Nodaleto Parodies Netflix With Influencer-led Web Series

Netflix has emerged as one of the big winners of the coronavirus pandemic. Now fledgling French shoe brand Nodaleto is ready to launch its own version of the streaming service with a tongue-in-cheek web series inspired by the classic teen comedy “Mean Girls.” Call it a sign of the times: the idea for the parody site, Nodflix, hatched before France and other European countries went into lockdown as COVID-19 swept the planet. Nodaleto founder Julia Toledano and Olivier Leone, the creative director, tapped influencers Camille Charrière, Leaf Greener and Louise Follain to join its team of “Nodalegirls,” who are shown on a group phone call discussing what appears to be a steamy encounter — though the final shot reveals the object of their affection is not a man, but the brand’s Bulla Jones shoe. “My inspiration has always been my entourage,” said Toledano, revealing that the short film was shot in her Paris apartment days before France went into lockdown on March 17. A fourth participant, Spanish influencer Gala González, dropped out at the last minute after being laid low with flu-like symptoms, although it turned out it wasn’t COVID-19. Leone said the campaign was in tune with Nodaleto’s fashion-forward aesthetic steeped in pop

Lacoste’s Polo Merci Launches Today

Louise Trotter, creative director for Lacoste, has designed an exclusive limited-edition polo called “L.12.12 Polo Merci.” The polo shows the brand’s commitment to the nonprofits and their volunteers working to help people in need during the coronavirus pandemic. The shirt has an embroidered heart around the iconic crocodile emblem as a way to say “thank you” to those on the front lines. It is also a message of gratitude to the volunteers in the Lacoste factories who worked on the production of masks. Since March, Lacoste has made more than 200,000 fabric masks in its factories in France and Argentina, where almost all have been distributed to local authorities and stakeholders. “The Polo Merci is in line with the brand’s continued commitment in this unprecedented health crisis. This solidarity action illustrates how fashion can, at its own level, act in solidarity to serve people,” said Thierry Guibert, chief executive officer of Lacoste. In the U.S., 100 percent of sales, excluding taxes, from the polo shirt will be donated to the American Red Cross to help the organization continue to deliver its mission nationwide. The ‘L.12.12 Polo Merci’ is limited to 10,000 units worldwide and is for sale in select Lacoste boutiques and on lacoste.com starting

My mom was taking care of Isaac the whole time, carrying him in a front-facing sling, but she was also holding a light reflector.” “It’s not every day I get to work so closely with my family, and this cover shoot was a true family affair, which was an amazing experience. Looting of Luxury Retail Begins in L.A. Amid George Floyd Protests

Fears among retailers and brands that protests in Los Angeles over the death of George Floyd would devolve into looting have been realized in some areas. On Saturday evening, an Alexander McQueen store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills was broken into and looted, according to live video aired by a local CBS station. Dozens of mainly young men streamed into the McQueen store after the glass of its doorway was broken. A large display window was tagged with “Make America Pay.” The store had not been boarded up like most of its neighbors had earlier in the day. Some that entered the store ran out with handfuls of merchandise and handbags. Not long before, the Gucci store on rodeo was tagged with “Eat the rich” and protestors attempted to breach its blue plywood barricade, but left when police approached. Dozens of police, many in riot gear, have been present in and around Rodeo since early afternoon as protests in L.A. began to grow and move west from the Fairfax/Grove area of L.A.. The police did not attempt to stop the looting of the McQueen store. As of 6:30 p.m., the CBS station was showing video of a Nordstrom department store within The

