Is Shah Rukh Khan really doing Kill Bill? Here is the truth

Is Shah Rukh Khan really doing Kill Bill? Here is the truth
Ever Since Shah Rukh Khan decided to take a sabbatical-- that's what all smart professionals do when they hit level Zero -- there have been rumours of the King Khan being in this or the other project. The last project one heard Shah Rukh being reportedly associated with was Ali Abbas Zafar's next. Though the actor denied the reports the fact is Shah Rukh and Ali Abbas are really looking at coming together for a project, though nothing has been finalized yet. Is Shah Rukh Khan really doing Kill Bill Here is the truth The latest reports suggest that Shah Rukh Khan is doing Hindi remake of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill where, the reports go on to suggest, Shah Rukh will play the villain Bill. However sources close to the Khan seem highly amused by the rumours. Says a source, "Kill Bill? Really?! First of all that is completely the female hero's film. So unless the makers plan to turn Uma Thurman's character into a male, there is no way Shah Rukh will touch this film even with a bargepole. He is certainly not playing the villain in any film at the moment. Shah Rukh was done with villainy at the outset of his career with his villainous trilogy in Darr, Baazigar and Anjaam". Most Bollywood superstars are now saying no to negative roles for the sake of political correctness. Incidentally Anurag Kashyap also wanted to do Kill Bill with Radhika Apte playing Uma Thurman's role.

Salman Khan’s Eid release Radhe is very much ON and is a remake of This KOREAN flick!

Salman Khan’s Eid release Radhe is very much ON and is a remake of This KOREAN flick!
By now, it’s a given that superstar Salman Khan will be arriving on Eid 2020 with a smashing film. However, there have been various speculations regarding the name of the film, its plot, director etc. Initially, reports claimed that Salman Khan have greenlit sequel of Wanted or No Entry. But that turned out to be false. It then came to light that Prabhudheva, who is also handling Salman’s immediate release Dabangg 3, will be helming a film, titled Radhe. Salman Khan’s Eid release Radhe is very much ON and is a remake of This KOREAN flick! A recent report however claimed that Radhe won’t be made after the project fell apart last week due to some unknown reason. But a source close to the project confirms that Radhe is very much on track and that Salman and his team is already working on this flick. The source says, “Radhe is Salman Khan’s Eid 2020 release and it has not been shelved or stalled for any reason whatsoever. The film is in the writing stages and a little bit of pre-production is also underway.” That Radhe is a remake of a Korean film is known but contrary to reports, it is not a remake of Veteran. The source reveals, “Radhe is a remake of a Korean film called The Outlaws. Salman Khan will play a cop in this film. Currently, the writers are trying their best to Indianize the story well and also to lessen the violent and sexual content, which is there in abundance in the original script. It’s taking a lot of time but the team is working day and night to get the script ready. Even Salim Khan saab is giving inputs. Prabhudheva is busy with Dabangg 3’s last schedule and post-production but he’ll soon get thoroughly involved with Radhe so that it can make it to cinemas in the month of May.” This update will surely be heartening for Salman Khan fans who have been left worried when reports emerged that Radhe is not happening and that Salman Khan is looking for another script. The source explains, “There’s no time now to look for a new script and begin work on it. We have to be ready with a film by May 22, 2020 come what may. And that film is Radhe.” When asked why Salman Khan denied that the name of his next film is Radhe, the source quips, “You know him – woh dil mein aate hai, samajh mein nahi! Maybe, they are planning to spell the film differently but from what we understand, Radhe is the next Salman Khan movie after Dabangg 3,” the source signs off. The Outlaws released in 2017 and stars Ma Dong-seok, Yoon Kye-sang and Jo Jae-yoon. Directed by Kang Yoon-sung, this crime action drama is based on a real incident and tells the story of Seoul detective who attempts to keep pace while tackling two warring gangs in the neighbourhood. Coach and Michael B. Jordan Debut First Collection

Coach launches today its first collaboration collection with men’s wear ambassador Michael B. Jordan. The partnership that was first revealed one year ago in September culminates with this collection inspired by Jordan’s influences, highlighting unique voices and anime, more specifically “Naruto,” the Japanese manga that was first published in 1997 and first adapted to anime in 2002. “I wanted to use something personal to me,” said Jordan about the collection inspiration. “Incorporating Naruto into the collection felt really authentic since it meant so much to me growing up and still does. It’s not often that I get to blend business with personal and it’s a rare coincidence when those two worlds meet up.” Naruto Uzumaki, the series’ titular character, is a young, optimistic ninja who realizes his potential despite rejection and tribulation. Symbols, motifs and attire from the series are prevalent in the unisex collection like the signature eye that was reworked with the luxury house’s Retro C graphic, the hidden leaf embroidered on an MA-1 jacket with removable sleeves and the cloud print that is “a signature symbol of the Akatsuki, which is like this mercenary kind of group that are the bad guys in the show,” said Jordan. Losing Hong Kong Retail Could Be Devastating to Global Luxury Brands

