In fact, July’s new beauty releases are downright refreshing, with launches ranging from icy-cold face masks to genius makeup application tools. Our WWD Shop editors are privy to these new releases, often conducting hands-on testing before the makeup, skin care, and hair tools officially make their way onto shelves. July’s new makeup launches offer a sweat-free, stress-free approach to summer glam. Here’s Where You Can Buy Ariana Grande’s Loewe ’60s Chic Sunglasses She Wore During the Paris 2024 Olympics

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. The 2024 Paris Olympics has unraveled a runway of head-turning fashion moments, from star-studded Opening Ceremony arrivals to A-listers lounging in the bleachers. Ariana Grande, for one, has earned gold for her sweet, 1960s-chic outfits that nod to starlets of the past. Her latest summer staple? Loewe’s space-age round sunglasses. On the second day of the Olympic Games, Grande sat in the stands for the Artistic Gymnastics Women’s Qualification with her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, wearing a Loro Piana east-west straw bag and custom white belted shift dress by Thom Browne, the designer also responsible for both actress’s very in-character Opening Ceremony ensembles. She matched her simple look with striking sunglasses from Loewe that are reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn’s costuming in “How to Steal a Million” — adding yet another Swinging Sixties reference to her portfolio of outfits inspired by the decade. On the Road With Role Model

On July 19 Role Model released his sophomore album “Kansas Anymore” and quickly followed up the event with a sold-out show at Los Angeles’ The Troubadour in West Hollywood.  The musician, born Tucker Pillsbury, has been on a steady rise since releasing his first EP in 2017 and signing with Interscope Records in 2018. His first album, “Rx,” came in 2022 and was all about falling in love. Cut to 2024 and the relationship had ended, which, thankfully for fans, resulted in a new record.  This fall he will hit the road with Gracie Abrams, but in the meantime celebrated his album’s release at The Troubadour. He documented his first time setting foot on the famed stage (which was marked with a “pre-show stretch, I suppose”), his soundcheck (“Pretending to know how to play guitar on stage now”) and a moment backstage with Lizzy McAlpine (“LOOK AT THAT WOMAN”) who is featured on the “Kansas Anymore” song “So Far Gone.” Prior to hitting the stage he listened to The War on Drugs and joked around with his band. “I love my band so much, I think it’s rare for artists to have any sort of bond with their band, but we have been through

The Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag is the brand’s latest drop for fall — and it may just give the Tabby bag a run for its money. Bella Hadid is often the source of style trends that pop up on your TikTok FYP or Instagram feed (she clocked both the Adidas Samba trend way in advance), so it makes sense that she was one of the first lucky celebs to get her hands on the Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 39. Gifted by Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers, Hadid effortlessly modeled the designer leather tote bag on two occasions in New York City last week, pairing the slouchy bag silhouette with her signature eclectic styling. Everything You Need to Know About the 2024 Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony

PARIS — If France’s recent parliamentary elections raised fears the country was veering toward the far right, organizers of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony aim to project the opposite image of the country: open, inclusive and environmentally conscious. As the International Olympic Committee seeks to reverse a decline in younger audience numbers by introducing more youth-oriented sports such as breakdancing and kiteboarding, the opening ceremony on Friday will aim also to set a Gen Z-friendly tone for the Games. “We want people to understand from the first evening that these Games are a little unusual, that they won’t look quite like previous editions, so that’s why we were bold and ambitious,” Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris 2024 Olympic Committee, told a press briefing a week before kick-off. For starters, it will mark the first time the opening ceremony will not take place in a stadium.  Instead, almost 100 boats carrying a majority of the 10,500 athletes attending the Games will travel along the Seine from the Austerlitz bridge to the Trocadero — the esplanade across from the Eiffel Tower. The 3.7-mile journey will take in landmarks such as the Île Saint Louis, Notre-Dame de Paris and the Louvre Museum, which will provide

