DeepL White Paper Unveils AI’s Role in Boosting Global Retail Conversion Rates

DeepL, a global provider of specialized AI translation and writing solutions for people and businesses, recently published a white paper, titled “The executive guide to AI-enabled communication and global retail,” that showed how retailers can leverage AI to drive conversions — especially retailers expanding into the global market. However, there are hurdles to success. One of the biggest challenges for U.S. retailers, for example, is engaging non-English shoppers. But there are solutions to help. “As [retailers and brands] use GenAI to personalize content and the shopper experience, more retailers going global or already operating globally are complementing their efforts by translating and/or localizing that content using AI,” the report’s authors said. “The result is standardized communications that reinforces brand values, builds trust, and reduces the likelihood of customer confusion or frustration, and personalized content, which drives higher engagement and purchases.” Success requires localization, which goes beyond simply translating a website. Localization, according to the research paper, “is the practice of adapting products or content to local languages and cultures. Essential for retailers looking to expand their global reach, content localization makes it possible to reach consumers where they’re most comfortable: in their native language.” DeepL cited data that backs up the need for localization.

New Restaurant Brass Leans Into the Old New York Vibe at the Evelyn Hotel

Almost a year after Tusk Bar opened its doors inside The Evelyn Hotel, the bar has welcomed a dining companion into the building. Brass is officially open for business. “Tusk was always the prelude to the Brass experience,” says restaurateur Nick Hasatouris, who debuted the restaurant with his chef partners Jeremiah Stone and Fabián von Hauske this week. “Getting drinks, maybe some oysters, and then going on for a dining experience.” The menu, led by the Michelin-starred Stone and von Hauske, approached the menu through the lens of a brasserie, but wanted to make it feel more New York than French. The appetizer section includes moules frites (done with chickpea frites rather than french fries) and a crab and maitake tartlet alongside a small raw bar section; entrées include steak tartare and prawn tartare, with mains like American wagyu steak, steelhead trout, and pork shoulder à la moutarde. What was it like to photograph Melania Trump nude for a fashion shoot in the mid 1990s? Alexandre Alé de Basseville knows all about that. But the photographer was only reminded of that New York City assignment after Trump defended her nude modeling work in a video posted on “X” in promoting her upcoming memoir “Melania” from Skyhorse Publishing. EXCLUSIVE: Caroline Rush Is Stepping Down as CEO of the British Fashion Council

LONDON — After an action-packed 15 years, Caroline Rush plans to step down in June as chief executive officer of the British Fashion Council, and the search for her successor is on. The London-based Egon Zehnder is leading the search, supported by BFC chair David Pemsel, who has extended his tenure to 2025 to ensure a smooth transition. An announcement is expected Thursday. Rush joined the BFC in April 2009, and her job evolved rapidly from manager and marketer to fundraiser, lobbyist and crisis controller. Her tenure has spanned seven prime ministers, five U.K. general elections, and a slew of challenges triggered by Brexit and the pandemic. She’ll leave behind a sturdy organization, and one that’s no longer dependent on fortunes of fast fashion tycoons or high street sponsors. The BFC of today relies on a wider group of members who pay dues, individual donors, private- and public-sector partners. Ishaan Khatter Isn’t Afraid to Swim With the Sharks

Ishaan Khatter’s film career continues to take him to new places. Like Cape Cod. The Indian actor was cast in Netflix limited series “The Perfect Couple” in early 2023, and soon after found himself arriving at the East Coast destination to begin production on his first English-language project. Asked about a highlight from his time in Cape Cod, Khatter, over Zoom, glances off-camera toward his team.  “My manager, Alex, can testify I went swimming in the Cape more often than desired. It was freezing when we first got there,” he says. “Cape Cod, in case you didn’t know, is the mecca for sharks,” Khatter adds. “So it was potentially unwise to be swimming, in the off season especially. ‘Baby Reindeer’ Star Nava Mau Worked With Gigi Goode for Her History-making Emmys Night

A few weeks ago, Nava Mau was online when she saw Gigi Goode post her first collection. Mau was immediately drawn to a red wrap dress and sent a screenshot to her stylist. ‘True Detective’ Star Kali Reis on the Meaning Behind Her Emmys Look

For Sunday’s historic Emmy nomination, Kali Reis knew she had to wear purple. Reis, who starred opposite Jodie Foster in “True Detective: Night Country,” was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, making her the first Native American woman nominated for an acting Emmy. Megan Park on Her Second Feature Film ‘My Old Ass’ With Maisy Stella and Aubrey Plaza

“The Fallout” director Megan Park began working on her second feature with a vague concept and bold title: “My Old Ass.” “The title was one of the first things that I came up with,” Park says of the film, which was released in theaters Friday. “I didn’t know where the story was going to go or what was going to happen necessarily — but the title, it set the tone for me.” It’s mid-August, and the 38-year-old writer-director is in New York for press, including an outdoor screening of the film later that evening on the downtown waterfront. “My Old Ass” premiered during the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and is getting a theatrical release nine months later, just as summer begins its transition to fall.   “It feels like a really good time of year for it to come out,” says Park of the release date. Lemme is betting big on weight loss supplements.  On Monday, Kourtney Kardashian Barker’s supplement brand will launch its Lemme GLP-1 Daily, $90 or $72 with subscription, a weight management capsule formulated with three clinically studied and patented ingredients: Eriomin lemon fruit extract, Supresa saffron extract and Morosil red orange fruit extract. Rather than employing synthetic GLP-1s like the drugs on the market, Lemme’s supplement aims to naturally increase the body’s GLP-1 levels over time. Gwyneth Paltrow, Colman Domingo and More Celebrate Boucheron’s Opening in New York