Hong Kong retail has long been seen by the U.S. and foreign retailers and brands as a stepping stone to China’s market, with its large regular influx of Chinese tourists and close proximity to Macau. Now, as the territory’s anti-China protests intensify and go into their fourth consecutive month, some analysts are beginning to consider the unthinkable — a scenario in which Hong Kong’s role in global retail becomes significantly diminished. Here, I’ll explore Hong Kong’s role as a global retail center and what retailers could do in the event of a collapse in retail sales there. Why Hong Kong Retail Matters Hong Kong retail matters because it’s one of the world’s most iconic luxury retail centers. As one of the world’s top financial centers, Hong Kong is littered with Chanel and Dior stores, and there is no shortage of impeccably well-dressed bankers strutting the streets. The city is estimated to contribute 5 to 10 percent of the world’s luxury sales. Hong Kong was Tiffany & Co.’s fourth-largest market, after the U.S., Japan and mainland China. The iconic American jewelry chain operates 10 stores in the city. A magnet for luxury retail: Hong Kong attracts luxury retailers from the U.S. and around the world due to

Forever 21 Falls, a Fast-fashion Bankruptcy

Forever 21’s bankruptcy crystalizes the end of a retail age — one that was characterized by an ever-expanding brick-and-mortar presence and ever-lower prices. The fast-fashion company limped into bankruptcy late Sunday with too many stores that were too big, not enough of an e-commerce business and an international expansion that stretched its quick-turn supply chain to the limit. Rather than embracing today’s main themes in retail — where sustainability, a smaller footprint, an emphasis on experience and strong brick-and-click connections rule — the L.A.-based company jumped at real estate opportunities in a rapidly shifting market, doubling down on old-world retail just as the consumer took a hard turn. Now the retailer, which at its peak employed 43,000 people and logged $4.1 billion in annual sales and has long been known for its legal battles, plans to trim down and grow its web business — hoping to keep a family dream alive and adding a second chapter to a 35-year-old company that, for a time at least, successfully marketed itself as a kind of fountain of youth. “Forever 21 is a story about family and the ‘American Dream,’” said Jonathan Goulding, the retailer’s chief restructuring officer, in court filings. “In an age when retail, as

Fashion Is Smitten With Beauty Executives: Here’s Why

Take a seasoned beauty executive, add some retail experience and a scoop of creative management know-how and — voilà — the fashion executive of tomorrow. It’s a recipe that’s become increasingly popular as a host of fashion and luxury firms, led by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, speed up their recruitment from the L’Oréals and P&Gs of the world, attracted by the formidable marketing, digital, brand and consumer engagement skills baked in there. Over the summer, Pierre-Emmanuel Angeloglou became the latest to cross over, exiting his position as global brand president of L’Oréal Paris to become director of strategic missions for fashion and leather goods at Louis Vuitton. According to sources, he is learning the retail and product ropes at Vuitton’s store network in Scandinavia. “Fashion houses need fresh perspectives,” said Béatrice Ballini, managing director at search firm Russell Reynolds. “Consumers demand that brands engage with a wider audience rather than portray themselves as purely aspirational. Executives who have worked in consumer-facing industries such as beauty are used to wider audiences.” Headhunters agreed that fashion firms covet the expertise beauty executives accrue, especially as all things digital roil the industry and as fashion brands play catch-up to be more consumer-centric and create emotional bonds

EXCLUSIVE: Rei Kawakubo Shakes Up Beauty Retailing at New Paris Outpost

PARIS — “I want to find the equivalents of Simone Rocha and Craig Green in the beauty business.” Name-checking two of London’s most singular, uncompromising fashion talents, that’s how Adrian Joffe summed up the ethos of the new Dover Street Parfums Market, where he and his wife Rei Kawakubo shunned pretty much every cliché of fragrance selling in their latest Paris project, which opens Wednesday in the Marais district. “Not a normal beauty counter,” Joffe quipped during an exclusive walk-through on Sunday with WWD, noting the absence of glass cases, advertising collateral, back walls, logos — and gifts with purchase. “It’s a forest of pillars.” Indeed, Kawakubo conceived an array of striking columnar, floor-to-ceiling display units in a range of silvery and white materials, including tiles, stucco, galvanized steel and sparkly silver lacquer. A lumpy totem covered in a patchwork of knitted squares by textile artist Magda Sayeg anchors the stairwell, beckoning shoppers downstairs to yet more pillars, which house a mix of mass, niche and super niche brands in fragrance mainly, but also skin care, hair care, makeup, grooming and wellness. “I think it’s more interesting for the customer to make architecture that requires them to think and allows them to discover things

