Yuima Nakazato Offers Made-to-Order Garments Virtually

Yuima Nakazato will today launch an online made-to-order program called Face to Face. The program allows customers to have a made-to-order garment without physically going out shopping via Nakazato’s web site at store.yuimanakazato.com. The project enables the designer and client to cocreate a one-of-a-kind garment. The client will ship a white shirt of her or his own to Nakazato’s atelier in Tokyo. Nakazato himself will then communicate with the client online to reimagine it, redesign, and return it to them as a completely new garment. When the garment is complete, Nakazato will publish it online with the client as the model. Nakazato is offering this service in limited numbers, at no cost to the client. An avant-garde designer, Nakazato is known for his experimental collections and challenging the way one thinks of clothing by creating revolutionary new fabrics from unusual sources. “In this time of uncertainty, and with the world entering into an entirely unknown era, I kept asking myself what we, as a fashion brand, can do for our society,” said Nakazato, chief executive officer and creative director. “I have come to the conclusion that we should start delivering one-of-a-kind garments to people around the world in a new way.” “To me, the essence of couture

Brooks Brothers to Stop Selling Product Made From Exotic Skins

Brooks Brothers will no longer sell products made from exotic animal skins such as crocodile, ostrich and lizard. In thanks, PETA, the animal rights group, sent the company a box of vegan crocodile-shaped chocolates. “Behind every crocodile- or snakeskin item is an animal who experienced a violent, bloody death,” claimed Tracy Reiman, PETA’s executive vice president. “PETA thanks Brooks Brothers for protecting these vulnerable animals.” In 2018, Brooks Brothers stopped purchasing mohair in response to PETA’s investigation of angora goat farms in South Africa. It now joins Jil Sander, Chanel, Diane von Furstenberg, Hugo Boss, Victoria Beckham, Vivienne Westwood and other fashion brands that have banned exotic skins. Only a fraction of the brand’s business was in exotic skins, according to a spokesperson, and it includes shoes, bags and small leather goods. The retailer stopped designing and ordering skins around a year ago and is selling through the last of that remaining inventory.

A Growing Resource During Pandemic, the COVID Help Network

The COVID Help Network continues to grow as state governments, facilities, businesses and organizations across 32 states have been utilizing the platform. “It’s to help connect folks within the medical community, to hospitals directly, to governors directly,” said filmmaker Mark Kassen. “We were able to build a piece of technology that could handle a lot of traffic.” Working with engineers, Kassen’s production company, Like Minded Media, is behind the operation in partnership with Masimo, a medical technology company, and the Patient Safety Movement, an organization working to eliminate “preventable harm and death in health care” globally. By linking health-care establishments and state governments with companies, the endeavor is facilitating communication and aid during the coronavirus pandemic. “We were at the center of a couple of communities that wanted to help each other, and so we started off just referring people from one industry who could help people in another industry and that started to grow,” he said. Kassen’s mother is a nurse, and his father is a pharmacist. “I have a soft spot for health-care workers, as we all, I’m sure, do in our own way.” Using covidhelpnetwork.com, governments, facilities and businesses are able to search by state or need, depending on the objective.

Cartier Bracelet Breaks Online Jewelry Auction Records

Sotheby’s continues its appeal to jewelry fans bored under coronavirus lockdowns. The company this week marked the highest price ever paid for a piece of jewelry via online auction. A Cartier Tutti Frutti bracelet — an iconic Art Deco design comprised of sapphires, diamonds, emeralds and rubies — sold for $1.34 million on Tuesday. This far exceeded the bracelet’s original estimate of $600,000 to $800,000. In addition to being the most expensive piece of jewelry ever sold in an online auction, this particular Tutti Fruitti is also the highest price paid for jewelry at auction in 2020. Sotheby’s said it is the second-highest price paid online for any work offered through the auction house, following the 2019 sale of Friedrich von Hayek’s 1974 Nobel Peace Prize in economics, which went for $1.5 million. Sotheby’s has now achieved a total of $7.4 million in online jewelry sales in 2020, surpassing its original estimate of $4.7 million to $6.5 million — a good omen for the auction house and perhaps the broader jewelry industry once business reopens following the COVID-19 crisis. Catharine Becket, who runs Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York, said of the sale: “The result achieved for this bracelet is testament to the