After a chaotic week of running between shows and parties, the Boucheron cocktail party Tuesday evening — held in the garden at the Cooper Hewitt museum with a lullaby of a performance by Leon Bridges — felt like a much-needed balm. That is, once you actually made it up to 91st Street.  The jewelry brand was celebrating the opening of its first New York boutique, and installed an immersive exhibit in the museum called “From Paris to New York: A Cutting-edge Journey Since 1858,” which shows off the brand’s 166-year history of pieces. On Tuesday night at Indochine, everyone was talking about the butler. Luxury hospitality brand Ruffles hosted a dinner during fashion week to celebrate the release of its new campaign, “The Butler Did It,” that highlights the butler service at their properties worldwide. Each year Net-a-porter takes over a New York hot spot for its annual fashion week party. This year, the newly opened Eel Bar in the Lower East Side was the setting, an opportunity for industry insiders and friends of the retailer to catch up amid the busy show schedule. In the midst of all the New York Fashion Week action, the Toronto International Film Festival is having its fair share of major style moments. Over the weekend, Gia Coppola’s new film “The Last Showgirl” had its premiere, and is already earning rave reviews. The film stars Pamela Anderson as a longtime Las Vegas showgirl named Shelley, who is told that the show she leads will close permanently in two weeks. The scent of cigarette smoke wafting down Sixth Avenue announced that the Myth Magazine party was nearby on Saturday evening around 9:30 p.m. The venue, downtown hot spot Holiday Bar, has hosted many a fashion party since opening a few years ago — but the outdoor sidewalk terrace that served as a smoking section surely had to be what made it the venue of choice. Every so often a dog will pop up in the front row of a fashion show, usually on the lap of a very VIP guest. At Rachel Antonoff and Susan Alexandra’s joint fashion show on Friday afternoon, all guests were encouraged to bring their furry companions along to St. Ann’s Warehouse in Dumbo. And everyone in the audience was also very, very encouraged to adopt one of the dogs walking in the show, which partnered with Animal Haven and Muddy Paws Rescue. “I think my doodle would be so mad if I brought home another dog,” said Busy Philipps before the show, which was “Best of Show” themed. “I’m a huge fan of Rachel Antonoff and I’ve been a friend of hers for many years. Last season gave us viral couple Pookie and Jett, while this season we’ve already spotted Mormon tradwife TikTok power couple Nara and Lucky Blue Smith. At Cipriani Hotel in Venice, Chef Vania Ghedini Blends Tradition, Innovation

Chef Vania Ghedini admits that when she was offered to helm the Michelin-starred Oro restaurant at the luxury Cipriani Hotel in Venice flanking Massimo Bottura as culinary creative director, his name “sent shivers down my spine,” given his standing in the industry and his reputation. The opportunity was entirely unexpected, but she realized “it was one of those trains that pass by quickly and you don’t want to miss catching it. Also, Massimo is bewitching, it’s hard to say ‘no’ to him and I liked what he had in mind for Oro.” While unassuming and approachable, Ghedini has made a name for herself and is recognized as an influential and experienced chef, which led her to the Belmond property in April. The idea shared by Bottura and Ghedini was “to create a venue that would provide a unique experience, offering food from the territory, but also reflect our roots,” she says, referring to the fact that she hails from Ferrara and Bottura from Modena, both in the Emilia Romagna region. “There are many important restaurants in Venice, with different concepts behind them, but we felt we could make the difference.” Ghedini defines herself as “very direct,” and “no-frills,” traits she believes she shares with

How Do They Do It? Extreme Athletes Talk Pushing Their Limits and Setting Records

“Why?” That one-word question often pops to mind whenever a gut-wrenching, oxygen-depleting athletic feat is described or witnessed. Just mention of an extreme sport can send some seeking Google for a visual cue or two. Trying such daredevil pursuits is a whole other league. Think highlining — walking across a rope tethered between mountains or buildings, or wingsuit flying — skydiving at nearly 100 mph in a jumpsuit with wings-like folds of fabric between the arms and legs. What some consider extreme sports would be better defined as lifestyle sports or adventure sports, according to Eric Brymer, an associate professor in human sciences at Southern Cross University. “Extreme should be about self-directed independent leisure activities where a mismanaged mistake or accident would most likely result in death, e.g. solo mountaineering above the death zone, big wave surfing [on waves at least 20 feet high] or kayaking Grade 6 [rapids].” However you define “extreme sports,” not all are fast and furious. Ever since Casa Tua’s founder, Miky Grendene, opened the exclusive private club’s first location in Miami Beach 25 years ago, members have been asking him to open an outpost in New York. Grendene first opened additional locations in Aspen and Paris, and now — at long last — he has found a home for Casa Tua in New York.  “I looked at countless locations,” Grendene says earlier this summer from his house in Aspen. “For me it’s quality, not quantity. And most of the time quality and quantity don’t go together. As the Deauville American Film Festival Turns 50, Celebrity Hangout Ciro’s Gets a Makeover

As Deauville prepares to celebrate the 50th edition of the American Film Festival, it is sprucing up its famed boardwalk with the renovation of local institution Ciro’s, the seafood restaurant that has hosted everyone from Kristen Stewart to then-President Barack Obama. The French coastal resort has been a fashionable destination since the early 20th century, when Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opened her first ready-to-wear store there, effectively launching modern sportswear. In the Roaring ’20s, the seafront became a gathering place for socialites, artists and celebrities. Painters like Kees Van Dongen and Foujita were the precursors of today’s influencers, invited by local hotels in a bid to attract publicity.