Arjun Kapoor reveals why he didn't act in Kabir Singh

Arjun Kapoor reveals why he didn't act in Kabir Singh
For Shahid Kapoor, his last release Kabir Singh was THE film that brought an end to his drought of hits. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and a Hindi remake of his Telugu hit Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh became a super success at the box office. However, not everyone would know that the first choice for Kabir Singh's character was not Shahid but Arjun Kapoor. It began when  when producers Ashwin Varde and Murad Khetani, who also produced Arjun's Mubarakan, bought the rights for Arjun Reddy's Hindi remake. While they had Arjun in mind, Sandeep had met Shahid and promised him the film. Since Sandeep had to direct the Hindi version as well, they chose to go ahead with his choice. In a recent interview, Arjun opened up saying he wanted to respect Sandeep's choice and didn't want to be a troublemaker for the producers either by getting into a war of ego. Adding that only Sandeep could have churned out Kabir Singh as perfectly as he did, Arjun also heaped praises on Shahid, calling him a fantastic actor! On the work front, Arjun will be next seen in Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat. He's also working on Dibakar Banerjee's Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. War to SURPASS Bharat and emerge as the BIGGEST Hindi opener of 2019, feels trade!

War to SURPASS Bharat and emerge as the BIGGEST Hindi opener of 2019, feels trade!
The trade and industry is quite upbeat, thanks to the release of the Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff starrer War in a few days. That these two dashing and extremely popular actors have come together had made War a film to watch out for, since the announcement stage itself. The teaser and trailer further upped the hype and so did the songs. It releases on Wednesday October 2, a national holiday on account of Gandhi Jayanti. 2019 still have a few more biggies to release but none of them arrive on the day of festive holiday. As a result, War has the potential to have the biggest opening day of 2019 for a Hindi film. War to SURPASS Bharat and emerge as the BIGGEST Hindi opener of 2019, feels trade! Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirms the buzz for War as he says, “The craze for War is humongous, majorly because of Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff coming together. Secondly, it’s an action film and thirdly, the timing is very apt. It releases on Wednesday October 2, a five-day weekend. The trailer too indicates that it’s a full-on, commercial film.” Girish Johar, film trade and business analyst, agrees, “The excitement levels and buzz are huge. Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff coming together is a dream cast, not only for the makers but even for the audiences. And both are featuring in an action film and hence it’s like a never-before-experience of sorts.” Raj Bansal, the owner of Entertainment Paradise in Jaipur, admits, “The excitement is zabardast, mind-blowing! There’s huge excitement amongst audiences, single-screen exhibitors, multiplex exhibitors etc; basically, everyone!” Trade expert Komal Nahta calls the buzz for War ‘phenomenal’. Salman Khan’s Eid release, Bharat, had a record opening of Rs. 42.30 crore this year for a Hindi film. The trade experts are confident that War will go past this figure of Bharat. “It will open bigger than Bharat and emerge as the biggest opening day grosser of Bollywood in 2019," feels Harveen Singh, distributor from Rajasthan. Trade analyst Atul Mohan also predicts, “It has chances of surpassing Bharat”. Komal Nahta too agrees as he opines, “The first day figures are going to be more than Rs. 40 crore and it’ll be more than Bharat’s opening day.” “Yes, it has all the chances to be the biggest opener of 2019 for sure,” exults Girish Johar and adds, “Ideally, we would want War to go beyond even the Hollywood blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, which is the biggest opener of the year and all time at Rs. 53.10 crore. And it can happen as it’s one of the biggest combinations in terms of star cast, coupled with the holiday factor.” Raj Bansal predicts, “We are hoping for an opening over Rs. 48 crore. It could be even Rs. 50 crore plus.” Taran Adarsh however states, “Ideally, War should compete with Thugs Of Hindostan’s first number, which stands at Rs. 52.25 crore.” Besides War, there’s also Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy that will try its luck at the box office. Starring Chiranjeevi, Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi, Amitabh Bachchan, Jagapathi Babu, Tamannaah Bhatia and Nayanthara, the film’s dubbed Hindi version is backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and they got lucky with the Kannada dubbed flick KGF last year. Most trade experts believe Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’s Hindi version can co-exist and fare decently. Taran Adarsh says, “In the South, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy will be a rage. In North, it also has chances. The film has industry from practically every industry. It’s an ensemble film and hence, is expected to fetch a big start.” Komal Nahta says, “Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy will of course score in South India where it’ll give a tough fight to War. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy will be the ‘War of South India’!. But in the rest of India, it’ll have to contend with the opposition from War. Having said that, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy will still take a decent opening because the trailers are superb.” War to SURPASS Bharat and emerge as the BIGGEST Hindi opener of 2019, feels trade! Girish Johar agrees that this Southern biggie has a chance but War will dominate. He says, “Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is looking quite good but specifically for the Hindi markets, it’s obvious that War would be the first option.” Harveen Singh however says, “I don’t think Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is that big a competition for War in the North. In the South, it’s huge but in the Northern belt, it won’t have much of an impact”. He also predicts, “Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy will get an opening of below Rs. 5 crore.” Raj Bansal on the same lines states, “There’s hardly any buzz for Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy in this side, not even for Hindi version. No one knows the history of this freedom fighter. Such films don’t do very well in the North, except for a Baahubali.” Atul Mohan however refuses to write off the potential of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. He justifies, “Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani are quite smart. They must be confident of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and hence are taking the risk of clashing it with a film like War.” And lastly, the much-talked about Hollywood flick Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix, also hits screens on October 2. The film has opened in film festivals with unanimous praise. Girish Johar feels this film too might excel, “Joker is a very upmarket Hollywood film which will have its fair share of audiences in the top metro city multiplexes. It has fantastic pre-release reports from Overseas.” Atul Mohan tells, “Joker seems like a very dark film and only for niche audiences but its reviews are very encouraging. It’ll get very limited release and they (Warner Bros) must be mentally prepared that they are coming in a week which will be dominated by two other big films. Maybe they must have planned it that way and must have avoided going all-out, like these studios usually do for mainstream, Hollywood films.” Harveen Singh positions the Hollywood dark film above Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy on the buzz scale. He says, “Joker has a buzz among Hollywood audiences, especially those who are fans of the character. I feel in West and Northern belt, Joker is a bigger opposition than Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy for War!” Raj Bansal however is ruthless as he makes it clear that “Releasing Joker on October 2 is the biggest mistake of Warner Bros. It will not work at all”. Komal Nahta too admits, “Joker doesn’t really stand much of a chance.” The trade and industry are divided over Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Joker but one thing is for sure. War seems like a winner and is expected to fetch a flying start. If content is also appealing and reports positive, then sky is the limit for this flick! Ursa Major Raises Capital to Fund ‘Everyday Explorer’ Beauty Expansion

