If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. A change in season calls for a change in dress — sort of. Temperatures dance between summer’s sweltering heat and dip to fall’s first chill, all in a single day. The upside? Ease into autumn without an excessive wardrobe overhaul. You can romanticize fall one step at a time in the season’s must-have boots that take your style to new heights, drape yourself in luxurious lightweight knitwear for all the cozy feels or top off your transitional weather ensemble with knee-sweeping statement coats for a touch of main-character energy. Whether you’re swapping in a leather circle skirt or adding a thin turtleneck to layer the look, consider the transitional weather season a fresh opportunity to experiment with new beauty sans sweat. Ladylike red lips and ’60s-inspired eyeliner flicks create depth and sophistication in a swipe while you alternate between extremes of sleek wet locks to hair-raising, voluminous body. At Cipriani Hotel in Venice, Chef Vania Ghedini Blends Tradition, Innovation

Chef Vania Ghedini admits that when she was offered to helm the Michelin-starred Oro restaurant at the luxury Cipriani Hotel in Venice flanking Massimo Bottura as culinary creative director, his name “sent shivers down my spine,” given his standing in the industry and his reputation. The opportunity was entirely unexpected, but she realized “it was one of those trains that pass by quickly and you don’t want to miss catching it. Also, Massimo is bewitching, it’s hard to say ‘no’ to him and I liked what he had in mind for Oro.” While unassuming and approachable, Ghedini has made a name for herself and is recognized as an influential and experienced chef, which led her to the Belmond property in April. The idea shared by Bottura and Ghedini was “to create a venue that would provide a unique experience, offering food from the territory, but also reflect our roots,” she says, referring to the fact that she hails from Ferrara and Bottura from Modena, both in the Emilia Romagna region. “There are many important restaurants in Venice, with different concepts behind them, but we felt we could make the difference.” Ghedini defines herself as “very direct,” and “no-frills,” traits she believes she shares with

How Do They Do It? Extreme Athletes Talk Pushing Their Limits and Setting Records

“Why?” That one-word question often pops to mind whenever a gut-wrenching, oxygen-depleting athletic feat is described or witnessed. Just mention of an extreme sport can send some seeking Google for a visual cue or two. Trying such daredevil pursuits is a whole other league. Think highlining — walking across a rope tethered between mountains or buildings, or wingsuit flying — skydiving at nearly 100 mph in a jumpsuit with wings-like folds of fabric between the arms and legs. What some consider extreme sports would be better defined as lifestyle sports or adventure sports, according to Eric Brymer, an associate professor in human sciences at Southern Cross University. “Extreme should be about self-directed independent leisure activities where a mismanaged mistake or accident would most likely result in death, e.g. solo mountaineering above the death zone, big wave surfing [on waves at least 20 feet high] or kayaking Grade 6 [rapids].” However you define “extreme sports,” not all are fast and furious. Consider Paul Salopek’s “National Geographic Out of Eden Walk,” a 38,000-km,10-year trek that is retracing our ancestors’ mass migration. The two-time Pulitzer Prize winner was too busy walking to talk about his slow journalism experiment. Last month Edie Hu became the fastest open

Casa Tua, the Swanky Miami Member’s-only Club and Restaurant, Expands to New York

Ever since Casa Tua’s founder, Miky Grendene, opened the exclusive private club’s first location in Miami Beach 25 years ago, members have been asking him to open an outpost in New York. Grendene first opened additional locations in Aspen and Paris, and now — at long last — he has found a home for Casa Tua in New York.  “I looked at countless locations,” Grendene says earlier this summer from his house in Aspen. “For me it’s quality, not quantity. And most of the time quality and quantity don’t go together. So it was very important, if we open in New York, to be in the right location,” he adds. “In The Surrey, in the Upper East Side, I found the perfect location for us.” Casa Tua is located inside the newly renovated The Surrey hotel, and serves as the property’s official food and beverage partner. Located on East 76th Street and Madison Avenue, the Surrey features 100 guest rooms and suites, as well as 14 private residences and an on-site spa. “I think that the Upper East Side needs — more than downtown — new blood, new things, new energy. And I think that Casa Tua hopefully will bring that to the