The 8 Best Mascaras at Walmart, Tested by Editors

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Walmart is a glorious destination to source any and every household necessity — and that includes the best drugstore mascaras on the market. After all, no vanity is complete without a trusty tube that flatters the eye and delivers on daily drama. There’s a wealth of options for different lash effects among the best mascaras at Walmart, so WWD Shop editors went shopping. We tested 21 formulas to narrow down the most transformative mascaras that bring serious volume, length, and lift in just a few swipes. As a regular WWD Shop tester and beauty product reviewer, I’ve tested over 100 mascaras (yes, really) from practically every beauty retailer, including cult-favorite prestige formulas, TikTok-loved lash enhancers, and hidden gems that deserve more buzz. I’m constantly monitoring the Walmart mascara bestsellers list to see what’s hot and new, and, in particular, which mascaras have holy grail-status potential. Between my extensive mascara repertoire and my lackluster natural lashes, I’m a super picky tester, so it takes a lot of star power to get me excited about a new discovery. But after three months of

The 9 Best Setting Sprays for Every Skin Type, Tested By Editors

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. We’ve officially entered the dog days of summer, which means no beat is safe against the sweltering heat — that is, unless you have the best setting sprays on hand. A quick and simple spritz can be the difference between flawless glam and a makeup meltdown, but not all face finishers are created the same. We’ve been testing the best makeup setting sprays during New York City’s most recent heatwave to determine the top summer makeup bag secret weapons that are worth every penny. So, what does a setting spray do exactly? It’s a fine mist that deposits a quick-drying film over your face to set budge-able complexion products like foundation, cream contour, and liquid blush. It makes for a non-cakey swap for blotting powder that you can apply in between makeup steps or to refresh your look throughout the day. The best makeup setting sprays vary between mattifying and dewy finishes for different skin types, and some even offer extra features like a sticky priming grip or waterproof protection. It may seem counterproductive to flood your carefully applied creams and

Net-a-porter and Mr Porter Celebrate the Hamptons Summer Season at the Parrish Art Museum

Net-a-porter and Mr Porter know how to deliver style out east. On Wednesday night, the luxury retailer group (which offers premier delivery in the Hamptons through Labor Day) brought an intimate crowd to Watermill, N.Y., for an al fresco dinner at the Parrish Art Museum. The occasion? Summertime. Guests walked alongside the museum’s exterior and congregated in a clearing within the museum’s expansive meadow, where a vintage cocktail truck served up spicy margaritas and Hugo Spritzes. Net-a-porter interim chief executive officer and president Alison Loehnis posed with guests like Mickey Sumner and Thomas Doherty underneath a branded arch, while “SNL” star Ego Nwodim and Tinx caught up on one of the reflective benches and Rosie Assoulin chatted nearby with gallerist Hannah Traore and Jennifer Fisher. Other guests included Nacho Figueras and Delfina Blaquier, who brought along daughter Aurora Figueras, Clara McGregor, Molly Sims, Ella Hunt, Kevin and Kate Love and Joe Holder. Newly engaged Huma Abedin arrived as dusk set in and guests began finding their seats around the long table set underneath the museum’s covered terrace. “For those of you that are local, thank you for braving the traffic,” Loehnis said as dinner kicked off with a watermelon and lobster amuse bouche.

Why Manufacturers Need to Be a Part of Fashion’s Sustainability Solution

Fashion, I love you, but you are not serious people. I love “Succession.” I love the dark humor, the brutal language and the sheer audacity of business mogul Logan Roy. As I reflect on my first six weeks as chief executive officer of Cascale, I keep coming back to his quote from season four. After questionable decision-making on their part, he told his kids: “I love you, but you are not serious people.” The industry’s approach to sustainability is not working. We are already seeing brands step back from their committed science-based targets. It was also reported recently by McKinsey that two-thirds of fashion brands are lagging on meeting their decarbonization targets. Furthermore, 40 percent of these brands have actually seen an increase in emissions. These targets, set with the best of intentions, quickly fall apart when confronted by the scale and complexity of the challenge. So, it’s complicated. We know that more than 70 percent of the carbon footprint of our industry resides in manufacturing. Manufacturers work with multiple brands. Brands have their own sustainability goals, targets and pet projects, but they share factories, so it’s common for manufacturers to have multiple and even contradictory projects in flight. Brands are frustrated, manufacturers