Ursa Major, a line of non-gendered, natural, un-fussy, skin-care products, has raised $5 million to fund its next stage of growth. The Waterbury, Vt.-based company was founded by Emily Doyle and Oliver Sweatman in 2011. The couple had worked in the beauty industry in New York and bonded over the shared desire to move to Vermont, which ultimately led to the concept behind Ursa Major. “We kind of bonded over this idea of moving north to Vermont to simplify, get closer to the outdoors and start a new business,” Sweatman said. “We were having a hard time finding natural products that felt elevated and effective and also that were truly clean,” he noted. So, the couple founded Ursa Major with the idea to have a tight skin-care range for people like themselves, calling the core customer the “everyday explorer.” The group has an escape-the-city mentality, and about 90 percent of the brand’s customers live in urban environments. “They’re sort of on their path to finding their North Star in a way, in terms of living and working hard in the city in their 20s and 30s, and doing that balance thing, where you’re trying to figure out what you’re good at, what your career

Field Notes: Nature’s Candy

Nature gives us everything for free, right? That’s why sustainable jewelry companies such as Melissa Joy Manning, a California-based brand that practices a zero-waste design process, incorporates recycled metals, sustainably sourced stones and handcrafted jewelry in her Green-certified studio in Los Angeles, “seeks to redefine what ‘precious’ means.” Manning, founder of Melissa Joy Manning, told WWD, “Our first commitment was to 100 percent recycled metal. Then we pursued our studio’s green certification. Our journey into sustainability has never stopped — we are zero waste, we carbon offset every box we ship and we use responsibly sourced stones whenever they exist. We now even offer company bicycle repair kits to alternative commuters! In pushing people’s perceptions of ‘precious,’ we have also led the way for the industry to be cleaner and more responsible. I actively share my resources and mentor many designers who want to improve — this is isn’t about me or my work, it’s about all of us and our planet. I passionately believe that It’s only in cumulative change that we will make a difference.” And bio-based fabrics — or materials made from nature’s renewable biological resources — might be the next big thing in sustainable textiles. EXCLUSIVE: How Salman Khan’s RADHE directed by Prabhu Dheva almost happened but DIDN’T!