As the Deauville American Film Festival Turns 50, Celebrity Hangout Ciro’s Gets a Makeover

As Deauville prepares to celebrate the 50th edition of the American Film Festival, it is sprucing up its famed boardwalk with the renovation of local institution Ciro’s, the seafood restaurant that has hosted everyone from Kristen Stewart to then-President Barack Obama. The French coastal resort has been a fashionable destination since the early 20th century, when Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opened her first ready-to-wear store there, effectively launching modern sportswear. In the Roaring ’20s, the seafront became a gathering place for socialites, artists and celebrities. Painters like Kees Van Dongen and Foujita were the precursors of today’s influencers, invited by local hotels in a bid to attract publicity. Foujita made the gossip columns with stunts like arriving at the Bar du Soleil walking on his hands, while cabaret star Josephine Baker strutted the wooden planks with a cheetah on a leash. The town, two-and-a-half hours by train from Paris, has also been the backdrop of numerous movies, most famously Claude Lelouch’s 1966 classic “Un homme et une femme” (“A Man and a Woman”).“Until then, it had been a magnet for the social set, but the film ‘A Man and a Woman’ propelled Deauville into another dimension,” says Mayor Philippe Augier. “It gave the

Inside the Lower East Side Block Parties Where J Balvin, Omar Apollo and More Perform

When Abhi Janamanchi and Ryan Wright were looking to open a physical store for their two-year-old brand Le Père, it was about much more than a storefront to house their clothes.  “When we opened the store, my hope in both the location and also just the way that we’d set it up is that it would really be a hub and a hub for our community,” Janamanchi, who is the brand’s director, says of the Orchard Street space on the Lower East Side. Last week, J Balvin held a release party for his new album “Rayo” at the shop; in July, Denzel Curry debuted his album, “King of the Mischievous Soul: Volume 2,” there; rapper Cash Cobain performed new single “Rump Punch” from the building’s fire escape in June, and in April, Omar Apollo did a surprise pop-up concert to celebrate the video for his song “Spite,” climbing onto a car roof as the video played in the store.  Janamanchi and Wright are “not fashion people traditionally,” coming into the industry from the indie record label Awal where they worked with artists like Steve Lacy, Apollo, Rex Orange County, Girl in Red and more. The events started organically: Janamanchi, who is 30, is close

WWD Time Capsule: ‘Distressed’ Jackie Kennedy Corrects the Record on Her Shopping Habits

WWD knew that Jacqueline Kennedy would be a fashion influencer before she step into her role as first lady of the U.S. Always careful of her image in the press, and acknowledging her readership of the daily, when WWD made a few mistakes on her fashion choices, Kennedy sent a letter to correct the record on Jan. 13, 1961. Below, a reproduction of Kennedy’s letter sent to WWD. Letter to the Editor: I write to you at the suggestion of Mrs. John F. Kennedy regarding several erroneous articles about her clothing which have appeared in Women’s Wear Daily over the past few months. On July 13, 1960, you published a number of sketches of clothes with a story stating they were ordered by Mrs. Kennedy from various Paris couturiers. I am sure you will want to know the true facts and to publish them. Of the nine costumes sketched only three were ordered by Mrs. Kennedy — all from Givenchy, and at least two of the designers you mentioned are unknown to her. In the case of Grès, Mrs. Kennedy has never owned a dress by this designer nor seen a Grès collection or sketch. The Givenchy coat — sketch number one — was ordered not

EXCLUSIVE: Les Éternels de Balmain Launches the Fashion House Back Into Fragrance

