Priyanka Chopra reveals how she held her Grammys outfit together avoiding a wardrobe malfunction

Global icon Priyanka Chopra grabbed eyeballs at the recently concluded Grammys, where she made a bold statement with her outfit. The actress went for a Ralph and Russo plunging white gown for the event and was accompanied by husband Nick Jonas who performed at the ceremony along with his brothers.  While several lauded the actress for her attire, there was some criticism as well.

Priyanka Chopra reveals how she held her Grammys outfit together avoiding a wardrobe malfunction

However, what several people wondered on social media was as to how the actress kept the dress together and avoided a possible wardrobe malfunction. Days after the function in an interview with the US Weekly, the 37-year-old actress revealed how designers Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo made sure that there was no scope for a wardrobe malfunction at the awards. The actress revealed that it was a piece of tulle made of Priyanka's skin tone that held her dress together and wasn't even visible to the camera. She said that it worked as a netting which was not easily seen as it was of the colour of her skin.

Priyanka Chopra said that the designers always keep wardrobe malfunctions in mind while making an outfit for her. The actress said that she does not take fashion risks unless she is super secure about her look.

Fast & Furious 9 CONFIRMED for Eid 2020; THREE-WAY clash with Radhe and Laxmmi Bomb is ON!

Fast & Furious 9 CONFIRMED for Eid 2020; THREE-WAY clash with Radhe and Laxmmi Bomb is ON!

Bollywood Hungama in December had put up an article, informing about the mother of all clashes happening at the box office during Eid 2020. As it happens every year on this festival, a Salman Khan-starrer is already scheduled to release. Titled Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai, it co-stars Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff and is directed by Prabhudheva. While Salman usually comes solo on Eid, this time he’ll be joined by Akshay Kumar as he brings his horror comedy Laxmmi Bomb on May 22, 2020 as well. It also features Kiara Advani and this Raghava Lawrence directorial is the remake of popular Tamil film Muni 2: Kanchana. If you that was enough, then you are mistaken. In February last year, it was revealed that Fast & Furious 9 will also arrive on this day!

Fast & Furious 9 CONFIRMED for Eid 2020; THREE-WAY clash with Radhe and Laxmmi Bomb is ON!

A few hours ago, the much-awaited trailer of Fast & Furious 9 was released and has met with an excellent response. The official social media handles of Universal Pictures India too uploaded the trailer and many expected that the release date of India might be changed to avoid clash. However, they have made it clear that the action packed flick will release on May 22 worldwide, including in India!

The initial parts of Fast & Furious weren’t that big in the country, box office-wise. But things began to gradually from the fifth part, which came in 2011. Fast & Furious 7 had taken the biggest opening for a Hollywood film in 2015 then and was the first Hollywood film to cross the coveted Rs. 100 crore mark. The series is extremely popular and its lead actor Vin Diesel is recognized and loved even by non-English speaking audiences.

Fast & Furious 8, which released in 2017, couldn’t cross the Rs. 100 crore mark but still did huge business of Rs. 86.23 crore. Hence, the expectations are immense from the ninth part as well. That it releases on a festival can give it an added boost. However, with two other films clashing on the same day, trade is worried as not just audiences, but even business will get divided. A small section of trade is hopeful that at least one out of these three films will bow down and opt out of the Eid race. But as of now, the three-way-clash on Eid 2020 is very much on!

Tech Excelled, But Wall Street Still Freaked Out

Even a week of outsize performance from the tech sector couldn’t spare the stock market from a queasy drop. Last week’s highs and lows are easy, though not simple, to map out. The stage was set for a thrilling comeback of several technology giants, with surprisingly good results reported following a rather lackluster or, at best, uneven performance. Previous concerns about flagging iPhone sales vanished, as Apple reported $91.8 billion in revenue, driven by the popularity of its iPhone 11 and 11 Pro over the holidays and bolstered by devices like the Apple Watch. Apple’s wearables business grew 44 percent and has now grown into “the size of a Fortune 150 company,” said chief executive officer Tim Cook. And for the first time, the category nabbed $10 billion. The company also drew $12.7 billion in revenue from services covering iCloud, Apple Music and newer subscriptions for Apple Arcade and Apple TV+. Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives described “these results and guidance as a ‘blowout’ print that will put more high-octane fuel in the bull thesis looking ahead,” with “pent-up demand within the installed base which is now over 1.5 billion devices worldwide.” Katy Huberty of Morgan Stanley sees the iPhone’s resurgence and double-digit growth in services