EXCLUSIVE: How Salman Khan’s RADHE directed by Prabhu Dheva almost happened but DIDN’T!
Probably the biggest speculation today is the announcement of Salman Khan’s next movie on Eid 2020 and the last few week has been fuelled with the superstar’s denying that his movie was called Radhe. We can tell you now that Radhe was all but finalised (including the script) till just a week ago but things apparently, fell apart and that movie is not happening now. EXCLUSIVE: How Salman Khan’s RADHE directed by Prabhu Dheva almost happened but DIDN’T! Bollywood Hungama was the first to tell you that the Salman Khan was reuniting with his Bharat producers, Atul Agnihotri and Nikhil Namit for a hard-core masala entertainer – the exception being that it would also be produced by Salman Khan Productions. There were also reports that the movie was titled Radhe but while admitting that his Eid 2020 release would be directed by his Dabangg 3 director, Prabhu Dheva, he had denied that the movie was called Radhe. Says a trade source, “Recently, when asked about a movie called Radhe, releasing on Eid, Salman had denied it, adding that Prabhu Dheva would direct it. But buzz is that Radhe was almost happening but for various reasons didn’t. After Inshallah got postponed indefinitely, Salman was searching for a script. He got two – one a Korean remake and the other a masala entertainer. One thing was certain – whichever was finalised, the film would be directed by Prabhu Dheva. Salman is extremely impressed with the director’s work in Dabangg 3, his massy connect and the fact that everything is on schedule. The massy entertainer was finalised and titled Radhe because in both his movies (Tere Naam and Wanted) where he is called Radhe, they have turned out to be blockbusters.” The source adds that even the poster for Radhe had been designed and kept ready. “Atul Agnihotri, Nikhil Namit and Salman were ready with the announcement but something happened last week and the project fall apart. While the buzz is that they discovered just before the announcement that the story was similar to another movie and the title is with someone else – only a few (including Salman) know what the truth is. The story was based in the heartlands of North India and the final draft (with Salman’s inputs) was complete with rumours of the star playing a double role. Salman had planned to announce the movie, after he began shooting for it.” Now the hunt for a fresh script is on again. The source adds, “Salman won’t leave Eid 2020. His fans expect it and it’s a box-office bonanza for everybody around. No other star except Salman enjoys that kind of BO success on Eid so it’s natural that his release comes on that day. This project is very important to Salman and he is taking keen interest himself in every department. There is another script that they are looking at. The movie will definitely be a musical entertainer with great action and a love story for both the multiplex audience and single-screens like the Dabangg franchise.” Also Read: EXCLUSIVE: Salman Khan starrer Radhe to release on Eid 2020; EXCITING details inside!

Next Phase for Hill City: Let’s Get Physical

Gap Inc. is taking Hill City “out from behind an iPhone screen” and into the brick-and-mortar realm. That’s the word from Noah Palmer, general manager of Hill Street, discussing what lies ahead for the fledgling Gap Inc. men’s active brand. Hill Street isn’t ready to open bona fide retail stores. Yet the team is cautiously setting the groundwork for a possible rollout one day with a string of strategies launching this season to raise the brand profile and the distribution. Among the plans: wholesaling the collection at specialty retailers and on third-party web sites; opening a pop-up shop in the heart of San Francisco in mid- or late October, and selling Hill Street inside the Athleta sister division of Gap Inc. Next week, Hill Street hits the road with a mobile truck selling and spreading the word about the Hill Street collection. “We are definitely moving into a second phase of the business, but we are not in a position of pouring gasoline on it,” Palmer told WWD in an exclusive interview. “We are still really experimenting, building momentum, gaining traction and learning. But we know so much more today than we did a year ago.” Hill City’s thermal light shirt jacket.  In October 2018, Gap

Barneys Bankruptcy Draws Eclectic Group of Suitors

Barneys New York gained a bit more breathing room — and found it still has enough cache to gather at least a small crowd. The bankrupt retailer received five letters of intent from parties interested enough in buying all or part of the company to put pen to paper, according to sources. There are also said to be several other would-be buyers taking a close look at the company that could potentially jump into the process. Barneys’ potential buyers are an eclectic group. Trade show veteran and Kith backer Sam Ben-Avraham is said to be one of two players to have submitted letters of intent that envision a deal to buy the company as a going concern. Authentic Brands Group is also believed to have officially signaled its interest. Among the players staying close to the process, but not believed to have submitted letters of interest, are Nordstrom Inc. and Neiman Marcus-parent Ares. Another strategic player is said to be very active in its interest. ABG has been interested in Barneys since before the retailer’s August bankruptcy and WWD previously identified Ares as a player that considered the possibility of a deal. Nordstrom declined to comment and a representative for Ben-Avraham did not

EXCLUSIVE: NYX Cosmetics’ Toni Ko Launches Bespoke Beauty Brands

NYX Cosmetics founder Toni Ko, who sold the company to L’Oréal in 2014 for a reported $500 million, is making her return to beauty with Bespoke Beauty Brands, an “incubator” partnering with influencers to launch niche beauty brands. “My life goal is to build another successful company,” said Ko, who’s based in Los Angeles. “…I came here when I was 13 years old, a first-generation immigrant.” With parents in the cosmetics industry, in retail and later working as wholesalers, Ko was immersed in the business growing up and would end up dropping out of community college in Glendale, Calif., to work for them full-time. At the age of 25, she saw a gap in the market and, after receiving a $250,000 loan from her parents, started NYX Cosmetics. Any regrets about selling the company? “No, my life motto is to not have regrets in the decisions you make,” said Ko. “I do wish I had the company for another year or maybe two. But L’Oréal is an amazing buyer for the brand. I was just in Scotland walking down a random street, and I look over and see like a four-foot display of NYX Cosmetics in a random store in Scotland. American Eagle Introduces ‘Mood’ CBD Wellness Line