PARIS — Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing has wanted to develop perfume for the house forever. And now, the dream has become reality with Les Éternels de Balmain, a collection of eight fragrances. Four eaux de parfum in the line, including Bronze and Rouge, are completely new creations, while the remainder are historical concepts, like the reimagined Ivoire and Ébène scents. This collection, which is being produced under license by the Estée Lauder Cos., launches Tuesday on balmainbeauty.com and balmainbeauty.eu, as well as in select Balmain boutiques. Each scent is priced at $300. Rousteing’s love of perfume harks back to his beginnings. “It’s like la madeleine de Proust,” said the designer, whose mother sported Guerlain’s Shalimar. His grandmother wore Chanel No.5. “A funny story is that when I got appointed at Balmain in 2011, my grandma told me: ‘You remember, I was wearing Ivoire?’” That was a Balmain scent from 1979. As a teenager, Rousteing was obsessed with fragrances, starting with Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier. Rousteing also adored the smell of the skin creams his grandmother used. “It felt like fragrance to me,” he said. Another reason Rousteing wanted to work on beauty was that Pierre Balmain’s story has always been intermingled with it.  The fashion house began in 1945,

The Characters of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ as Fragrances

Come Tuesday, Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” will once again grace screens for its fourth season, with amateur sleuths and mystery podcast cohosts Mabel Mora (played by Selena Gomez), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin) aiming to crack the latest in a string of murders taking place at the Arconia, their residential building in New York’s Upper East Side. Ahead of the cozy sitcom’s latest installment, here WWD imagines six of its main characters as fragrances. 1. Mabel Mora Maison Margiela Replica By the Fireplace Eau de Toilette, $165 Selena Gomez as Mabel Mora On a literal level, Mabel Mora and By the Fireplace have in common their spicy exteriors but warm hearts, with Mora’s deadpan sense of humor being akin to the scent’s clove and pink peppercorn top notes, while a fierce loyalty to her partners-in-fighting-crime, the cashmeran and vanilla accord base. Sabrina Carpenter’s New “Taste” Music Video Confirms Her Love of Prada Lipstick

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. After dropping her highly-anticipated “Short n Sweet” album overnight, Sabrina Carpenter released a new music video for her single “Taste” with two notable co-stars: Jenna Ortega and Prada’s Monochrome Soft Matte Lipstick. The music video opens with Carpenter plucking the Prada lipstick from an assortment of knives — the video references a slew of iconic Halloween thrillers, including “Death Becomes Her” and “Psycho” — and swiping it on, using the blade of a knife as a mirror. This is the second time a Prada lip product has made an appearance in Carpenter’s music videos; the “Please Please Please” video saw the singer apply the TikTok-viral color-changing Prada lip balm in Astral Pink. Based on our hands-on testing with Prada’s suite of top lipsticks, Carpenter opted for the Monochrome Soft Matte Lipstick rather than the more intensely-pigmented Hyper Matte formula. We can’t confirm the exact shade she’s wearing while battling over a boy with Ortega, but the rich plum shade looks closest to the brand’s Sienne shade. Interested in testing it out? Women in Retail Leadership Circle Celebrates a Decade of Empowering Female Executives

The Women in Retail Leadership Circle recently released its impact report, which highlighted key milestones over the past decade along with notable data points and several case studies touting the success of the organization’s members. The Women in Retail Leadership Circle was founded by Jennifer DiPasquale and Melissa Campanelli, who had spent time talking with women retail leaders. “They regularly heard stories that while there were a lot of women working in the retail space, the number of women in the C-suite was actually dwindling,” the impact report noted adding that the first annual Women in Retail Leadership Summit took place in spring 2014. “The event was a smashing, sold-out success. Following the inaugural summit, it was decided to move ahead with the idea, and thus, Women in Retail Leadership Circle was born.” The organization’s members include Jackie Ardrey, chief executive officer of Vera Bradley; Megan Crozier, executive vice president of merchandising at Sam’s Club; Michelle Cutter, vice president of e-commerce at REI; Sara Davis, senior vice president of retail at Lululemon; Courtney Graybill, vice president of personalization and customer experience at Kohl’s; Kim Miller, chief marketing and analytics officer at Saks Off 5th, and Anu Narayanan, president of Anthropologie, among many