REVEALED: Bhumi Pednekar has a 10-minute-long cameo in BHOOT: Part One – The Haunted Ship

In December 2019, Bollywood Hungama had put up a detailed article, explaining why Bhumi Pednekar should be hailed as a female Akshay Kumar. After all, just like the Good Newwz actor, even she has a great track record and what’s more, she then had as many as 6 films in the pipeline! She’ll end up having at least 3 releases this year and she’ll open her account in 2020 with BHOOT: Part One – The Haunted Ship. Co-starring Vicky Kaushal, this is a rare horror flick from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The teaser was out today and was has generated excitement.

REVEALED Bhumi Pednekar has a 10-minute-long cameo in BHOOT Part One – The Haunted Ship

However, it has now come to light that the talented actress doesn’t have a full-fledged role in this film. A source spills the beans, “Bhumi Pednekar is there for just 10 minutes in BHOOT: Part One – The Haunted Ship. The film mainly focuses on Vicky Kaushal’s character. Even the teaser that came out today was only about him. However, Bhumi’s cameo is a powerful one and will get appreciated by the audiences.”

A trade source explains, “It’s nice of Bhumi to do this role despite the limited screen length. She’s not someone who’ll choose a film for the heck of it. Look at all her choices till date – in each and every film, she has had a strong and indispensible part. I expect the same in BHOOT: Part One – The Haunted Ship as well. I just hope that the makers make it clear about her screen time in the trailer or during promotions.”

BHOOT: Part One – The Haunted Ship releases on February 21 and the teaser came out only today, that is, January 31. The trailer, meanwhile, will be unveiled on February 3. The trade official defends this move, “I don’t think it’s a big deal. I am sure 17-18 days are enough to spread the awareness and enhance the buzz for this film. And anyway, it won’t have multiple songs and hence doesn’t need a longer promotional window. Let’s not forget that this is Vicky Kaushal’s first film after the monstrous success Uri: The Surgical Strike. Horror films can pull youth audiences in hordes. And of course, there’s Bhumi, notwithstanding her special appearance. All these reasons will contribute to a healthy opening for BHOOT: Part One – The Haunted Ship.”

Meanwhile the inside source makes a huge claim before singing off, “Most horror films of Bollywood have been disappointing and immature. BHOOT: Part One – The Haunted Ship will be an exception. Wait and watch!”

Worn Again Technologies Opens R&D Plant in England, With More to Come

LONDON — Worn Again Technologies, a polymer recycling company, has launched a research and development facility in Redcar, England. The plant is the first major step in the company’s long-term strategy to bring its technology to scale for the retail industry. “The purpose of the pilot is to continue generating data that will validate the process steps of separating and decontaminating PET polymer from textiles so that we can recapture raw materials in these textiles and get them back into circulation,” said Cyndi Rhoades, founder of Worn Again Technologies. Until now, the company has been in a pre-industrialization phase; it has taken eight years to go from laboratory to proof of concept to the industrial phase. In the meantime, they’ve caught the eye of some major fashion industry players and garnered support from the likes of H&M and Kering Group. In 2013, H&M Group invested in Worn Again Technologies while Kering has been contributing to the company’s research, and providing financial support. “This is a solution that all big brands and retailers require and need, but in terms of actual technological development, there is very little they can do because it is so far back in the supply chain,” said Rhoades. “So where we

Emma Roberts Dishes on Perfume, Acting and Books

Emma Roberts — along with Laura Harrier, Bruna Marquezine and Chloe Bennet — is fronting the new women’s fragrance Boss Alive, which launches starting in February. The actress shared with WWD her thoughts on being alive, acting and books. WWD: What does being alive mean to you? Emma Roberts: The word evokes such a feeling — and it is different for everybody. For me, I feel most alive whenever I’m traveling and get to a new city I haven’t been to, just the feeling of getting to explore and try new things. I remember the first time I went to Paris, with my best friend, and it was the most alive I ever felt. WWD: What are some things that drew you to the perfume project? E.R.: When they asked me [to be part of it] I was like: “Well, what’s the concept? What do they want me to look like?” They [said]: “We want you to look like yourself.” And that made me say: “Of course.” How many times do you get asked to do anything where they want you to be yourself? I thought that was such an amazing message to send to all women. WWD: Do any anecdotes spring to mind from