American Eagle is looking to help teens and young adults combat stressors and practice self-care with the launch of Mood, the company’s new wellness and personal care product line, on Oct. 1. Teens are becoming more vocal about the stress in their lives, whether it be their grades, friendships, family life and social media. A poll from social network After School found that 45 percent of high school students feel they’re stressed “all the time” due primarily to their relationships and teachers. Pew Research Center released a survey in February that found that teens between the ages 13 and 17 believe anxiety and depression is a major problem among people their age. “Kids are definitely stressed out today between social media and doing well in school and in sports and we want kids to feel encouraged to reset and feel calm and ready to go,” said Chad Kessler, American Eagle global brand president. “We see so much research and feedback that kids feel stressed and need to relax and reenergize. CBD is an ingredient that people are seeing as a way to do that.” CBD, which is short for cannabidiol, a natural substance found in cannabis plants, is being used by adults for

Paris Hilton: Fragrance Entrepreneur and ‘Undercover Nerd’?

Paris Hilton is launching her 25th fragrance. Called Electrify, the scent is meant to capture the rush Hilton feels when she is DJing. “Electrify was inspired by nightlife, me DJing, and just being on stage and performing in front of people and that amazing feeling I get where I feel like I’m electrified,” Hilton said during a wide-ranging business interview at her Manhattan apartment. Hilton has been in the beauty industry since 2004, when she launched Paris Hilton — her first fragrance. Since then, her brand is estimated to have done $2.5 billion in fragrance sales. For context, Jennifer Lopez has done about $2 billion in fragrance sales since 2002. She has also branched out into other categories, launching a skin-care range that’s set for a store rollout in Asia, making tech investments, and opening Paris Hilton retail stores in the Middle East and Asia. In all, Hilton now has 19 product lines. At her New York loft — which is decorated mostly with large-scale photos of herself, plus Terry Richardson’s The Paparazzi Machine and homewares from John Derian — Hilton is in between engagements. Dryrobe’s U.S. Invasion Has Begun

Dryrobe has made its Stateside debut by popular demand.    Starting this month, the cap-like gown, with its waterproof exterior and fuzzy lining, is available in the U.S.  While the oversize robe-like jacket was originally intended to keep athletes warm while changing outdoors — (Longtime surfer Gideon Bright came up with the idea after realizing that it was uncomfortable, not to mention cold, when changing out of his wetsuit on the beach.) — these days the likes of Rob Lowe, Harry Melling, “Game of Thrones” stars and films crews around the globe have been spotted in the frock. So have athletes like Jonny Brownlee and Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds. Emilia Clarke of “Game of Thrones” on set in a Dryrobe.  Courtesy “There wasn’t a lot of options to use before Dryrobe,” Bright told WWD. “It seems crazy. But you’d use a towel to change. That was a barrier for kids, for anyone really, trying to enjoy what they’re doing.” The polyester fleece lining, multiple pockets (both inside and out) and even a waterproof cellphone pouch made the garments ideal for sports and bad weather alike. They’re also easy to slip on over other layers in a rush.  That could explain why dog walkers and urbanites in cold-weather

Love and a Baby Bump Outing at Elie Saab

BABY BUMP: It was all love and romance at Elie Saab. Perched in the front row, Olga Kurylenko said she just finished filming a series for French television channel France 2 called “Romance.” “The name speaks for itself, it’s a romance between a man and woman and so I play the woman — not the man,” she said with a smile. The series takes place in the Sixties, “beautiful times, aesthetically,” she added, noting the clothing, makeup and cars make for visually striking images. Posing for the cameras before the show, Anouchka Delon made her baby bump official, holding her hand over her tummy protectively. Alain Delon will soon welcome another grandchild. She sat next to her partner Julien Dereims, in the front row, and described their roles in an upcoming film. “Toute Ressemblance,” which means ‘all resemblance,’ in English, is directed by Michel Denisot and Dereims plays a journalist, while Delon falls in love with a much older man, a news anchor played by Franck Dubosc. Debby Ryan, meanwhile, who sat nearby, just wrapped up her latest season of her Netflix series “Insatiable” and has been filming another project that she couldn’t say much about. “It’s very strange and so I played a character

To celebrate the L’Oréal Paris x Karl Lagerfeld capsule makeup collection, the two brands held a cocktail in Paris on Friday. Black-and-white striped décor was de rigueur for the Lagerfeld brand, and a Bubble Chair nodded to its late designer. L’Oréal Paris’ global makeup director Val Garland, who had worked with Lagerfeld, was present. “We would start work at 2 and actually shoot like at about 10 or 12,” she said. “He always made us wait — for the right moment.” Chris Colls arrived at the fete with Alexandra Agoston. The photographer said he “always admired Karl, his energy, especially. His precision. What he did creatively — he was like a nonstop creative genius. I have a lot of respect for what he did.” Model Luma Grothe reminisced about Lagerfeld. “He has so many great quotes that are so touching, and really inspiring — that make me want to move — make me want to do something and be myself,” she said. “I think he was an inspiration for that. And he made women feel confident and powerful.” Other guests at the party included Liya Kebede, Soo Joo Park and Doutzen Kroes. Sutton Stracke, Beverly Hills’ Newest Housewife, Opens Sutton