Nike Takes Top Spot in Global Online Traffic

In its latest report of online shopping traffic, SEMRush said Nike Inc. was the global leader in March with 139 million visitors to its site, followed by struggling Macy’s Inc. with 134 million global visitors. Wildberries, the Russian e-tailer, followed with 130 million visitors. According to SEMRush Traffic Analytics, Nike’s traffic for January and February was less than 50 million visitors a month. Maxim Roslyakov, senior vice president of marketing at SEMRush, told WWD that, “Despite having to close brick-and-mortar stores in the United States and other countries due to [the] coronavirus, Nike has not only managed to gain momentum, but has massively driven traffic to the brand’s official web site.” “The success, based on marketing efforts, saw a mass increase of Nike lovers flock to the official site,” Roslyakov said. “This is especially interesting when taking into account that in terms of traffic, Nike was at the bottom of the list in comparison to rival clothing and apparel brands a few months back in January and February. Yet now these figures highlight that they’re leading the pack in March.” In the U.S., Macy’s, which has been developing a plan to shore up its beleaguered balance sheet, led the pack with 119 million visitors

LIM College Announces Cotton Climate Challenge Winners

New York-based LIM College announced the winners of its Cotton Climate Challenge Competition, and the commemorative event, as one might guess, was held entirely online. The competition was held during LIM College’s first “Virtual Sustainability Expo” on April 27 and 28. The event featured students presenting concepts for sustainable cotton-based, fashion-related, and climate-positive businesses that would “reduce fashion’s negative environmental and social impacts and help reverse climate change,” LIM College said. Students who developed the top three concepts were awarded prize scholarships. The student award for first place, with a reward of $1,000, went to “The Three Farm,” a vertical indoor farm that allows for year-round cotton farming and reduces weather risks, by Alexa Geller, Maheen Nisar and Skylar Roa. The “Water Gauge” project came in second place, with an award of $750, which introduced water-saving crop sensors controllable via app, by Jillian Jackson; and third place, for $600, went to the “Eco Brush,” a recycled cotton cosmetic brush concept, by Cindy Demain, Leticia Hsieh and Natalie Misetic. LIM College president Elizabeth S. Marcuse said, “Even though we were not able to hold our Sustainability Expo on campus, as originally planned, we found an innovative way to provide students with real-life professional experience

V Magazine Hosts Zoom Model Cover Reveal as It Looks to Boost Subscribers

Stephen Gan is looking back to his roots as he navigates the media landscape during the coronavirus crisis. The founder and editor in chief of 20-year-old V Magazine wants to build the glossy fashion tome’s subscriber network, with the majority of sales newsstand-based. Gan has experience in this area, having cofounded Visionaire, the pricy in-between fashion and art publication that was almost purely subscription-based. “Twenty years later, I’m slowly returning to that model,” he told WWD in a phone interview from his SoHo, Manhattan apartment while looking out onto the usually bustling but now empty streets. “[Newsstands] were already all suffering before the crisis and now that this has hit we are going to need to turn to subscribers more and people who can preorder the copies at home,” he said. “I’m hoping that the loyal following and group of supporters out there who may have for a while got used to picking up issues on the newsstand are going to return to being subscribers.” It’s partly for this reason that on Thursday evening, V, which started life as an offshoot of Visionaire, is hosting a special newsletter subscriber-only launch event for its upcoming summer issue where its 15 covers (yes, 15) will

Rishi Kapoor's body was taken directly to the crematorium ground close to the hospital. Owing to the lockdown restrictions in place, the Mumbai Police allowed 16 members of the family to attend the funeral.

