This Spring Is Erika Henningsen’s Season to Shine

Erika Henningsen has been experiencing fame from all angles this spring. On a recent sunny morning in New York, the actress was in the heart of Times Square, fielding polite compliments on the street during a photoshoot. “I love your work!” one man offered, passing by as Henningsen posed with the area’s iconic signage in the background. On the other side of the street, it was Henningsen doing the fawning as she stooped down to pet a pair of corgis out for a walk. It turned out to be Dash and Lili, an Insta-famous dog duo who boast half a million Instagram followers. You never know who you’ll run into in New York, or where you’ll run into them. Henningsen is currently starring in Broadway musical “Just in Time,” the new immersive jukebox-style production led by Jonathan Groff as the ’50s-era crooner Bobby Darin, which is already drawing a famous crowd. “Last night I looked out [in the crowd], I was like, oh, that’s Steve Martin right there,” she says. “I don’t get nervous, it’s just a very odd experience to clock people whilst you’re also telling the story and to have to tell your brain, ‘OK, cool, that person is here

How Beyoncé’s Anrealage LED Dress for ‘Cowboy Carter Tour’ Was Created: 35,000 Lights, Japanese Architecture Inspiration and Extensive Rehearsals

Beyoncé debuted her “Cowboy Carter Tour” on Monday in Los Angeles, lighting up the stage with an LED dress created by Kunihiko Morinaga, the designer behind the Japanese brand Anrealage. The dress, worn during her performance of “Daughter,” features approximately 35,000 full-color LEDs that transform continuously to match the song’s progression. Morinaga, who had previously collaborated with Beyoncé during the singer’s “Renaissance” era, was invited to create the one-of-a-kind dress after presenting Anrealage’s fall 2025 collection during Paris Fashion Week in March. The collection featured a similar high-tech dress that inspired Beyoncé’s styling team, led by Shiona Turini. “After accepting the offer, I, along with my team, traveled back and forth between Japan and Los Angeles to design and produce an original outfit. The result was a crinoline dress made with our signature ‘Led Textile,’ a flexible fabric capable of displaying shifting colors, patterns and graphics like a liquid crystal screen,” Morinaga told WWD via email. ‘Wear Whatever the F You Want’: Ten Years After Hit TV Show ‘What Not to Wear,’ Stacy London and Clinton Kelly Embrace Evolution in Styling and Friendship

In “What Not to Wear,” Stacy London and Clinton Kelly spent 10 years giving “tough love” to nominated participants, who were notably chosen for their questionable wardrobe choices. Now, in “Wear Whatever the F You Want,” the stylists are holding back criticism, biting their tongues “so hard that you think it’s going to bleed,” Kelly told WWD.  “When you take that approach to styling, where it’s client first, clients have opinions that you might not necessarily agree with, or taste that you don’t agree with. We’re all different people, right?” he said. Available on Prime Video with eight episodes shot in New York City, “Wear Whatever the F You Want” is a makeover of the makeover show that made London and Kelly one of the most popular duos on television in the early noughties. In the new version, the goal is to celebrate individuality and let participants express themselves without dictating rules. “You can’t say anymore, when it comes to personal taste and style, that someone’s right or wrong. It’s what makes them the happiest,” London said. Stacy London and Clinton Kelly in “What Not to Wear” (2010). “What Not to Wear” aired on TLC from 2003 to 2013, a time when social media was

Gideon Glick Brings a Choreographer’s Vision to Life in ‘Étoile’

Reading early scripts for new ballet drama series “Étoile,” Gideon Glick had a hunch that one of the characters was meant for him.  Show creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Gilmore Girls” fame, had already written the first two episodes when they invited Glick onboard as part of the writers’ room. “I saw the character breakdown and I saw Tobias and I thought, ‘Oh, this feels like me, or at least how they perceived me,’” he adds.  ”And every time they talked about the character, they would gesture to me, but they hadn’t offered me the part.” The show is set in the ballet world of New York and Paris, tracking the personalities that keep the dance companies going from dancers and creatives, to the administrators and benefactors. Glick stars as the genius but quirky choreographer Tobias, who ends up in Paris as part of an international talent “swap” between two ballet companies, fictionalized versions of the American Ballet Theatre and the Paris Opera Ballet. Olivier Rousteing and Johnnie Walker have teamed up for the first Johnnie Walker Vault release, “Couture Expression.”   ”When I spoke with the team of Johnnie Walker, I was so excited because we were creating something from scratch and unique,” said Rousteing of the collaboration, which includes four limited-edition whisky blends bottled in Baccarat decanters. The four Couture Expression blends are bottled in editions of 25, retailing for $20,000 each. “Creating a whisky is really an art — like creating a [fashion] collection is an art, as well,” he adds. The fashion designer is the first “cultural partner” for the luxury-focused Johnnie Walker Vault platform, which taps into the brand’s archive of rare whiskies in Edinburgh. Rousteing described the project as a full-circle moment, rooted in the childhood memory of spending time at his grandparents’ house. The collaboration is similarly guided by memory, reflecting Rousteing’s personal connection to the four seasons and tapping into the heritage of the whisky brand established in 1820. We Tested and Reviewed the Lancôme Lip Idôle Butterglow Hydrating Lip Balm That Shoppers Say Is Worth the Splurge