How the Catalogue Mind-set Can Empower Future Retail

As we enter a new decade, it’s easy to assume that, in the height of this digital age, traditional approaches to retail have been rendered irrelevant. But with the industry facing increasing challenges, including the mounting threat of a post-holiday “retail vortex,” there are lessons to be learned from the conventional models of yesteryear — particularly catalogue retail. We are experiencing a surge of direct-to-consumer brands and digital-native pure plays deploying catalogues to cut through the online marketing noise to engage their new-found audiences. Even Amazon is on board with the release of its second-holiday toy catalogue that linked directly to its online store through QR codes. Meanwhile, brands founded in catalogue retail are revamping their direct mail offerings for today’s consumers. Therefore, instead of discounting catalogues as relics of the past destined for the recycle bin, here are four lessons the retailers of the 2020s should take from this established marketing mindset. Build an emotional connection Direct mail is an effective method of connecting emotionally with audiences. The tactile experience of turning catalogue pages engages consumers in a way that is challenging to re-create digitally. The focus on imagery is captivating, particularly during peak trading periods like the holidays when lifestyle photos can

Rob Lowe Expands Profile Line, Talks One-Man Show and Viral Cap

Actor Rob Lowe has received many compliments over his life and career, including for his role as Chris Traeger in NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation,” but the compliments about his skin left an indelible mark and resulted in the founding of his skin-care line, Profile. Lowe launched the grooming and skin-care line in 2015 after being stopped on the street numerous times by people curious about his skin-care regiment, and also because he wanted to teach his sons — and other men — about grooming and looking their best. “What I’ve realized since I was in the business is I had people taking care of my skin even when I wasn’t. It’s part of their jobs,” Lowe said about the makeup and hair artists that he has worked with over his 40-year career in entertainment. “I’ve learned what works for me and to be able to share that with guys and come up with a line around that simplicity has been really, really fun.” Lowe recently expanded his Profile line with the launch of Profile|Cobalt, an affordable, luxury skin-care collection that includes products like a power wash for hair and body that is formulated with aloe vera, green tea extract and pro-vitamin B5,

Fears of New, Punitive U.S. Tariffs on British Goods Eclipse Brexit

LONDON — Brexit? That’s old news already. Today — the day Britain officially exits the European Union — might be a momentous moment for some, and a mournful one for others, but it’s no longer top of mind for many of Britain’s luxury manufacturers, which now have bigger problems on their hands than exporting post-Brexit. Having already swallowed a 25 percent tax imposed by the U.S. in October on British exports of merino wool, sea island cotton and cashmere knitwear as well as high-end men’s suits, producers are now dreading the arrival of even higher tariffs on exports earmarked for the U.S. Some manufacturers fear that if U.S. tariffs go as high as 100 percent — a distinct possibility — they could cripple some British businesses, or force them to cease selling in the U.S. altogether. “To say we are nervous would be an understatement,” said Douglas Fang, the owner of Pringle of Scotland, in a telephone interview from the U.S., where he is traveling for work. “There is worry in the market, in the showrooms,” he said. “We are looking at potential price increases, and having conversations with U.S. retailers that are wholly unrelated to fashion. This is very much outside our control. We’re

Macy’s Inc. to Open New Stand-alone Concept Store

It’s not all store closings at Macy’s Inc. The $25 billion department store giant will be opening a new stand-alone specialty concept in Southlake, Tex., which will include a beauty and café component, according to sources. Macy’s executives declined to confirm the project — and specific details of the concept could not be learned — but it is believed that this will be one of the initiatives revealed during the company’s investor day on Feb. 5. Rachel Shechtman, the founder of Story, which Macy’s acquired in 2018, is said to be spearheading the new format. Story, which became a retail phenom with a strategy that included a new merchandising theme about every six weeks, now has shop-in-shops in 36 Macy’s doors around the country, continuing with Shechtman’s continual stream of retail experimentation. According to sources familiar with the concept, the format will take an apothecary-based approach to beauty, with an emphasis on hero products from both established and emerging brands; it is believed there will be a wellness component that could include non-beauty items, too. An online listing of the address where the concept is believed to be located names Market at Macy’s as the tenant, and a link on Macy’s web site lists numerous

Sidharth Malhotra to star in double role in Hindi remake of Tamil murder mystery Thadam

This will be the first time Sidharth will star in a double role - a businessman and a small-time thief and gambler who is always looking to make some quick money along with his crony. The actor is currently working on his prep for the film and the makers are prepping to create two distinct looks for him. The film had plenty of moments that attracted Sidharth towards the script in addition to the double role.