The Mumbai Police has securely guarded the place to avoid breaking lockdown norms. Meanwhile, seen at the funeral were Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Saif Ali Khan, Armaan Jain, Abhishek Bachchan and Ayan Mukerji. Rishi Kapoor’s daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni who lives in Delhi has been given the permit to drive to Mumbai. However, it seems unlikely for her to attend the funeral.

Carmen March to Shutter Ready-to-Wear Brand

PARIS — Carmen March is shuttering her label as the coronavirus crisis continues to take its toll on smaller fashion brands. The brand, launched in 2016, will shut down all activities on May 30, it said in a statement on Thursday, without elaborating on the reasons for the decision. The Mallorca-born designer, formerly creative director of Pedro del Hierro Madrid, was known for her Eighties-inspired silhouettes with a Spanish twist. Retailers like Net-a-porter and Montaigne Market carried her designs for empowered women, with signature pieces including structured bustier tops, ruffles and classic high-waisted pants, worn by celebrities including Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Rita Ora. “I would like to thank all the individuals and institutions that have supported me, not only on this last project, but throughout my career in fashion,” said March. “I feel blessed for having been able to work and learn so much from an amazing team of extraordinary people. These years have shaped me as a person, and have been the ultimate adventure,” she concluded. Moving to stem the tide of destruction from COVID-19, France’s Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, the country’s governing body for the fashion industry, said last week it has set up an action

Exclusive: Tang Shuang, Vogue China Deputy Publisher Resigns

Tang Shuang, the influential fashion critic and deputy publisher at Vogue China has resigned and will leave the company in early June, WWD can exclusively reveal. Disagreements over the newly-launched Vogue Business in China, which is published on WeChat and had acquired her much-followed personal account and rebranded it into the trade title’s presence, appears to have played a part. “After much deliberation, I felt that there was a slight gap between my personal style and the company and I decided to focus on my career and other interests,” she told WWD. “I am very grateful for the company’s sincere invitation, and I have benefited a lot in less than a year. I wish Condé Nast China every success on the road to change and innovation in the future.” Instead of starting a WeChat channel from scratch, Vogue Business in China launched last December by buying Tang’s account called Quanzi, meaning inner circle in Chinese. At the time, it had around 60,000 subscribers. Condé Nast China had not responded to request for comment at the time of publication. An authoritative voice in the Chinese fashion industry, Tang is credited with the launch of Xiamen Fashion Week in 2015, after one of the articles she penned

One more Irrfan Khan starrer still to release

While we mourn the going of one of India’s finest actors and the fact that we will never see him again, there is a smudge of sunshine in this year of darkness. Irrfan Khan has one film, and international project if you please, waiting for release. It is a film called Mantra – Song of Scorpions. It’s about a young woman-singer deep in the desert of Rajasthan, who sings and heals people. Due to certain circumstances, when she realizes that her life has been poisoned by the man in her life, she then has to go on a kind of mystical journey to find a song that will heal her.

One more Irrfan Khan starrer still to release

The renowned Iranian actress, Golshifteh Farahani seen in the new Chris Hemsworth starrer Extraction, is cast in the protagonist’s role. Waheeda Rehman appears in a brief but important role. Anup Singh’s debut film Qissa in 2015 also featured Irrfan Khan and was hugely acclaimed.

This is what Anup had to say about Irrfan as an actor: “I believe as an actor he comes to a role in the same way that a refugee comes to a new country. Just like a refugee, Irrfan seeks to understand the complexities of the new circumstances and his relationship with it and his own growth within the new space. That is what makes him the immensely innovative actor that he is. For instance, let me tell you about how he learned for himself to speak the Punjabi dialogue of Qissa and developed his approach to the character of Umber Singh. At one point, Irrfan stopped learning the lines by rote. He began to hum for himself the feeling of the scene. He would hum a phrase and then another, seeking the inner, hidden emotion of the character at that moment. And, then, slowly, he would allow the words to emerge within the music of the moment he had created for himself. His quest remained to find the lilt and the rhythm of the language and then the words would rise spontaneously, and authentic within the scene.”