The Best Chandelier Earrings That Fashion Insiders Will Be Wearing This Fall

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Fall fashion is all about bolder-is-better jewelry in 2024, from abstract metals to lustrous pearls to pronounced pendants and dangling drop earrings that practically skim the décolletage. They all come in lockstep with the revived boho-chic trend long anticipated for fall 2024 — but if there’s one standout style worth the investment, allow us to point you to refreshed and revived iterations of the best chandelier earrings. This season’s chandelier earring trends mark a departure from minimalist jewelry trends in recent years as the fashion pendulum swings back toward audacious attitudes (despite viral “demure” buzzwords). Defined by multiple tiers of cascading gemstones, pearls, beads, or diamonds, chandelier earrings are designed to reflect light and catch the eye, drawing attention to the face and framing it with glamour. The style is believed to date all the way back to 300 B.C.E; they were referred to as girandole earrings in the 17th and 18th centuries before taking on the name of grandiose light fixtures in the 1920s. Chandelier earrings meld with boho-chic stylings we’ve seen quietly trending for months, whether through tie-dye-printed Coach Tabby

FMG President Amanda Smith Chats WWD Weekend and Its Luxury Evolution

Fashion has never been 9 to 5, and it isn’t just Monday through Friday, either. That’s why WWD has had such success with WWD Weekend — a luxury lifestyle glossy that consumers might have picked up in the Hamptons, at international fashion weeks, at Art Basel Miami or received digitally in their inboxes. For this episode of the WWD Voices podcast, Lauren Parker, director of Fairchild Studio, sat down with Amanda Smith, president of Fairchild Media Group, to discuss the genesis of WWD Weekend and how the lifestyle brand extension continues to evolve. From photo shoots with Olympic gold medalists to world-renowned designers inside their lavish homes, WWD Weekend’s seven issues a year take the fashion industry, and consumers, around the world in style. WWD Weekend continues WWD’s longstanding reputation for top-notch reporting and fashion news, but it also leans heavily into luxury features and designer brand extensions. “It started a couple years ago when we would talk to a lot of the European executives about their passions and side hustles,” Smith said. “What you’re seeing is huge brands creating cafés, restaurants, spas, hotels as a way to engage a different consumer audience. Kamala Harris Dons a Suit From a European Designer Label for DNC’s Opening Night

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. For Monday’s opening night of the Democratic National Convention, Vice President Kamala Harris stepped out wearing a pantsuit from the French label Chloé. While many American designers, including independent ones like Sergio Hudson and Prabal Gurung, have suited up Harris for other key appearances, Harris’ choice of a French brand is notable. Last week it was revealed that a cadre of American designers were supporting Harris’ and her running mate Tim Walz’ campaign with “Designers for Democracy” merchandise. Along with Hudson and Gurung, Willy Chavarria, Victor Glemaud, Vera Wang, Thom Browne, Joseph Altuzarra, Tory Burch and Gabriela Hearst have created a hoodie, crewneck, scarf, tote bags and other items for the Democratic ticket. Just as some American creatives have been quick to put the word out of any wardrobe ties to Harris, so too did representatives from Chloé on Tuesday. Harris sported a bespoke khaki-colored grain de poudre wool suit and a white crepe de chine lavaliere blouse. The ensemble was designed by Chloé’s creative director Chemena Kamali. If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Updated August 20, 2024: This article on the best waterproof eyeliners was updated with new product selections after a second round of product testing. Our editors are currently testing waterproof eyeliners from brands like Thrive Causemetics for consideration in this expert-approved guide. If the eyes are the windows to the soul, you don’t want to get caught with eyeliner halfway down your cheeks. That’s why the best waterproof eyeliners should be in everyone’s makeup bag, whether it’s a gel, pencil, or liquid formula. Creating the perfect sultry, doe, or siren eye with the best eyeshadow palettes, best mascaras, and prepping with the best eye creams would be a waste if the eyeliner doesn’t pull its weight. Waterproof formulas today are known for being less likely to smudge, transfer, or feather throughout the day, making them a must have for vacations and even activities like swimming, skiing, or your routine pilates class. They’re also a non-negotiable for many brides during wedding festivities — cue the happy tears.  “Waterproof eyeliners are most brides and bridal makeup artists’ go-to eyeliner option because they prevent smudging and