Cameras were rolling this weekend at the opening of Sutton, owned by Sutton Stracke — the newest cast member of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.” “I like to say it’s a concept store,” said Stracke, catching up a night before the launch. She’s an art and couture collector, she said, and the shop is a reflection of herself, her taste and life. “I have a lot of friends who are artists and designers, and I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to work with my friends and show them off?’” Those friends include French fashion designer Alexis Mabille, who has select pieces from Paris on display. “He doesn’t really have a presence in the U.S.,” she added. There’s also August Getty, who’s offering demi-couture looks to order. “I met him in Greece two years ago and fell in love with him,” she said of Getty. Located on 636 North Almont Drive in West Hollywood, the shop features a range of rotating products, from jewelry by a local designer to furniture she’s picked up from antique stores and flea markets in New York. “We’re shining them up and making them look beautiful,” she said. There’s also art for sale, starting with pieces by Helmut Newton.

Is Jeanne Damas’ Restaurant The Most Parisian Place Ever?

BONJOUR PARIS: Cheese platters. Striped shirts. Eiffel Tower souvenirs. Artists doing live portraits, Montmartre-style. A mime with a toy baguette and beret. Guests could easily play a game of “spot the Parisian clichés” at the opening of Jeanne Damas’ first boutique for her fashion label Rouje, which she coupled with the inauguration of her first restaurant, Chez Jeanne. This was made even more fun by the fact that all women seemed to have the same look: Red lips, mussed-up hair, red floral print dress. Of course, there was a lot of smoking. Damas was looking radiant, if a little bemused at the raucous party raging within the walls of her new venture, a chic brasserie adjacent to the Rouje boutique on the Rue Bachaumont in the 2nd arrondissement. “Growing up, I would always hang out in my parents’ restaurant,” said the influencer-turned designer. “I remember being in pajamas alongside pretty well-known clients, like Johnny Hallyday and Jean Paul Gaultier, and that at the time dinners were very long, very loud and smoke-filled.” Not much has changed there – save that Gaultier had been swapped for Simon Porte Jacquemus. The designer was holding court at a long table packed with Parisian friends, laughing and talking over

Cardi B Takes Paris

IN THE BAG: Look out Paris, Cardi B is in town — and even hiding behind a pair of geeky glasses, she can’t be missed. The rapper turned out in support of Thom Browne, who designed her statement gown for the Met Gala in May, sitting in the front row at his show Sunday afternoon alongside guests including Maisie Williams and Cole Sprouse. She’s also a fan of the designer’s statement accessories, and was carrying with her the outsize black patent purse — almost big enough for a front-row seat in its own right — she had featured on her Instagram Stories hours before the show. “This is a crocodile $60,000 bag,” she was heard saying in the video. “This is great, an amazing investment. It’s just a must-have, not only because it’s huge and you can fit a lot of s—t in here, but this bag will never get old, it will never crease, it’s hard,” she continued, tapping on the high-end accessory to demonstrate.

Noomi Rapace’s Secret Weapon? Daily Ice Baths

ICE QUEEN: How do you keep up with a challenging schedule? For Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, the secret lies in ice baths. “This summer, I went from shooting in Louisiana where it was 40 degrees Celsius to filming in Iceland where it was -1,” said the “Millenium” star, speaking at the Haider Ackermann show on Saturday. “My body was like, what is going on?” On top of healthy eating and working out daily, the actress regularly submits to ice baths. “I do them everyday for my face, and as often as I can I fill a bathtub with water and ice and just jump in,” said Rapace. “I know, I sound like a crazy person.” Shooting in freezing weather was made easier by her personal connection with Iceland. “I was basically going back to my roots: Iceland is where I shot my first film when I was seven,” she continued. “It’s also the most incredible script I’ve ever been given.” “Lamb,” directed by Valdimar Johansson, is a supernatural drama in which Rapace plays an Icelandic sheep farmer in the early Forties. Kartik Aaryan joins Alia Bhatt as her love interest for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai?

Kartik Aaryan joins Alia Bhatt as her love interest for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai?
Is Sanjay Leela Bhansali considering Kartik Aaryan for a key role for his next directorial Gangubai? If the buzz in the B-town is anything to go by, this could well turn out to be a possibility. Kartik Aaryan joins Alia Bhatt as her love interest for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai? It is a known fact that after shelving of Inshallah, the filmmaker has started work on Gangubai with Alia Bhatt where she would be seen as a central protagonist. While she has the biggest part in the film, the script also includes a young male character who has an important part to play as well as Alia’s love interest. To get the right actor enact this part, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has intensified his search so that preparations are well in place before the film goes on floors. This is where Kartik Aaryan fits in. Of what we hear, the character appears at a crucial juncture of the film’s narrative and leaves a strong impression. Knowing Bhansali’s penchant for getting his characterisation and casting perfectly right, one expects the part written for Kartik to be carrying good meat as well. To add fuel to the fire, Kartik was in fact recently spotted stepping out of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office after a meeting with the filmmaker. While there is a strong buzz in the air already around the two being serious about consolidating this association, one waits to hear the formal announcement now. Considering the fact that each of the four upcoming films of Kartik has the actor as a central protagonist in a solo lead role, one waits to see if the actor would make an exception and step in for a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. L’Oréal Paris Hosts Third Fashion Show