Inside Tera Studio & Pilates Club, New York’s Invite-only New Workout

The Pilates aficionados of New York City have a new “It” class in their wheelhouse — and getting a spot on the reformer might be harder than snagging a table at Torrisi.  After teaching at Forma Pilates, the other in demand, referral-based Pilates studio in New York, 28-year-old Georgia Wood Murphy has opened Tera Studio & Pilates Club in downtown Manhattan. After an initial few months in a temporary space, Tera has officially opened its doors in its permanent studio, the address of which, just like the class spots, is invite-only.  Wood Murphy, who was born in Australia and raised outside of Dallas, got into Pilates after college while living in Houston. “I became obsessed with the movement,” she says. All the while, Wood Murphy was working for Accenture; prior to the pandemic, she’d traveled Monday through Thursday each week, as is common for young consultants, and it wasn’t until she was grounded during the pandemic that she felt herself needing a creative outlet.  She started teaching at her Houston studio before relocating to New York City, where she wanted to try teaching to meet new people. She completed the New York Pilates studio certification program and soon started teaching at Forma. Tera Studio and

EXCLUSIVE: Kristin Cavallari Releases First Uncommon James Fragrance

Kristin Cavallari is unveiling her first fragrance: Hard Feelings. “It has a really nice balance between masculine and feminine, and that’s sort of everything I’m drawn to in life,” said the TV personality and entrepreneur. “I don’t like anything too overly sweet or obviously too hard.” The unisex scent is a blend of florals and woody notes, with rose, hibiscus, incense and tobacco, along with pepper, bergamot, cedarwood, sandalwood and orcanox. “No other name could represent the perfume like Hard Feelings could,” she went on. “And Hard Feelings kind of evokes different emotions within people and makes you think of some of your own memories and things that you’ve been through. And I think with a perfume, that’s kind of what you want, is when someone smells it and hears the name, that it kind of makes them feel a certain way.” Kristin Cavallari Two years in the making, it drops on July 30 under her lifestyle brand Uncommon James. The brand expects $2 million in projected sales for the fragrance for the fiscal year. “When we started it, I didn’t realize it was going to take that long,” she said of timing. “Also, when I launched Uncommon James, that changed the landscape for me.

U Beauty’s Plasma Lip Balm Is Now Available in Two New Flirty and Flattering Tints

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. There’s a time and place for drugstore lip balms — maybe you’re in a pinch at the airport or you need a tube that you won’t fret over if it slips out of your shoulder bag. That said, a luxurious, high-powered lip treatment also belongs in every beauty lover’s stash of lip glosses, lipsticks, and lip masks. U Beauty’s Plasma Lip Compound fits the bill with a multitasking formula that’s newly available in two flattering shades for summer, and our editors put it to the test. The Plasma Lip Compound is one of U Beauty’s bestsellers, right in line with the complexion-smoothing Resurfacing Compound and the Super Intensive Face Oil. Where those two go for well over $100, the lip balm rings in at $68. Yes, that’s still comparatively pricey for a little tube of lip balm, but the Plasma Lip Compound is much more than a simple salve: The formula works as a lip plumper, a tinted lip balm, and a lip gloss all at once, with such powerful hydration that you only need to apply it a few times