The 12 Best Setting Sprays for Every Skin Type, Tested by Editors

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Setting sprays are underrated makeup bag secret weapons. Primers and powders promise a locked-in complexion, but the best setting sprays uniquely work to fuse makeup on the skin without adding extra layers of cake. A quick and simple spritz can be the difference between flawless glam and a makeup meltdown, but not all face finishers are created the same; some control oil while others boost radiance. We tested the best makeup setting sprays during long days at the office and throughout sweltering heat waves to determine the top formulas to add to your day-to-night glam routines. So what does a setting spray do, exactly? It’s a fine mist that deposits a quick-drying film over your face to set quick-to-smear complexion products like liquid foundation, cream contour, and liquid blush. It makes for a non-cakey swap for blotting powder that you can apply in between makeup steps or to refresh your look throughout the day. Jennifer Lopez, Ashton Kutcher and More Attend Intuit Dome Opening, Headlined by Bruno Mars and a Surprise Performance by Lady Gaga

“I can’t wait to get in there and get the games going,” said Derrick Jones Jr., standing in front of the Intuit Dome — a $2 billion project and the new home venue of the Los Angeles Clippers — in Inglewood, Calif. The basketball forward was signed to the team this year, reportedly for a three-year, $30 million deal. “It’s amazing,” he said of having the space, which was unveiled on Thursday evening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the 80,000-square-foot outdoor plaza followed by a sold-out Bruno Mars concert inside. “And I can’t wait to listen to some good music tonight.” Chase Stokes and Kelsea Ballerini attend the Intuit Dome Grand Opening at Intuit Dome on Aug. 15, 2024 in Los Angeles. The Clippers previously played their home games at Crypto.com Arena in L.A., shared with the Lakers, Sparks and Kings, from 1999 until now. “Nobody want to share arenas with nobody. It had to happen,” he smiled, dressed in Heron Preston and Gallery Dept. with a Louis Vuitton belt bag and Nike SB Dunks. “This is my first year with the team and the first year for the dome. It’s going to be exciting. I can’t wait.” “Hey! How you doing?” a voice interrupted. It

Updated August 16, 2024: This article on the best sunscreens to wear under makeup was updated after an additional round of product testing. Our editors are currently testing sunscreens from brands like Coola for consideration in this guide. We all know the golden rule of a great skin care routine — Always. Wear. Sunscreen. As any dermatologist will tell you, the perfect sunscreen for you is the one you’ll stay loyal to. For those of us who wear makeup on the daily, that means you need one of the best sunscreens to wear under makeup that doesn’t pill, smell, or cause your makeup to melt off like Dalí painting by the time the sun goes down. Sunscreens and makeup don’t always play nice together. Some mineral sunscreens cause a white cast that throws off the undertones of your best foundation, while others err on the greasy side, preventing your makeup from staying put all day. A new crop of face sunscreens from established brands like La Roche-Posay to emerging ones like Eighth Day have recently released sunscreens that don’t just layer well