Actor Rishi Kapoor passes away, Amitabh Bachchan confirms

Rishi Kapoor's brother Randhir Kapoor confirmed on Wednesday that the actor was in the hospital. He said that Rishi is not well and that Neetu Kapoor is by his side.

An official statement from family read, "Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him. He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way."

Rishi Kapoor had returned to India in September last year after being treated for cancer in New York for nearly a year. While he was in New York, his wife Neetu Kapoor was by his side throughout. His son Ranbir Kapoor and rumoured girlfriend Alia Bhatt would often visit the ailing Rishi Kapoor.

Post-COVID-19: Possible Scenarios for Apparel Design, Sourcing and Production

The apparel supply chain will look very different in 12 months’ time. Operational and strategic responses to the coronavirus will have implications on product design, development, sourcing and manufacturing resiliency for months and years to come. Here are some likely scenarios that the apparel industry can begin to prepare for now: 1. Post-Pandemic Supply Chain Consolidation The pandemic has put the lights out for many SME manufacturers and suppliers in markets like India, China and Bangladesh, with government small-business support obsolete. Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers will be absorbed by larger entities to localize manufacturing and take advantage of the benefits of vertical integration for supply chain control, resiliency and risk management. Brands and retailers will find that the diversity of their supply chain partners may be changing in the months and years to come. Post-pandemic, upstream consolidation will offer manufacturers the potential to provide integrated solutions and become a strategic partner to its international retailer and brand customers, achieving faster product innovation and lead-times. Welspun in India started with a solitary textile mill and has invested Capex in purchasing yarn spinning capacity locally to support it’s textile production, making it vertically integrated from fiber to finished product. Brands and retailers will be seeking to

232 Million Retailers, Wholesalers Imperiled by Pandemic, ILO Says

GENEVA — More than 436 million businesses worldwide are at a high risk of very serious disruption due to the severe economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic, a report by the International Labour Organization said Wednesday. “In the wholesale and retail business, which is the hardest hit, the expectation is that 232 million enterprises are at risk of severe disruption,” said Guy Ryder, ILO director-general. Other sectors of the economy that are hardest hit, he said in a virtual news briefing, include the manufacturing sector (111 million enterprises), accommodation and food services (51 million) and real estate and administrative business services (42 million). “Millions of businesses around the world are barely breathing,” Ryder said. According to the ILO’s latest study on  COVID-19 and the world of work, compared to pre-crisis levels, global working hours in the second quarter “are expected to be 10.5 percent lower.…This is equivalent to 305  million full-time jobs, which is a significant deterioration on the previous estimate of 195 million for the second quarter. “This has been driven mainly by the prolongation and extension of containment measures,” the report said. ILO labor economists estimate that the proportion of workers living in countries with workplace closures has “decreased from 81 to 68 percent over

Fashion of the Fittest

Over a month ago, I, like many others around the world, began to shelter in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Forced to stay home, I adjusted my life accordingly with Zoom conferences, grocery deliveries or curbside pick-up, doing a few projects and a mix of anxiety for good measure. While all of this has been an adjustment, nothing prepared me for the fitness obsession that would take hold via Instagram and TikTok challenges. Suddenly, it was no longer about just staying home and surviving this pandemic, it was an all-out battle of who would emerge the best when this was over. This scenario was not only playing out in the confines of my home and mind, but also in the industry I had navigated for the better part of 20 years. Fashion retail is facing its greatest crisis yet and only the fittest will prevail. Strength, endurance, flexibility and agility all determine a person’s fitness level. In fashion retail, fitness is measured by brand strength, financial endurance, creative flexibility and operational agility. As brands are in the midst of change they have to assess their current performance level and implement an organizational workout plan that leaves old fashion systems