Blackpink’s Lisa Named Louis Vuitton Brand Ambassador

PARIS — It’s official: Blackpink’s Lisa has joined Louis Vuitton as brand ambassador. The K-pop star set tongues wagging when she attended the French fashion house’s fall 2024 ready-to-wear show in March.  Her appearances at Paris Fashion Week have been greeted by crowds of delirious fans, but since 2020, she had been a brand ambassador for Celine, which like Vuitton is owned by luxury conglomerate LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.  She even walked in the brand’s summer 2022 show filmed in Nice, France.  The Thai performer, born Lalisa Manobal, joins Vuitton as she is solidifying her solo career after the four members of Blackpink declined to renew their individual contracts with longtime management company YG Entertainment last December. Blackpink remains with the agency for all group activities.  Manobal has formed her own management company, Lloud Co., and recently released a new single, “Rockstar,” in partnership with RCA Records.  The song debuted at number four on the Billboard Global 200 chart, becoming her third top-10 hit after her 2021 singles “Lalisa” and “Money.” The song also hit number one on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. ranking. Since its release on June 28 the video has garnered more than 120 million views on YouTube. Manobal is also set to make her

Nordstrom Just Restocked the TikTok-Viral Prada Lip Balm That Sabrina Carpenter Sold Out

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Nobody move: Prada’s viral balm is finally back in stock at Nordstrom. It’s no surprise that Prada Beauty products have earned immediate buzz, but there’s one likely reason this blue designer lip balm has quickly become the line’s hero product. At around the same time it initially sold out, it made a cameo in Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please, Please, Please” music video — and starred in a dedicated post on her TikTok page, swatches and all. The pop princess and TikTok beauty muse regularly sparks beauty trends, from her signature doll-pink blush (courtesy of Makeup by Mario and Armani Beauty) to her swoop-y curtain bangs that have inspired countless hair styling tutorials on the app. There’s always a spotlight on her makeup bag, so when the opening scene of her highly-anticipated music video showed her applying the blue Prada lip balm (which played as her sole possession fresh out the slammer) the balm was bound to sell out. In fact, it still hasn’t restocked at Sephora. @sabrinacarpenter you were so loud i love you @govballnyc @pradabeauty ♬ Please

Noma Chef René Redzepi Brings His Ingredient List to ‘Omnivore’

Noma chef René Redzepi recently found himself at Whole Foods. In the “bar” aisle of the store, he was in awe of the optionality before him: packaged in compact rectangles were snacks and meals optimized for different nutritional needs. “It’s so transformed into this little container. And I mean, it’s super practical — but it also becomes hard to even understand and be connected to a season or to the people that actually grew this for you, to a landscape,” says Redzepi, in New York as part of the press tour for his new Apple TV+ docuseries “Omnivore.” “We make, in many cases, dozens of food decisions every day. And most of those are made by a sense of routine or a sense of urgency.” “Omnivore” aims to slow things down and reconnect viewers with the source of their food, one ingredient at a time. And in an age when food is cheap, the series makes a case for valuing the systems that make what we eat possible. A still from “Omnivore.” “In my opinion, if you’re not connected to food, it’s like you’ve pulled out one of the roots of yourself from the place that you’re from,” adds Redzepi. “Most of us consume

Melania Trump Returns to the Global Stage at the RNC in Repeat Red Dior Suit: ‘The Fit Was Perfect’

Former first lady Melania Trump showed her true colors Thursday night at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, The outing was her first public appearance following Saturday’s assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump’s life, as well as her first worldwide photo-op in months. The former model turned out for the occasion, wearing a red modern version of the Christian Dior “Bar” suit. The designer ensemble is a repeat for Trump, who first wore it for a 2017 official visit with the former president to Paris to meet French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte. Her stylist Herve Pierre, said Thursday, “It’s nothing new – it’s just a repeat. But she loves that suit. She has beautiful clothes so she can repeat [looks.]” To that point, the former FLOTUS also dipped into her closet earlier this month, choosing a red Valentino dress for the July 8 GOP fundraiser that she hosted in her Trump Tower penthouse. She had first donned that designer style in April 2017 for another global photo-op – to meet President Xi Jinping of China, and his wife Peng Liyuan at Mar-a-Lago. Don’t Miss Your Chance to Save $100 off the TikTok-Loved Dyson Airstrait Hair Tool