Celebrity beauty has never been so bedazzled. After launching fragrance in 2021, country music icon Dolly Parton is deepening her beauty entrepreneurial footprint with a makeup line and it’s everything you would expect. The launch, beginning with Dolly Beauty’s Heaven’s Kiss lipstick collection available in four shades for sale on its website for $20 each, is in distinctly Dolly nomenclature and packaging, encompassed in sparkling rhinestones. “I’ve always said I never leave a rhinestone unturned,” she told WWD in an exclusive interview from her hometown of Nashville. “I’ve wanted to be pretty my whole life like most girls, especially country girls that have a dream of glamour. I started creating my own little makeup things at home when I was just a kid, and I’ve been known for wearing makeup — usually too much — for years.” Dolly Parton Lipsticks The industry expects the line to be as resonant as the brand’s famed mastermind. Inside the SJ x WWD Tech Report: The Artificial Intelligence Issue

Far from some distant sci-fi fantasy, artificial intelligence has made its way into all aspects of our lives and the fashion industry is no exception. In this episode, Sourcing Journal business reporter and tech editor Meghan Hall joins Lauren Parker, director of Fairchild Studio, to discuss the SJ x WWD Tech Report: The Artificial Intelligence Issue. The podcast teases report highlights, from how AI is impacting demand planning on the “back end” of fashion to more consumer-facing applications like personalization and customization. Also explored is whether “AI” in a value proposition boosts investment and stock prices, and how companies are allocating such funds when they procure them. Ultimately, brands and retailers must understand AI’s nuances to optimize its power. As Manju Rajashekhar, Etsy’s vice president of engineering said, “We don’t want to use AI just for the sake of AI.” To listen to the podcast episode, CLICK HERE. To download the report, CLICK HERE.

Sixties Model Peggy Moffitt Dead at 87

Sixties-era model and muse Peggy Moffitt died on Saturday in Beverly Hills at age 87 after a long illness. Her son Christopher Claxton confirmed the news. She was known for her distinctive five-point Vidal Sassoon haircut, harlequin eye makeup and for her collaboration with Rudi Gernreich, including modeling the late Los Angeles designer’s monokini in 1964, which was an international news event after Women’s Wear Daily published the topless image. Despite the fact the design was never intended to be produced commercially, but to be a symbol of women’s freedom, it sparked outrage. Though it defined her much of her life, it was only a blip in a long fashion career during which she promoted unrestricted movement in knitted clothing that was both avant-garde and effortless at a time when women were rallying for more social and political freedom. A native of L.A., Moffitt was born at Hollywood Hospital and attended Marlborough School for girls. She studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City in the 1950s, where her instructors included Sydney Pollack and Martha Graham and her classmates were Robert Duvall and Suzanne Pleshette. That led to a short contract at Paramount Pictures and a series of supporting roles. When she

Getting Ready for the Premiere of ‘Blink Twice’ With Star Naomi Ackie

“I woke up quite fresh actually,” says Naomi Ackie from the glam chair, the morning after the premiere of her new movie “Blink Twice.” “It was just so good to see the film with an audience.”  “Blink Twice” is very much a movie to be seen in a theater, surrounded by people gasping and laughing around you. Zoë Kravitz‘s directorial debut, the movie — originally called “Pussy Island” — stars Ackie as a woman working a catering gig when she meets a wealthy tech billionaire (played by Channing Tatum) and accepts his offer to come to his private island. Once on the island, things slowly reveal themselves to be not as they seem. Ackie was prepping to portray Whitney Houston in the 2022 movie “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” when she got the script for Kravitz’s movie from her agents.  “I was holed up in my flat in London just trying to figure out how to make this character work, and I got an email from my agents being like, ‘hey, Zoë Kravitz wants to talk to you about this film called ‘Pussy Island,’ and I was like, ‘oh, that is the coolest title for a film ever. Essence’s New TikTok-Viral Call Me Queen Mascara Is the Ultimate Lash Lengthener That’s Just $5