Thadam, that released in March last year, is written and directed by Magizh Thirumeni and produced by Inder Kumar. The film stars Arun Vijay in a double role along with Tanya Hope, Smruthi Venkat, and Vidya Pradeep in the lead roles. The murder of a young man named Akash creates confusion among a few cops when they find out that the one accused has a look-alike. The twists and turns with an unexpected climax really make the film interesting.

Meanwhile, Sidharth Malhotra will be next starring in Shershaah as Captain Vikram Batra which is releasing on July 3, 2020.

Joe’s Jeans continues to build out its influencer arm. The denim brand has tapped jewelry designer-slash-influencer Stephanie Gottlieb for its latest collaboration. The capsule collection — Gottlieb’s first venture into denim — features four limited-edition styles with crystal embellishments. Launching Thursday, the pieces range in price from $188 to $498. The collaboration is part of a larger strategy by Joe’s to claim its stake in the influencer realm. So far, it has seen success in doing so, according to Jennifer Stender Hawkins, senior vice president of marketing and innovation at Centric Brands Inc., which manufactures and markets Joe’s. “We stepped into the collaboration space with Danielle Bernstein, which was a big success both times we [collaborated] with her,” said Hawkins. “[Influencer collaborations] have since become an important part of the company and something we will continue to do on a regular basis as they present themselves in ways that make sense for both the company and whoever we’re collaborating with — whether it’s a social, an athlete, a brand. If there’s one thing Danielle taught us, it’s that it has to feel very personal for both sides.” Joe’s Jeans x Stephanie Gottlieb  Courtesy Image Both of Joe’s Bernstein collaborations have resulted in “incredible traffic” to Joe’s

Amazon’s Prime Surge Delights Wall Street

Amazon is back in a groove, buoyed by the holiday season and an apparently surging Amazon Prime membership that the company said has grown to 150 million Prime members.   The tech giant reported on Thursday that it boosted its revenues in the fourth quarter to $87.4 billion, a 21 percent increase from the last quarter and above its projections in October. The results pleased investors, who drove its shares up 10.9 percent to $2,074.16 in aftermarket trading. In the third quarter, the company had projected to hit net sales between $80 billion and $86.5 billion. Its net income for the fourth quarter rose to $3.3 billion, while its earnings per share were $6.47.  The tech giant continues to prize its Amazon Prime membership program, having taken steps to sweeten the deal for Prime customers by introducing faster deliveries and more products. Amazon had first invested some $800 million in free one-day delivery, a feature it seems to have gone all in on since last year, and spent more on since, as it tries to bulk up Prime membership. The company plans to expand one-day shipping in 2020.   The web giant also made Amazon Fresh deliveries free for Prime Members, a service it had offered

South Asia Slowdown Dents Growth at Unilever as 2019 Profits Decline

LONDON — It hasn’t been an easy year for Unilever. In fiscal 2019, turnover at the parent of brands including Vaseline, Dove and Pond’s edged up 2 percent to 52 billion euros. Growth was hit in the fourth quarter by a slowdown in South Asia, one of Unilever’s largest markets, as well difficult trading conditions in West Africa. Unilever had warned last month that annual sales growth would fall short of projections, and that underlying sales growth for 2019 would be “slightly below” the lower end of its 3 to 5 percent, multi-year forecast. Underlying growth in the 12 months to Dec. 31 was 2.9 percent. Year-end profit took a hit, too, falling 38.4 percent to 6 billion euros due comparisons with the prior year when Unilever banked 4.3 billion euros from the disposal of its spreads business. Underlying net profit growth was 8.1 percent, boosted in part by currency gains. In its year-end results released Thursday, Unilever pointed to a “significant slowdown” in South Asia and “some market softening” in China. The consumer giant said that while parts of Latin America have been volatile, there have been signs of improvement in Brazil. “South East Asian markets maintained good growth while developed markets, in particular

Akshay Kumar – Sara Ali Khan - Dhanush to CLASH with Deepika Padukone –Siddhant Chaturvedi - Ananya Panday on Valentine’s Day 2021!