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. After Lancôme launched its Lip Idôle Squalane-12 Butterglow Hydrating Lip Balm, the buildable, lipstick-balm hybrid promptly became the talk of many a TikTok girlie and Reddit reviewers, all of whom praise the product’s pigment power that doesn’t sacrifice the deep hydration that a perfect pout so desperately needs to look flawless. The ingredient we can thank for this ideal balance is, first and foremost, squalane. It’s a skin-identical emollient — commonly found in the best hydrating serums or hand creams — that mimics the lipids naturally found in your skin barrier. Squalane helps prevent skin’s moisture loss, mitigates signs of aging, smooths the skin, and does all this without clogging pores. Lancôme’s Lip Idôle Hydrating Lip Balm is also boosted with shea butter to soften skin, jojoba oil (providing antioxidant protection and, once again, moisture), as well as ceramides (which, like squalane, hold hydration inside the skin barrier while granting firming and plumping effects). The balm’s superpowers don’t end there: It contains plenty more oils, waxes, various flower extracts, and vitamin E. While all of this sounds good on paper, the proof

Ilana Glazer Reflects on Broadway Debut ‘Good Night and Good Luck’ and Amplifying Unsung Stories

Ilana Glazer is Zooming in from her makeshift office, aka the fire escape of the Winter Garden Theatre. With her show “Good Night and Good Luck” now officially open, she’s settled into a routine of coming early to the theater on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and getting caught up on writing and other work.  “I’m writing a couple projects and we started rehearsing [‘Good Night and Good Luck’]  in February, and it was only after opening on April 3 that I could start wrapping my head around my own life again,” Glazer says. “It’s been such a gift to not be the center of the project I’m giving everything to. It’s been just helpful and interesting — I do have to catch up on my work. So the empty Winter Garden is my office.” Not being in control of a project is a rarity for Glazer, as is doing a dramatic role (not to mention Broadway — this is her debut). The writer and performer broke out with “Broad City,” which she created and starred on with Abbi Jacobson, and has gone on to write and star in “Babes,” “False Positive” and two comedy specials.  Glazer got her first taste of what doing

History of the Met Gala, How It Went From Fundraiser to ‘Fashion’s Biggest Night’: Themes, Celebrities and Iconic Moments

The Met Gala as we know it today is one of the biggest events for fashion, celebrities and pop culture alike. However, it wasn’t always the star-studded and dramatic costume-filled night it is now. It first started off as a charity event created by publicist Eleanor Lambert to raise funds for the then-newly founded Costume Institute. The event took a cultural shift when Diana Vreeland was tapped as a consultant for the Costume Institute, changing the venue of the Met Gala to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and adding gala themes. Now, Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour oversees the benefit, guest list and theme, working closely with the Met each year for the event. She also is said to even approve what designers the high-profile guests wear, and rejecting a table sponsor’s chosen guests in favor of others. Here, WWD breaks down all you need to know about the history of the Met Gala, including information about the 2025 soirée. What was the Met Gala’s initial purpose? Bob Mackie and Cher at the 1985 Met Gala. The event started off as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute, serving as an opening celebration for its annual exhibit. Jasmine Amy Rogers Brings Betty Boop to Life in ‘Boop! The Musical’ on Broadway

For “Boop! The Musical” star Jasmine Amy Rogers, Betty Boop was “always in the background of my life somewhere,” says the dynamic Broadway lead. “I always knew who she was because she’s in our pop culture,” she adds. “But I definitely didn’t know her the way I do now.” Rogers explored almost a century of Betty Boop lexicon, from the character’s catchphrases to signature poses and coquettish red-lipped pout, while working to bring the character to life onstage in “Boop! The Musical.” The ubiquitous character, who first appeared in 1930, has gone through several cultural resurgences throughout the decades. “I just fell in love with her so deeply because I think she is — at least for me, and I think for a lot of people — the embodiment of everything that a woman is capable of,” says Rogers, who originated the role during the show’s world debut in Chicago. “She believes in a strong right and wrong, and her moral compass is unwavering, and I love that about her. It encourages me to be brave in my daily life.” Jasmine Amy Rogers onstage in “Boop!” The musical opens with Betty Boop starring in her own fictionalized gray-toned world, frozen in time. Gracie Lawrence Finds Her ‘Second Home’ on Broadway in ‘Just in Time’

While the grueling schedule of performing on Broadway is intimidating to many, Gracie Lawrence is thriving in the environment. In fact, she describes the lifestyle as “so fun.” “Honestly, I kind of just enjoy being in the theater. I don’t usually leave during the day, I’ll just stay here during my dinner break, too,” Lawrence says. “Something I’m very used to from touring is living in venues. So I kind of enjoy just being in this space and considering it a second home. I have all the things I need, my little snacks, and I’ve napped on the floor in my dressing room more times than I’d like to admit.” Lawrence, who is one half of the band Lawrence alongside her brother Clyde, is starring in “Just in Time” at the Circle in the Square Theater. The jukebox musical stars Jonathan Groff as Bobby Darin; Lawrence plays singer Connie Francis. “Just in Time” is a return to the Broadway stage for Lawrence, who made her debut at the age of 12 in the show “Brighton Beach Memoirs.” Taking the stage at 28 years old now has its benefits — “for one, I’m not doing my Spanish homework during the 5-minute breaks” — but