Rodeo Drive, Luxury Retail in L.A. Shuts Down Over Riot Fears

As thousands of demonstrators moved westward in Los Angeles, luxury retail started to board up in fear of riots. The entirety of famed luxury shopping strip Rodeo Drive was blocked to traffic by early afternoon on Saturday. The Beverly Center, a mall in West Hollywood that houses a number of luxury brands, also decided to close entirely, a representative confirmed. The center had just reopened on Friday, after L.A. officials suddenly announced earlier in the week that in-store shopping could resume. On Rodeo, the likes of Gucci, Prada, Dior and Rolex, among many others, were being hurriedly boarded up by workmen. A number of the stores had slowly started to reopen since Wednesday, allowing shoppers inside and refreshing merchandise displays. On Saturday, the same stores were locked and emptied of all merchandise. A policewoman on duty standing at a traffic barricade confirmed the police presence and the actions of the retailers on Rodeo were due to the protests in the area and the rioting Downtown the night before. On Friday night, protests had turned to looting of local jewelry stores. As for the Beverly Center, a Taubman property, a spokeswoman said the decision to close was actually led by the luxury tenants that decided

Ali Fazal stands by theatre artistes who are rendered jobless due to lockdown amid coronavirus pandemic

Despite a complete shutdown of work in the Hindi film industry, due to the presence of trade unions and the Producers' Guild, daily wage workers have been taken care of. Besides huge donations pouring in from celebrities in the film industry, the Guild mobilized for direct donations to be made in kind for the daily wagers. But what happens to theatre artists? With not a single play held in close to three months, actors and technicians who primarily work in plays are struggling to stay afloat. In an attempt to help them by initiating a dialogue about their situation, Ali Fazal is backing an initiative that intends to build a database of theatre artists and technicians who are working in the Mumbai theatre industry. Currently struggling to make ends meet, more so, due to the absence of a union or a working body, the database will record details of actors and technicians working in the circuit and could require the necessary support.

Ali Fazal stands by theatre artistes who are rendered jobless due to lockdown amid coronavirus pandemic

Ever since his college days, Ali has always had a soft spot for performance arts. Upon finding out about the situation of theatre actors from his peers, Ali decided to help them out in whatever way he can. Ali is backing an independent initiative called theatre wale, which has put together a video raising awareness towards the plight of theatre actors in times of the current pandemic. The music for the video has been scored by Nishant Raja. It's written by Amitosh Nagpal, who has also conceptualized the video with Maneesh Verma.

Speaking about it, Ali says, "It was important to talk about the situation of theatre actors at a time when the lockdown has gone on for almost 8 weeks. Amitosh Nagpal is the center point on all of this. I merely cane in from the stands. And thanks to him this reached me and hopefully many others. Most actors in the industry owe craft and learning to the theatre. And yet, there's a step child-like treatment meted out to them. It's important for us to stand up for our fraternity and stand by each other in these difficult times. Some known personalities are creating a database to help the technicians and crew members who have been rendered jobless due to the lockdown. The actors are still able to take the leap and be part of virtual performance shows. We need to make a start somewhere to help the theatre community and Theatrewale's video is a great starting point for us. I hope more actors and filmmakers join in the initiative."

Amitosh Nagpal added, "Artists love the world, and they love helping, kisi se bhi doosre ko help karne poocho toh response is ‘I’m in, I’m in, what can I do. Tell me ?’” is waqt jab unke kaam ke samne bhi andhera hai tab bhi vo sabke liye agey aa rahe hain. Lekin aise mein yeh bhi zaroori hai ki unki problems mein baaki log bhi saath khade dikhai dein."

Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal, Ranbir Kapoor - Alia Bhatt to get married in 2021

The two major celebrity weddings of 2020, Ranbir Kapoor - Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan - Natasha Dalal, have now been shifted to 2021 in the light of the current crisis.

Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal, Ranbir Kapoor - Alia Bhatt to get married in 2021

Sources in the know confirm both the developments. Apparently, the Dhawan family has taken a conscious decision to move ahead instead of letting the wedding hover in the uncertainty of 2020.

“The entire Dhawan and Dalaal families have taken this decision collectively. The Varun - Natasha wedding will now be planned afresh in 2021,” says the source.

As for Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt with Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor's tragic demise, there is no question of a wedding in the family this year.