Over the years, Valentine’s Day has become a national holiday of sorts, especially for the film industry. The collections on this day go on a high, especially if the film has something that appeals the youth. In the recent past, films like Gully Boy and Gunday released on February 14 in 2014 and 2019 respectively and both the films saw excellent collections. This year will see the release of Love Aaj Kal, starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, and it also expected to fetch a flying start, one of the reasons being Valentine’s Day.

Akshay Kumar - Sara Ali Khan - Dhanush to CLASH with Deepika Padukone -Siddhant Chaturvedi - Ananya Panday on Valentine's Day 2021!

Today, it came to light that Sara Ali Khan will arrive in cinemas on Valentine’s Day 2021 as well. The film in question is Atrangi Re, co-starring Akshay Kumar and Dhanush. Directed by Aanand L Rai, this film was announced today and its first look poster was also released. Needless to say, the star cast and Anand L Rai directing the film has already enhanced the hype for Atrangi Re.

As it happens with any major festival, clashes are inevitable. Valentine’s Day is not an exception and Atrangi Re will be releasing alongside director Shakun Batra’s next, produced by Karan Johar. It also has an enviable cast, comprising of Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday. As per reports, there’ll be one more male actor which will be locked soon. The film was officially announced in December 2019 and it was the first film to grab the Valentine’s Day 2021 spot. Not much is known about this flick but Deepika in an interview revealed, “Shakun’s film is kind of in the Cocktail and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani space but also new in many ways. It belongs to a genre that we haven’t attempted in Indian cinema before.” Again, the star cast and the fact that Shakun Batra, who made the acclaimed Kapoor & Sons is helming it, has led to considerable excitement.

What’s also worth noting is that Valentine’s Day in 2021 falls on Sunday. So both films shall release on February 12. Will both the films get the Valentine’s Day advantage like its predecessors remains to be seen.

The Biel, Switzerland-based group reported net profit fell 13.7 percent and its operating result was down 11.4 percent, below market expectations. In Hong Kong, the drop in sales in the second half of 2019 was approximately 200 million Swiss francs, or $206 million at current exchange rates, Swatch Group said on Thursday. The world’s biggest watchmaker, whose brands range from affordable Swatch watches to high-end Blancpain timepieces, logged revenues of 8.24 billion Swiss francs last year, down 1.8 percent at constant exchange rates. Currency fluctuations had a negative impact of 76 million Swiss francs. Swatch Group operates more than 90 retail stores in Hong Kong, where tourism has plummeted due to more than eight months of violent anti-government protests. Excluding Hong Kong, group sales rose by 5 percent at constant exchange rates in the second half and the operating result by 6 percent, it said. “Group management expects healthy growth in 2020 in all markets in local currency, with the exception of Hong Kong,” the company said in a

As Online Sales Grow, So Does the Villainy

As online shopping soared this past holiday season, data from RiskIQ identified numerous “blacklisted” apps and URLs aimed at swindling consumers. The goal of the research is to reveal e-commerce threats and vulnerabilities, and help brands and retailers mitigate these issues. RiskIQ said it identified more than 1.8 million blacklisted URLs that contained various holiday terms during the holiday selling period. There were also 72 incidents of domain infringement “across the top 10 e-commerce sites…trying to trick e-commerce customers into clicking on malicious sites,” RiskIQ noted in its report. RiskIQ also detected more than 2,600 online credit card skimmers during the fourth quarter while also discovering more than 1,100 malicious apps. The authors of the report said there were “72 highly concerning blacklisted apps” that contained both “branded terms of the top 10 e-commerce web sites and holiday terms in the title or description.” The company said online sales rose 13 percent this past holiday with Black Friday and Cyber Monday soaring 17 and 19 percent, respectively. “And for every dollar that consumers spend shopping online, bad actors are looking to capitalize,” RiskIQ stated in their report. “Hackers capitalize by using the brand names of leading e-tailers, as well as the poor online security