Axios Hands Back Federal Small Business Loan After Criticism

Political news site Axios has handed back its near-$5 million federal small business loan. Jim VandeHei, co-founder and chief executive officer, made the announcement on its site after the venture-backed company received criticism over taking the loan from the $349 billion Payment Protection Program, aimed as an incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll. The PPP, run by the Small Business Administration, offers struggling small businesses up to $10 million and will forgive loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest or utilities. But in the weeks since the first round of PPP funds was made available, it emerged that a number of venture-backed or larger public companies were approved for the loans while many small businesses were not. In the case of Axios, it has 190 employees, much less than the 500 limit for a freestanding company, but the criticism stemmed from the fact that it is a media organization covering the federal government. It’s also thought to have raised tens of millions of dollars in past rounds of funding, with wealthy backers including Laurene Powell. “There has been a public backlash against a variety of

Document Magazine Taps Virgil Abloh for Art Cover

Biannual fashion, art and culture magazine Document’s spring/summer issue was almost done and dusted by early March, with no less than five fashion covers starring the likes of Kaia Gerber and shot by different photographers including Mario Sorrenti and Willy Vanderperre. But then the coronavirus swept through the U.S. and editor in chief and creative director Nick Vogelson decided to create five additional artist covers at the last minute to reflect what was happening. For those, he tapped Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear designer Virgil Abloh and four other artists — Judy Chicago, Christopher Wool, Mel Bochner and Edgar Heap of Birds — to come up with their own interpretations. “We felt it was vital to hear from some of the most significant artists working today, across a range of disciplines, on their responses to the global pandemic in the form of a series of special limited-edition covers,” Vogelson said in his editor’s note. For his cover titled “The glass is half full, always,” Abloh is pictured walking through the woods dressed in camouflage and holding an axe and a modern chair, with a receipt from a Lidl grocery store in Germany laid on top of the image. Oscars 2021 makes a onetime exception; to accept films releasing on streaming platforms owing to the coronavirus pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has brought life to a standstill across the world. Several governments have put their countries under lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus. People have been advised to practice social distancing and avoid crowded places. This has brought the theatre business to a halt. Several movies that were looking forward to a theatrical release are now considering releasing their films direct to OTT. Owing to the uncertainty on when the situation will be back to normal, film producers have been considering to release their films on streaming platforms.

Oscars 2021 makes a onetime exception; to accept films releasing on streaming platforms owing to the coronavirus pandemic

While the Oscars usually nominate films that have theatrical release, this year owing to the pandemic the Academy Awards will be making an exception. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Tuesday that, due to the coronavirus pandemic, streaming-only films will be eligible for the Academy Awards for the first time. And for one year only.

The Academy firmly believes there is no greater way to experience the magic of movies than to see them in a theater,” academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson says in a statement. “Our commitment to that is unchanged and unwavering. Nonetheless, the historically tragic COVID-19 pandemic necessitates this temporary exception to our awards eligibility rules.”

Meanwhile, upcoming international film festivals like Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival are reportedly considering remote, digital viewing options.

Aditi Rao Hydari - Dhanush's "duet" recorded separately

This is possibly the first quarantine love duet in India. Tamil actor Dhanush and his very lovely Mumbai co-star Aditi Rao have just crooned a duet together for a forthcoming Tamil film Jail.

Aditi Rao Hydari - Dhanush's duet recorded separately

Entitled Kaathodu Kaathaanen, the song composed by G V Prakash features the voices of the lead pair of the film Jail. Lekin mazey ki baat yeh hai ke, Aditi and Dhanush did not sing the “duet” together. A source in the know informs, “G V Prakash recorded with his friend Dhanush in Chennai. And then he recorded separately with Aditi in Mumbai.”