L’Oréal Paris’ third fashion show, held Saturday evening at the majestic Paris Mint, began with a drumroll. Six-hundred guests, with Naomi Campbell, Olga Kurylenko and Louise Bourgoin sitting front row, waited for 32 of the brand’s ambassadors to make their entrances on the circular stage. Helen Mirren, Andie MacDowell and Eva Longoria were among the star-studded cast taking part in the show, which was set to original music performed by a 40-piece live orchestra. But before that began, the women shared with WWD their thoughts on sustainability. Mirren, walking for L’Oréal Paris for the second time, was scared of tripping over her dress, as was Amber Heard, a first-timer. “I’m terrified of falling down,” revealed Mirren, whose recent projects include HBO’s “Catherine the Great” and “The Good Liar.” “I’m wearing this gorgeous Giambattista Valli dress. It’s very, very floaty – lots of stuff to get tangled in and fall over.” Mirren drew parallels between runway and stage work. “It is theater,” she said. “I’m a theater girl. I want to be on stage.” Mirren loves the backstage fashion-show experience. “It’s all chaos, and yet somehow they make sense of it, and then you line up and they go ‘OK, go,’” she said. “They walk

Byredo’s Ben Gorham Celebrates Craig McDean Tie-in, Plots Cosmetics Launch

TEAM SPIRIT: Ben Gorham has always put collaboration at the core of his work and his next tie-in involves the launch of another new category for Byredo: color cosmetics. “I’m working on a cosmetics, makeup line for next year, which has been a really big, interesting project. It’s challenging in every sense of the word not being a woman and creating makeup, but there is a collaboration element, too, and when that’s revealed it will make complete sense,” Gorham said, declining to name his collaborator. During Paris Fashion Week, he was celebrating another longtime friend and collaborator, the photographer Craig McDean and his new Rizzoli book. Gorham wanted to take on the “supporting act” this time around and embark with McDean on a book signing tour, hosted at Byredo stores worldwide. The duo has already made a stop in London and after their Paris Fashion Week event — which was held on Friday evening and drew the likes of Elsa Hosk, Peter Phillips and Grace Coddington — they will move on to Montreal, New York, Milan, Seoul and Tokyo. Juno Temple Talks Pixies, Mental Health and the Power of Erotica

FAIRY TALE: Juno Temple was excited to reunite with her fellow cast for the upcoming sequel to Disney’s “Maleficent,” though it turns out that playing a pixie can be lonely work. “It was sensational, but I actually didn’t get to work with a lot of the cast,” the British actress, who stars as Thistletwit in the fantasy film, said at the Celine show on Friday. “It’s so wild, the experience of making a film like that, because the technology of creating people like me into a tiny little fairy is so far along now that you do your little individual moments without actually being in some of the scenes,” she added. In fact, Temple has yet to even see the film. “There’s a premiere coming up pretty imminently, and I’m going to see it with everybody else,” she said. The actress joined guests including Catherine Deneuve, Margaret Qualley, Carla Bruni, Miles Kane, Alex Kapranos and Blackpink singer Lisa Manoban, whose arrival caused the biggest commotion outside and inside the black tent erected in front of the gilded dome of the Invalides in Paris. Margaret Qualley and Lisa Manoban  Stephane Feugere/WWD Temple has had a busy year. She stars opposite Simon Pegg in “Lost Transmissions,” which tackles the

For Kris Jenner, Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing is “Like Family”

PROUD MAMA: A member of the Jenner family made the Balmain front row on Friday – just not the one that was expected. Kylie Jenner, who was named artistic director of makeup for Olivier Rousteing’s Balmain show, cancelled her Paris trip last minute due to illness. The beauty entrepreneur was meant to launch her collaborative makeup line with the Balmain creative director at the show. But mama stood in proudly at the Opéra Garnier, with an overexcited pack of photographers trailing in her wake. “These are a few of my intimate friends,” Kris Jenner joked to a fellow show-goer, gesturing to the jumble of flashes and shouts. She sat down next to actress Eva Longoria – who moments before gushed about the glamour of the Paris opera house, which she was visiting for the first time – before taking a moment to describe her family’s relationship with Rousteing. “Olivier is like one of my kids,” Jenner told WWD. “I feel like I’ve known him for years. We are blessed to be part of the Balmain army. He always makes us feel like family, ever since the day we met him and even still today. We love him very much.” Rousteing’s relationship with the Kardashian-Jenner clan goes