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. The Essence Lash Princess Mascara is one of the most viral TikTok beauty products to hit the scene, so the brand’s successor has a lot to live up to. Next in line for the throne is the new Call Me Queen Dramatic False Lash Effect Mascara, so, as WWD Shop’s resident drugstore mascara tester, I took it for a whirl and compared it to the OG. Spoiler alert: It’s completely different but equally impressive. The Essence Call Me Queen mascara launched in July with much fanfare — within just a few weeks, it’s already been spotlit in over 25 million dedicated TikTok posts, with first impression videos from beauty creators earning hundreds of thousands of views. Considering the Lash Princess False Lash Mascara reigns as the number one bestselling beauty product on Amazon with over 250,000 five-star reviews, it’s no surprise that any new Essence mascara would release with built-in hype. I’ve tested over a hundred mascara formulas at every price point (yes, my lashes have seen better days). But I’m of the camp that there’s no need to shell out dozens of

Most Stylish Olympics Ever: Who’s a ‘Shoe-in’ for a Sneaker Deal, Who Mastered the Art of the Nail and More

The Paris Games may go down as the most stylish Olympics ever, with athletes playing to the TV, streaming and social media spotlights, and engaged spectators lapping it up. Thanks to the pandemic, the last summer Olympics held in Tokyo in 2021 were without fans, and while social media was certainly around during the 2016 Rio Games, the impact was nothing compared to what’s been happening now, with more than 8.5 billion engagements, up 40 percent from Tokyo, according to Deadline. The Paris Games have also been getting huge audiences daily on NBC and Peacock, up 80 percent from Tokyo, the entertainment site reported. Athletes have been drawing people in by posting behind-the-scenes videos and photos giving exposure to their sponsors. (Who can forget Italian gymnast Giorgia Villa’s parmesan photos?) As a result, they’ve become stars overnight in a way we’ve never seen before. American pommel horse specialist Stephen Nedoroscik, Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec and South Korean shooter Kim Yeji and Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon have also enjoyed their moments of viral obsession. What has made each of them standouts is yes, their athletic achievements, but also their style and personality. Nedoroscik’s Clark Kent-esque glasses became so recognizable after his performance during the team event

H&M Unveils Colorful Collaboration With Anamika Khanna

H&M’s latest designer collaboration with Indian designer Anamika Khanna, announced on Thursday, comes at a special time. Marking 20 years since the first designer collaboration — with Karl Lagerfeld in 2004 — the unusual strategy has broken boundaries through the years, and resulted in projects with Alexander Wang, Diane von Furstenberg, Stella McCartney and more. This is H&M’s second collaboration with an Indian designer, following Sabyasachi Mukherjee in 2021. Like Sabyasachi, Anamika Khanna is based out of Kolkata. She launched her brand in 1998, and is known as one of the top designers in the country. The project comes as H&M closes in on a decade in India, after launching there in 2015. Today, H&M operates about 62 stores in the country in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Ann-Sofie Jahansson and Anamika Khanna. The Anamika Khanna collaboration will launch Sept. 5 in select countries, including in 20 stores in India, as well as the U.K., South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, with an aim to bring Indian design into those markets. While Khanna is often associated with high glamour wedding-wear, her H&M collection brings glamour, but “reimagining it with comfort, and a fresh look at traditional cuts such as kurta pajamas, caftans and lungi

Blake Lively Boldly Steps Where Other Celebrities Will Not: Self Styling

On the press tour for her new film “It Ends with Us,” queen of self styling Blake Lively has put her fashion quirks on full display — with mixed degrees of success. 2002 vintage Versace A+ Blake Lively at the “It Ends With Us” New York premiere on Aug. 6. (Photo by John Nacion/Variety via Getty Images) This is the best look of the whole tour. This 2002 Versace dress, worn by Britney Spears to the brand’s spring 2003 fashion show, works perfectly with Lively’s floral spring/summer theme for this press tour. The one-shoulder, multicolored sequined dress with halter neckline is extremely flattering on Lively, just as it was on Spears back then.  Chanel blue T and jeans: B+ Blake Lively in New York City on Aug. 3. We love the daytime casual interpretation of the floral theme. It comes across as jeans and a T-shirt, but when you pay close attention, you see the craftsmanship. The summer waves and the rose-designed handbag give the final touch.   Hot pink: C Blake Lively promotes “It Ends With Us” at Betty Blooms Pop-Up in Chelsea on Aug. 3. Understanding the Power of an Outsider Mentor