We wonder how the emotions of love can be expressed in absentia! But I guess the film’s makers would know better. Incidentally neither Dhanush nor Aditi is a trained singer, though Dhanush has sung a multiple times for G V Prakash. Aditi sang with Ali Zafar in London Paris New York. But to be able to sing in Tami, which India’s greatest singer Lata Mangeshkar describes as the most difficult language she has ever sung in, is no small achievement.

Dior Celebrates Lily of the Valley With New Homewares Line

PARIS — Tradition has it that on May 1, Dior gifts its employees a sprig of lily of the valley — a French custom said to date back to the 16th century, symbolizing good luck and happiness. This year, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the May Day custom has been put on hold as most of Dior’s staff continues to work from home. Instead, the French fashion house is celebrating the bloom, which founder Christian Dior turned into a brand signature, with a new homewares collection designed by Cordelia de Castellane. Currently holed up in her country house some 45 minutes from Paris, the artistic director of Dior Maison has revisited the emblematic house motif with a selection of porcelain plates, hand-painted or engraved glasses, and blown-glass decorative baubles and decanters. “It was one of Mr. Dior’s favorite flowers,” de Castellane said. “He was extremely superstitious, so lily of the valley was his good-luck charm.” In addition to gifting the flower to his seamstresses and clients on May 1, the public holiday that is France’s equivalent of Labor Day, Dior insisted that his florist grow it for him year-round in a greenhouse. That way, he could always wear a sprig in his buttonhole, or

André Leon Talley’s Book to Be Released Earlier Than Planned

ANDRÉ ON DEMAND: After André Leon Talley kicked off a firestorm of publicity last week with his memoir “The Chiffon Trenches: A Memoir,” the book’s publisher Ballantine has moved up the release date to May 19 from September. Originally slated to hit stores this week, last month the book’s debut was shelved until the fall due to the COVID-19 shutdown. Recent media coverage — much of which described in detail the great divide between Talley and his former boss Anna Wintour — upended that plan, after consumers’ interest ramped up. Copies of Talley’s tome had already been scheduled to be printed this month. A spokeswoman for Penguin Random House, of which Ballantine is a division, declined to comment about projected sales Tuesday. Talley’s decades-long career in fashion also included volunteering at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, and posts at Women’s Wear Daily, Vanity Fair and Andy Warhol’s Factory. By his account, Talley has dealt with ageism, racism and weight discrimination. “People have done things to me that I have forgiven them for. There are things in the book that you can’t imagine — the racism, everything. You don’t even understand how much I’ve gone through to get to be 71

Gucci Spotlights Animal Conservation Efforts With Pre-fall Ad Campaign

GUCCI’S GREEN PASTURES: Gucci is spotlighting its support for the protection of wildlife animal species and their natural habitats with its pre-fall 2020 ad campaign. In February, the Italian luxury brand joined the The Lion’s Share Fund, a non-for-profit organization that raises money to protect endangered species by partnering with global brands and advertisers using animals in their ad campaigns. Gucci has pledged to donate 0.5 percent of its paid media spend to the organization every time an animal appears in one of its advertisements. In its latest ad campaign lensed by Gucci’s longtime collaborator Alasdair McLellan under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele, deer, fawns, owls, blue birds, skunks, squirrels, frogs, hedgehogs, ducks and rabbits flank the models enjoying their time under the sun in a playground with swings and slides and flanked by a waterway. In keeping with the sense of free-spirited eclecticism that has become deeply connected with Gucci’s image in the Michele era, the images candidly portray a range of characters hula hooping or playing the flute and reconnecting with the natural environment. The Florentine house described the campaign as an “ode to retrieved innocence, a return to the infant world,” the same theme Michele developed for the men’s

How These Influencers Used Social Media Clout to Raise Money for Frontline Workers’ PPE