H&M Names Helena Helmersson Chief Executive Officer

PARIS — H&M named Helena Helmersson its new chief executive officer, tapping a long time executive who was most recently chief operating officer. She replaces Karl-Johan Persson, who will become chairman of the board. The move comes as Stefan Persson steps down after two decades in the position.  The announcement of the leadership change followed the Swedish fast-fashion retailer’s report of a 9 percent increase in gross profit, to 33.29 billion Swedish kronor, or $3.46 billion over the fourth quarter, with the group crediting more full-priced sales as contributing to the performance. The company in December reported a 9 percent increase in sales over the fourth quarter, helped by favorable exchange rates. H&M has been overhauling operations, investing in technology and logistics and revisiting store formats.  “The H&M group’s transformation work continues to bear fruit,” said Persson, citing more full-priced sales and fewer markdowns as contributing to improved profit for the full year. Helmersson joined the company in 1997 as an economist in the buying department. She also held the roles of sustainability officer and production manager, based in Hong Kong. For the past year, she has been responsible for logistics, production and other technology-related functions as chief operating officer.

"We are bringing Shabana Azmi home", says Javed Akhtar

Good news for the Akhtar-Azmi family. Shabana Azmi who had a miraculous escape from grievous injury after a road accident on January 18, is all set to return home.

We are bringing Shabana Azmi home, says Javed Akhtar

Speaking to me on Thursday morning Javed Saab said, “Shabana is completely recovered now. She has been fully healed for some time now. But the doctors decided to keep her under observation in hospital for a few days extra and I completely agreed with them. She is now ready to return home. We are bringing her home on Friday morning.”

For Shabana the accident was a terrible brake on her busy schedule. Prior to the accident she had been shooting in Budapest. She orchestrated the entire arrangement for her husband Javed Akhtar’s week-long celebration of his 75th birthday from Budapest. Rushing back just in time for the birthday bash, Shabana met with this terrible road accident just a day after Javed Saab’s birthday.

“It could have been a lot worse. I’d say Shabana had a miraculous escape,” says Javed Saab.

Spring Couture 2020 Trend: Ramped-up Beauty

The dream quotient is meant to be high for couture fashion as well as its corresponding beauty looks. And for the spring 2020 season, many a brand delivered. For Schiaparelli, while most of the makeup looks created by Erin Parsons involved models’ skin having a glowing, natural aura, three sported faux jewels. One had the glittering stones affixed to her face, neck and chest, echoing those of the dress she would wear. Another had black and blue fake stones decorating her arms, while a third’s featured gold-colored embellishments. Over at Jean Paul Gaultier, Parsons fashioned various looks for the show. “We’re doing this wild, smoky eye in different colors — red, blue, orange, yellow,” she explained, describing one. For Viktor & Rolf, models sported fake tattoos on their bodies and faces. Some of these said “love,” “peace” or “flowers,” while others had phrases, such as “you must be the change you want to see in the world.” Hair and makeup also took fantastic turns on the runways of Guo Pei, Ulyana Sergeenko, Xuan, Maison Margiela, Yuima Nakazato and RVDK Ronald van der Kemp, among others.

Are Guest Designers the New Engine of Fashion?

If Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo had her way, Giorgio Armani would open up his archive and atelier to Dutch couturier Iris Van Herpen for a season. “That could create some extraordinary results,” mused Fargo, senior vice president of the fashion office and the director of women’s fashion and store presentation at the Manhattan retailer. “A guest designer or collaborator can bring a fresh take on the DNA of another brand. It’s like a duet: Think Amy Winehouse and Tony Bennett.” While Fargo’s fantasy pairing might never happen, a growing number of marquee designers and luxury brands are inviting guest designers for a one-time appearance — or basing creative leadership based on serial collaboration rather than permanent artistic direction. WWD has learned that Emilio Pucci, which has churned through six creative directors in the past 20 years, will now invite rotating guests to interpret its brand essence, archive and spirit, starting with French designer Christelle Kocher. Moncler is perhaps the most prominent proponent of using serial creatives. In 2018, it invited eight designers including Pierpaolo Piccioli, Craig Green and Simone Rocha to join its new Genius project, which followed having Giambattista Valli and Thom Browne design women’s and men’s runway collections, respectively, for a decade. Victoria’s Secret Flirts With Potential New Suitors