Joe Wright on the ‘Pride & Prejudice’ 20th Anniversary and Capturing the ‘Psychologically True’ Jane Austen Story

“It’s funny. With hindsight, there were no challenges. It was all a dream. But that’s clearly not true,” Joe Wright said, reflecting on his feature film debut directing the 2005 adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride & Prejudice.” The movie and ensemble piece led by Oscar-nominated actress Keira Knightley was the first of several films for which Wright leaned into period drama. On Sunday, “Pride & Prejudice” returned to theaters for a limited run to commemorate the film’s 20th anniversary. Wright’s background prior to production of the 2005 film, however, was nearly antithetical to the marriage of romance and realism on which he’s built his career. “I’d been making, kind of, gritty British realist dramas. And, to my absolute amazement, Working Title, the producers, came to me and said, would I like to pitch on doing ‘Pride & Prejudice,'” Wright recalled of the process leading up to his appointment as director for the 2005 film iteration of Austen’s seminal novel. “I thought, what a funny choice.” Joe Wright on the set of “Pride & Prejudice” (2005). Austen wasn’t particularly front-of-mind for Wright. “I was reading Charles Bukowski and people like that at the time, William Burrows. I had never read ‘Pride & Prejudice,'” he admitted.

D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai on Redefining the War Film Genre With ‘Warfare’

Since opening last weekend, “Warfare” has drawn viewers to the theaters who are fans of the stacked cast, as well as diehards of codirector Alex Garland. But the opinions who matter most to star D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai are those of war veterans.  “The biggest thing that I know that Ray [Mendoza] was writing this for was a lot of veterans, and so the nice thing [about] our screenings is the veterans really liked it and they were very vocal about it,” Woon-A-Tai says. “That was the best opinion. Honestly, the most important opinion.” “Warfare” tells the story of a group of U.S. Navy SEALs during the Iraq War. It was written and directed jointly by Garland, of “Ex Machina” and “Civil War” fame, and Mendoza, a former Navy SEAL. The movie depicts an encounter Mendoza’s platoon had following the Battle of Ramadi in the fall of 2006 in Iraq.  Woon-A-Tai was interested in the project from the moment he finished his first read of the script.  “I noticed very quickly that this is not a traditional war film that you typically see,” the 23-year-old says. “I saw within the script that it was going to be different, that it wasn’t glamorizing anything or romanticizing anything

Costume Designer Jacqueline Durran on ‘Pride & Prejudice’ 20 Years Later: ‘It Feels Like a Different Era of Filmmaking’

“People tell me how it’s their favorite film to watch on a Sunday afternoon when it’s raining. I’m so thrilled that it’s got that place in people’s hearts,” Jacqueline Durran said, reminiscing on the lasting relevance of the 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s venerated novel “Pride & Prejudice.” The two-time Oscar-winner served as the costume designer for director Joe Wright’s feature film debut, a time when Durran was completely new to the world of cinema. “Pride & Prejudice” celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025, coinciding with Jane Austen’s 250th birthday. The film received wide critical acclaim at the time of its debut, and earned four Oscar nominations, including Durran’s first nod of nine for her costume designs. She’s since won the Best Costume Design statuette for “Anna Karenina” (2013) and “Little Women” (2020). Twenty years on, even Durran cedes to the film’s continued accessibility. Prada Acquires Versace: A New Chapter in Luxury Fashion?

The $1.4 billion acquisition of Versace marks a significant change in the industry as the Prada Group enters new territory by adding a designer label with a bold and flamboyant brand identity to its portfolio. The path leading to the deal has been complex. Capri Holdings, previously Michael Kors Holdings, initially intended to create a luxury empire through three separate brands: Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors. The company tried to sell its entire business through a piecemeal strategy after regulatory challenges and internal issues blocked a previous sale attempt by putting Versace and Jimmy Choo on the market during the last year of the previous year. Prada acquired Versace following intense negotiations during worldwide market instability, which led to its victory in the acquisition process. In this episode of “From the Newsroom,” WWD’s Evan Clark, deputy managing editor, and Luisa Zargani, bureau chief, Milan, discuss the impetus behind the deal and how it is helping to reshape the luxury market. It’s way more fluid than a normal [thing] where I call in clothes and we have a fitting. With ‘Dying for Sex,’ it was really great because I got screeners ahead of time, which that’s unusual. People don’t usually do that.” “It made [us want] to make it a little bit more on topic,” Williams added. “There was the idea that there would be some little bit of kink here and there,” Young said. “She wore an over-the-knee Chloé boot and the Proenza dress [she wore] had a leather belt.”  “This is just so classic Ralph Lauren,”