Mentorship in the fashion industry is broken.  If you didn’t start with the unpaid internship or an entry-level role and pay in sweat equity, many people will keep you at arm’s length. The unwritten law is that if you are willing to (and can) submit to those conditions, in exchange, you get compensated in other ways — clothing, lunches, and entrée into the club. As a result of these expectations, the opportunity to come up in the ranks on the corporate side of fashion in the U.S. has excluded many for decades — if not completely, then certainly for promotions, raises and executive roles. Moreover, because of intense competition for a handful of roles, whether you will truly find support can be another thing entirely. Sadly, in an industry dominated by women, it’s historically been incredibly tough to transition into what I would call balanced motherhood if that’s your chosen path. For my formative years, I deified fashion and designers, runway shows, and the flash of the industry. It held a powerful pull for me but it also scared and intimidated me. Although I worked in vintage shops in college, my early career was in tech and start-ups. My view of the fashion industry

The 16 Best Lip Glosses, Tested & Reviewed by Editors

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Updated August 7, 2024: This article on the best lip glosses was updated with new product picks after a second round of testing. Our editors are currently testing additional lip glosses from brands like Clarins and L’Oréal for consideration in this expert-approved guide. Though a perennial staple for many, lip gloss is rising in popularity as trends from the early aughts continue to dominate the internet and IRL, with the pendulum swinging away from matte and steadfastly in the direction of high shine. The best lip glosses are no longer sticky, tacky, and gone within a few minutes, as improvements to formulas mean glossy pouts are now possible with long-lasting pigments and good-for-your-lips ingredients. In place of favorites from 20 years ago, you’ll now find many options that pair megawatt shine with the smooth, buttery texture of a lip balm. In fact, many of the lip glosses on our list could just as easily fall into the category of a lip oil or lip serum, as brands like Rhode and Merit continue to turn to emollient, hydrating ingredients for shine. “Originally,

The Iconic Urban Decay Original Naked Eyeshadow Palette Is Finally Back — For Now.

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. You can finally toss the Naked Eyeshadow Palette you’ve been squirreling away since 2015. After discontinuing the 12-pan palette that carried millennials and Gen X’s finest through the golden years of 2010 to 2018, Urban Decay has resurrected that decade’s most legendary beauty product. The Urban Decay Original Naked Eyeshadow Palette is back for a limited time and now’s your chance to buy it over at Ulta.com. The Naked Palette was an anomaly for Urban Decay when it launched in 2010, a brand whose eyeshadow palettes were full of vibrant colors rather than the shimmery, earthy nudes you’ll find in the reissued Naked palette. It was a viral success primarily by word of mouth versus TikTok influencers and counted many celebs as fans (Kate Middleton is rumored to have recommended it to Michelle Obama in 2016). One Naked Palette was sold every six seconds until it was discontinued in 2018, which according to the brand, amounted to over $1 billion in sales. When it left shelves seemingly for good, Urban Decay held a funeral in its honor with Nicole Richie

Everything One Fashion Writer Wore for a Week in Lake Como

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. There is no one way to vacation in Italy in the summer and so, of course, there is no one way to pack for it. Each dreamy locale calls for its own condensed wardrobe—both stylistically and from a utilitarian perspective. Lake Como is often referred to in relation to a certain American actor who has fallen in love with it. He did not create this special lakeside town one-to-two hours from Milan by car, but he did help put it on the map.