Victoria’s Secret is going on sale.  Parent company L Brands Inc. is in talks to potentially sell the struggling intimates brand, a source confirmed to WWD. A representative from L Brands said the firm “would not comment on such rumors.” But that didn’t stop the market — and L Brands stock — from moving on Wednesday. Shares of the company, which also operates the Bath & Body Works and Pink businesses, shot up 12.9 percent to $23.22, leaving L Brands with a market capitalization of $6.4 billion. That’s well below the company’s peak in November 2015, when it enjoyed a market cap of over $29 billion. Gucci Westman Joins Beauty’s Streaming Boom With New YouTube Series

Gucci Westman is now on YouTube, too. The makeup artist and founder of clean makeup brand Westman Atelier has launched a YouTube series called “Makeup and Friends,” she told WWD exclusively. The series features Westman making up the faces of celebrity clients such as Martha Stewart, Cameron Diaz, Dakota Fanning and Demi Moore, who appears in the first episode. It is meant to portray “real tutorials,” said Westman, as well as real conversations with her clients and eventually, Westman’s efforts to transition Westman Atelier into a fully refillable brand. “Video content has revolutionized the beauty industry,” said Westman. “It’s a learning curve ’cause for me, I need to be louder about the efforts we make for our products to be as clean as possible. [This series] isn’t a product push — I’m not taking that route. I want it to feel more transparent and to have a nice conversation that feels meaningful.” YouTube’s beauty vertical has been a launching pad for personalities such as James Charles, Jeffree Star, Jackie Aina and Bretman Rock. EXCLUSIVE: Emilio Pucci Switches Creative Gears

Emilio Pucci is to invite guest creatives to interpret its rich heritage, starting with Christelle Kocher, a French designer whose ready-to-wear label Koché is well-known for vibrant patchworks, prints and streetwise savvy. Revealing the new strategy exclusively to WWD, the Italian brand said it would unveil a fall collection of rtw and accessories by Kocher on Feb. 20 during Milan Fashion Week. The maison lauded her “couture know-how, streetwear attitude and youth culture energy” and forecast a “unique and joyful interpretation.” Controlled by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton for the past 20 years, Emilio Pucci has experimented with a variety of permanent designers, including Julio Espada, Christian Lacroix, Matthew Williamson, Peter Dundas and MSGM’s Massimo Giorgetti. Since Giorgetti exited in 2017, an internal team has turned out collections as LVMH executives pondered the best way forward for the Florentine house. Engaging serial collaborators rather than a full-time creative director is becoming a more common business model, pioneered by Ruffo Research in the late Nineties and adopted in recent years by larger brands such as Moncler and Tod’s. Sidney Toledano, chairman and chief executive officer of LVMH Fashion Group, said the approach will inject more creativity, which is a passion for the French group and its

HSBC’s New Digital Network Taps Fashion-Centric Businesses

While many professionals in fashion might be over trite terms such as “curated” or “edited,” the value of a fully vetted, invitation-only trade platform targeted to the industry cannot be overestimated. And that’s the basis behind Serai, a solution specialized for the business-to-business crowd that aims to simplify international trade by connecting screened manufacturers and suppliers exclusively invited by other users, or by the platform itself. Serai is a fully owned subsidiary of the HSBC Group, which naturally opens the door to thousands of “qualified” clients in the apparel sector globally, giving the network a leg up from the start with companies such as FCI Group, Envoy Textiles, Leverstyle, Esquel Group and DBL Group already using the platform. Think of it as a LinkedIn for fashion industry professionals. Here, Vivek Ramachandran, chief executive officer of Serai, talks to WWD about the mechanics of Serai, the role of technology in transparency, and why the fashion industry is ripe for change. WWD: How does Serai’s platform streamline global trade for fashion industry businesses and brands? What about it is fashion-specific? Scoop! Song being added for Alia Bhatt in RRR to justify presence

By now we all know that Alia Bhatt whose dream it was to work with S S Rajamouli, has a guest appearance in Rajamouli’s RRR. Agreed, Alia agreed to be part of this mammoth project just to work with Rajamouli. But the director is apparently suffering from guilt pangs about the scope of Alia’s role.

