EXCLUSIVE: China-Based Natural Beauty Brand Lu Ming Tang Draws Investors
PARIS — The latest skin-care company to draw investor interest is Lu Ming Tang, a natural beauty brand based in China, which has received minority investment from private family offices, WWD has learned. Those include the family office of Susan Rockefeller, Kara Ross, Christophe Cervasel and Sylvie Ganter, and the Guibor fund. Specific terms of the transaction made to grow Lu Ming Tang abroad were not disclosed. Skin care is the fastest-growing beauty segment today, due in a large part to the rise of the Asian consumer, a big treatment user. The product category is in investors’ scopes, with recent transactions involving labels such as Susanne Kaufmann. Natural beauty — which has a dearth of brands homegrown in China — is especially sought after today, as consumers worldwide become increasingly concerned about their products’ ingredients. French executive Marie Amiand, who has extensive experience consulting in the beauty industry, particularly in Asia, created Lu Ming Tang centered on Chinese tea leaves and their healing and purifying qualities. The idea for the line, which was launched in 2016, came after she was diagnosed with heavy-metal poisoning stemming from urban pollution.