Apparently, both Ranbir and Alia are keen to make their relationship official. But, it now seems the wedding won’t happen until the second-half of 2021.

With the coronavirus showing no signs of abating anytime in the near future, it seems no star weddings are likely to occur in 2020.

SCOOP: Deepika Padukone to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra?

While the actor to play the crazily talented singer Baiju in the love story Baiju Bawra is yet to be decided, Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is remaking  the musical classic Baiju Bawra has zeroed in on his second-favourite actress (Aishawarya Rai Bachchan being the first) to play Baiju’s love interest Gauri.

SCOOP Deepika Padukone to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra

The role was originally played by Meena Kumari in 1952’s Baiju Bawra directed by Vijay Bhatt. Sources say Bhansali feels Deepika comes closest to conveying the dignity and tragic grandeur of Meena Kumari.

“Of course, the role of Gauri would be very different now. But the essence of the character remains unchanged,” informs the source.

Also, it seems the heroine’s role in Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra would be significantly increased. Meena Kumari, in the original, didn’t have that much to do. The entire focus was on Bharat Bhushan as the commoner who usurps the legendary singer Tansen from Emperor Akbar’s durbar. Not so in Bhansali’s re-make.

A massive 16-acre set built for Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan has been dismantled

He says the set was built around a 16-acre plot in Mumbai and it is being taken down since we can expect rain on any day now. The rebuilding of this set will take close to two months, so if they begin it in September this year, the shoot can commence only in November. Luckily for the team, some indoor and outdoor portions have already been shot in Lucknow and Kolkata, so they won’t have to start from scratch.

Maidaan is being directed by Amit Sharma and it revolves around the late Abdul Sayed Rahim’s life who was considered as one of the finest football coaches. He also managed the Indian national football team from 1950 until his death in 1963.

Hearst Union Election Will Take Place in July

Hundreds of Hearst Magazines staffers will get their election eight months after revealing their goal of unionizing. Staffers will be able to vote by mail, with ballots being sent out on June 12 as most employees work from home during the coronavirus pandemic, the Hearst Magazines Union said on Instagram Friday. The deadline to send them back is July 13. This comes after Hearst executives gave the green light to staffers to vote from home. Some other media outlets have blocked their staffers from doing so. Management had initially declined to voluntarily recognize a union, which meant the National Labor Relations Board had to get involved. Hearst’s lawyers then contended the bargaining unit should be split into six smaller units and claimed that some employees were supervisors and, therefore, shouldn’t be part of the vote. The NLRB ruled that the bargaining unit shouldn’t be split up and all employees ere eligible to take part in a vote. A number of staffers at the likes of Vice Media, BuzzFeed, NBC Digital, Fortune Digital and Vox Media became unionized over the past few years during a particularly rough period of layoffs across the industry. But almost all of those organizations have cut jobs in recent months

Kering Stresses Inclusive Bent Ahead of June Pride Month

PARIS  — Signaling intentions to continue seeking to cultivate an inclusive working environment, Kering issued a statement Friday expressing support for the LGBTQIA+ community, relaying the message at the outset of Pride month. Pride month kicks off in June amid rising concern that respect for diversity could fall by the wayside in an environment of deep economic and social upheaval due to the coronavirus pandemic.  The luxury goods group’s comments indicate the topic will remain a priority for the company. “At Kering, we believe that diversity and equality are key pillars of a sustainable and creative company. We have a continued commitment to foster and maintain a supportive and inclusive work environment for all our employees around the world, including our LGBTQIA+ community,” said Béatrice Lazat, the group’s chief people officer.  Kering listed a number of measures it has taken to promote inclusivity, including its group-wide family leave policy for new parents, signing a Friends of the Court brief in the U.S. calling for civil rights for LGBTQ communities, and setting up an internal group dubbed “ALL” that focuses on raising awareness on LGBTQIA+ issues both inside the company and externally, in the U.S., Brazil, Qatar, Italy, France, the U.K. and Australia.  The luxury company also