Over the last few months influential figures, major brands and celebrities have joined the fight in combating the coronavirus pandemic by raising funds and donating much-needed supplies to frontline workers. Many charitable efforts are springing up on social platforms, where fashion influencers with sizable followings are leveraging their platforms to do some good amid the ongoing crisis. Two influencers launching these relief efforts are Serena Goh and Anthony Urbano, who teamed up this month to launch the Mask Fund initiative, a fund-raiser that’s helping get essential supplies to health-care workers in the U.S. Through social media, word of mouth and the help of their influencer friends, they’ve linked with a larger network of independent fund-raisers in New York City and are working toward securing a 100,000 mask order. The duo came together after Urbano shared an Instagram post about his mother, who works as a nurse at a New Jersey hospital experiencing a shortage of face masks. “We had this one conversation that really scared me,” Urbano said during a phone interview from New York City. “[The hospital] was turning a lot of units into COVID-19 units and they weren’t prepared to handle it. I just remember I was so scared for her.”

The Ins and Outs of Experiential Marketing During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Gone are the days when retailers wondered how to magnetize and mesmerize shoppers. Today, it’s widely understood that it all comes down to experiences, and the execution of that delicate dance between brand and consumer can make — or break — that special bond that keeps them coming back. And that’s why [A]Non-Agency, led by founder and president Michelle Collins, specializes in consumer experience marketing — think of it as marketing’s new frontier. Collins’ firm has worked with agencies of record such as Publicis, M&C Saatchi and Big Spaceship, as well as luxury and other global brands, including Richemont N. America, Lancôme, Van Cleef & Arpels and Google Play, to develop and deploy ultra-cool experiential marketing initiatives. Here, Collins talks to WWD about the lasting power — and current critical need — of experiential marketing, and how brands have creatively interacted with consumers during the coronavirus pandemic. WWD: What are the key components of a successful experiential marketing event? Michelle Collins: I like to frame experiential marketing as a form of dating that hopefully manifests into a lasting relationship. Kriti Sanon shares a powerful poem on domestic abuse, urges women to stand up for themselves

Kriti Sanon is quite a poet at heart, and keeps sharing her thoughts with us. Her latest one, however, is a major shift from her usual romantic poems. She took to Instagram to share with us a poem that was written by her when she was in 11th standard, after hearing how her domestic help was abused by her husband.

"It breaks my heart to read that the domestic violence cases have almost doubled up during the lockdown period! About 700 cases alone in Punjab! And these are just the ones Registered! Imagine how many are not reported!," Kriti wrote.

Her poem went like, “As the sun sets spreading blood all over the sky, my heart starts sinking once again, sweat goes down my neck strikes. Feet steady at the door, he’s gonna be late. Wait I can hear him come, the sound is not a stranger. I can hear the doorknob, I can smell the danger. The odour tells me he’s drunk again, full of frustration, ready to deliver some pain.” By the end of it, she emphasizes that a victim of abuse must put efforts to deal with such treatments.

In her post, Kriti also urged women to stand up against such crimes, and shared a helpline number where one could report a case of domestic abuse during the lock-down.

Brunello Cucinelli to Support Scientific Project

CUCINELLI’S TEST: Brunello Cucinelli has partnered with the Università degli Studi university in Perugia, Italy, to research the best diagnostic and management strategies to implement safely resuming work after the country’s national lockdown will be gradually lifted starting from May 4. Coordinated by Prof. Antonella Mencacci, the pilot study will involve 1,000 of the fashion company’s employees who volunteered to be tested as a research base. “The research will be conducted in collaboration with the Brunello Cucinelli company as it has always represented an example of the application of ethical and moral principles in the corporate world and lays the foundations for the achievement of significant results, including the timely identification and isolation of possible asymptomatic carriers of the virus that could generate new epidemic outbreaks,” said Mencacci. According to the professor, the results will help establish the role of the diagnostic strategies in monitoring the infection, enabling the company to better understand the circulation of the virus in the sample of tested individuals and will help to outline an operative model to be applied in similar working environments. “I believe the knowledge and great passion with which these researchers are approaching this study full of hope will lead to the concrete results
