur, while brands like Unreal Fur and Apparis offer affordable options that are just as good for the planet as they are for our fuzzy friends. While most faux fur is made from polyester, which gets an A-plus for insulation but a low grade in sustainability, new developments have been introduced to include plant-based fibers or recycled synthetics. A fur coat is always in fashion, as its one of the oldest forms of outwear

Beverly Johnson’s Modeling Career Through the Years: From Groundbreaking Cover Girl to Off-Broadway Debut

Beverly Johnson changed beauty standards after she became the first Black model to appear on the cover of Vogue in 1974. Before she walked the runways of Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Halston, however, Johnson had her sights set on becoming a lawyer. “I saw on television the civil rights movement and Martin Luther King,” Johnson said in a 2014 CNN interview. “I remember that black-and-white television set and watching the [police] dogs attacking people. There was just something about the injustice of that that I wanted to address as a lawyer.” Little did Johnson know, she would launch a civil rights movement of her own in the fashion industry. Johnson Enters the Modeling Industry Beverly Johnson walks for Halston in 1973. It was the summer after her freshman year at Northeastern University that Johnson considered modeling. Her mother, Gloria, accompanied her on a trip to New York City in 1971. There, they met with Alex Lieberman, editorial director of Condé Nast. It was through this meeting that Johnson landed her first modeling gig with Glamour, eventually appearing on multiple covers of the magazine in the early ’70s. “[The editors] were fascinated because the response was always positive when they put me on their cover,” Johnson

Awards Show Season Has Hard Launched the Women’s Hair Bows Trend for 2024

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Wrap it up with a bow. That seems to be the reigning thought for celebrity hairstylists for the 2024 award show season, where we’ve seen hair bows for women perch on ponytails and bedeck textured buns up and down the red carpets. Whether it’s a repurposed ribbon or structured velvet, one thing is clear: We’ll be wearing bows in our hair in 2024. As for the way you wear them, a quick look at recent red carpets shows us that it’s entirely up to you. Take the Golden Globes for example. Kate Beckinsale’s Barbie-style ponytail featured a smattering of miniature bows; a look created by hairstylist Scott King. For an understated, elegant effect, hairstylist Bridget Brager situated a bow snugly under Allison Williams’ textured updo. Hairstylist Brian Fisher aimed high with Zoe Lister-Jones’ look, fixing a big silky bow at the peak of the actress and filmmaker’s pulled-back bob, a flourish that balanced out the asymmetrical neckline and pattern of her Magda Butrym dress. Others took their hair bows in a bold direction. Hairstylist Danielle Priano placed a cardinal red