Scoop! Song being added for Alia Bhatt in RRR to justify presence

Apparently, Rajamouli feels Alia’s presence is unjustified by the length of her role in RRR. He has therefore decided to add a song for Alia Bhatt. Says a source close to the project, “Alia’s role is extremely decorative in RRR. Considering her superstar status in Bollywood it isn’t fair to have her in RRR just because she wanted to work with Rajamouli. The respect and admiration should be mutual. Alia does author-backed central roles like Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi in Hindi. Rajamouli has now added a whole song to Alia’s character.”

While more details of role-enhancing song are awaited, we can tell you that Alia is very excited about doing an elaborate Rajamouli-styled lavish number for RRR, since she has no songs in her other dream-director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi.

"I got Jawaani Jaaneman without an audition. Saif Ali Khan recommended me,” says Kubbra Sait

In 2018, the world was introduced to the magic of Cuckoo which was brought alive on the screen by actress Kubbra Sait. One might have not noticed her limited screen appearance in big films like Sultan and Ready. However, her persistence got her the Sacred Games and now she along with Sartaj is back for Jawaani Jaaneman. Kubbra Sait is now all set to play a character,  as she would like to put ‘ hot and pretty’ in the film being headlined by Saif Ali Khan, Tabu and debutante Alaya F. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Kubbra Sait opened up about Jawaani Jaaneman and working with Saif Ali Khan.

"I got Jawaani Jaaneman without an audition. Saif Ali Khan recommended me,” says Kubbra Sait

Kubbra and Saif Ali Khan previously worked on the web series Sacred Games, though they did not share screen in the Netflix original series. However, her performance not only impressed the audience but looks like Saif Ali Khan also took notice. Talking about landing the role of Saif's confidante in Jawaani Jaaneman, Kubbra said, "I got this without an audition. I got a narration. Much later I found out that I was recommended by Saif. So, once Saif recommends you, the excitement has died and pressure has taken place and you have pressure to perform and do work also."

From the trailer of Jawaani Jaaneman, one gets to know that Kubbra plays a hairdresser and also a friend to Saif who listens to his problems. Talking further about her character, Kubbra said, "She is a hairdresser. All of us have a hairdresser in our life. Somebody who listens to you without judgement and keeps your secret. She is one of those secret keepers without judgement.”

Kubbra Sait who has transitioned from being a host to an actor,  spoke further about playing a best friend and how there is no fear of being stereotyped now. “If you were told 20 years ago, that you got the role of a best friend, people would say that for the next 40 years you will only play the role of a best friend. Thankfully, today's best friend or even a friend has so many shades of niceness and kindness. I remember reading an interview of Waheeda Rehman ji when she said that I don't want to play a regular mother, I want to play a different mother. And I was like this is such a smart thing to say because no two mother or no two friends are the same. For me this opportunity was fun. In my head I would say I am Saif’s girlfriend."

Not only is it new for Alaya F to perform alongside Saif, but same is the case with Kubbra. Talking about how it was working with Saif, Kubbra said, "He is awesome. He doesn't take himself too seriously. He makes it incredibly easy for people to work with him. But I think what stood out for me the most is that he is so collaborative on a script that before a scene you sit together and run your lines together and you are questioning till the last minute 'do I need to do this or say this'. And you put everything together. He is not the kind of person who says, ‘yaar mera do line nahi hai.  Mereko aur line do.’ None of that. And then in addition to all of that, his skill is very evident. Say like he takes 10 takes and he will know which take will make to the edit and that is the skills that will only come with experience. He knows exactly which will make it to the edit table and that is what blew my mind. To see him as a performer, as a person is outstanding."

Talking about Jawaani Jaaneman, Kubbra said, “There are films that have content and driven by content and you watch it to have something shipped inside you. And then you got a genre of film where everybody says leave your brain at home and to not question the film. Rarely do you get a film that does both. For me a Dil Chahta Hai is that kind of a contemporary film where you can have a lot of fun and yet it leaves something with you and ships something inside you. For me, Jawaani Jaaneman is also one of those happy go lucky film for which you don't need to leave your brains at home. Bring your brain with you and you will still enjoy the film and I think that is what is special about it.”

Jawaani Jaaneman is scheduled to hit the screens on January 31.