The New York Times Magazine Wins Big at the Virtual Ellies

IS THE NYT MAGAZINE THE NEW NEW YORKER?: A raft of glossy magazine editors were due to descend on Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Steel music venue in March for the The American Society of Magazine Editors’ National Magazine Awards — also known as The Ellies in a nod to its elephant-shaped award. But like most events, it was canceled due to the coronavirus and was held virtually Thursday evening. So instead of dusting off their best frocks and suits, presenters including Wired’s Nicholas Thompson and Refinery29’s Christene Barberich dusted their bookshelves and picked their prettiest plants for a cameo in their pre-recorded videos. Some even jazzed it up with a garden appearance, while another presenter sat in his car and Cosmopolitan’s Jessica Pels sipped whiskey in her living room. But while the presenters got to show off their Manhattan apartments, Brooklyn brownstones and Hamptons abodes, the majority of winners did not get their moment in the spotlight — apart from a robotic voice calling out their name — due to the event having been pre-recorded. The result of hardly any acceptance speeches and obligatory thanking their overlords kept the event to just under 90 minutes — half the usual time of an awards show. The

Ladder shares our vision to support athlete development, seen with Ladder’s proven supplement formulas and with Unknwn’s open resources of weekly workout events for our local community.” James and his trainer Mike Mancias explored advanced nutrition after James experienced cramps in the first gain of the 2014 NBA Finals. After revamping his workout regimen and nutrition, they were inspired to start their own supplement brand and consulted with Schwarzenegger, who has knowledge and experience in the sports nutrition industry. “For Ladder, we’re always looking for ways to connect with

Advertising board pulls up ads featuring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan for misleading claims

Several ad campaigns featuring A-list actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan has come under the scanner of the advertising industry’s self-regulatory body ASCI(Advertising Standards Council of India) for suspected and misleading claims. The ASCI has found that the brands could not prove that the celebrities have done due diligence prior to endorsing the product.

Advertising board pulls up ads featuring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan for misleading claims

According to ASCI, Amitabh Bachchan's ad for Step App was found to be promoting gamified school education by promising them prize money of Rs 5,000-Rs 1 crore and it was not clear how this becomes a "scholarship". The officials stated that the brand could not establish how the scholarship offered was larger than its rivals.

Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor endorsed Indira IVF Hospital during a movie co-promotion that made the unsubstantiated claim of being the country's largest and most successful IVF and fertility chain. Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan’s endorsement for Jolly Tulsi 51 Drops was found to have made an unsubstantiated claim of saving or protecting from diseases.

According to the ASCI website, during the month of February 2020, ASCI investigated complaints against 279 advertisements, of which 101 advertisements were promptly withdrawn by the advertisers on receipt of communication from ASCI. The independent Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of ASCI evaluated the remaining 178 advertisements, of which complaints against 171 advertisements were upheld.

September Issues Will Be Exactly What They Say on the Cover This Year

In the world of glossy fashion magazines, September is actually August, but this year the September issues will do just what they say on the cover. Some publishers are pushing back the release dates of their most crucial issues of the year from August to September, allowing more time for ads and samples to roll in. It will also give editors additional time to shoot models and celebrities, a task that has been difficult to carry out during lockdown. “Our September issues will come out in September — something I’ve wanted to do for years,” said Carol Smith, the publisher of Hearst’s Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and Elle. For Marie Claire, that means Sept. 1 and for Elle and Bazaar, Sept. 8. Subscriber and digital issues tend to arrive a few days earlier. Usually the newsstand September issues are released in mid- to late August. “When we started talking to Italy [in mid-May] only a handful [of brands] had shot their campaigns….so on that side giving them more time to create their ads for sure, but on the edit side giving our editors more time to get in their samples,” Smith added. With many factories, warehouses and offices around the world closed for the