Amazon Prime Day may be over, but there are still incredible deals to be found. One we’re especially excited about is the $100 markdown on the Dyson Airstrait hair styler — a tool that’s rarely discounted and TikTok famous. The Dyson Airstrait is one of the newest tools in the brand’s repertoire, and it holds true to the brand’s commitment to limiting heat damage. One of the most convenient aspects is that it both dries and straightens your hair in one fell swoop, meaning you can majorly streamline your tumble of hair styling tools — like blow dryers, hair dryer brushes, and straighteners — with this sleek and hair-healthy device. It accomplishes this wet-to-dry magic with airflow instead of hot plates, which leaves the hair looking silky and feeling healthy (the Airstrait is a far cry from the hair-sizzling wet-to-dry stylers of the aughts).  The results have spoken for themselves, especially on TikTok where the tool has amassed over 142 million posts since just last year. In addition to content creators on TikTok, WWD’s shop editor Claire Sullivan has tested the

The Ninja Air Fryer Saved Me From a Dinner Party Disaster — And Now I Use It for Everything.

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. It’s the last day of Amazon Prime Day, but the home, fashion, and beauty deals are still hot, hot, hot! During our extensive coverage of the sales, I spotted a particular kitchen device that I constantly recommend to my friends at $100 off, and it recently saved the day when my oven was out of commission. Let me set the scene: It’s the night before my boyfriend’s birthday and I’m planning on surprising him with his favorite cake and a handful of his best friends. Candles were purchased, batter was mixed, and I open the oven to slot in my pan when I notice it never preheated. It was broken. Oh, the charms of New York City living. But if there’s one thing this town has taught me, it’s how to think on my feet. I look around my kitchen and my eyes land on my Ninja Air Fryer — “worth a shot,” I decided. Luckily, I purchased mini-size pans that fit into the baskets, so I immediately submerged myself into TikTok research to see whether it was possible. Turns out, plenty

Sophie Turner Is Ready for a Rom-com Comeback

Sophie Turner is giving a popular summertime staple — the Aperol Spritz — a run for its money. On Tuesday night, the actress was in New York serving up a floral drink alternative, the Hugo Spritz, on the beauty floor at Bergdorf Goodman. Turner, who stars in a new campaign for elderflower liqueur brand St-Germain, was kicking off the St-Germain Spritz Counter pop-up activation, which will be up at the department store through Sunday.  “I’m looking forward to hanging out with some fun, interesting people, drinking my Hugo Spritzes, and just being in New York for the night,” said Turner, shortly before heading over to Bergdorf Goodman for the event. “I’ve never bar-tended. I think I’ll hop behind the bar, but I’m hoping the drinks are pre-made,” she added. “Let’s hope it’s not me making the drinks. I’m not exactly a mixologist here. I’m just an actress.” Turner stars in a cheeky short film for the brand, shot at a castle in the South of France, in which she describes what she’s looking for to the man stationed behind the bar: “something different, fresh, fun.” The subtext is romantic, but he instead volleys back the perfect cocktail: a St-Germain Hugo Spritz. The viewer soon meets the woman he is searching for: Miko. Fifty years before embarking on his international journey — with a terminal illness and onset of a pandemic both looming — Kristofer is a college dropout looking for a job in the kitchen of a Japanese restaurant in London. The sight of the chef’s daughter, Miko, walking through the front door leaves him smitten. Watching the couple’s romance unfold onscreen similarly left Kōki, who stars as the young Miko in the film, speechless. “It was really emotional and touching. And I really loved how Baltasar juggled between the past and present,” says the actress, at home in Tokyo on the day of the film’s Stateside release. “I felt like I was having a really big flashback of myself as well, about all the memories of shooting.” The 21-year-old Japanese model and actress stars in the romantic drama, based on a novel by Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson, as a young transplant from Hiroshima living in London during the early ’70s. The film is told through

A Closer Look at J.D. Vance’s and His Wife Usha’s Style

After months of speculation and debate about whom Donald Trump would choose as his running mate, J.D. Vance was given the nod Monday afternoon. The 39-year-old Ohio senator is known beyond the Beltway and political circles, as is his wife Usha Vance, a high-powered attorney and mother of two sons and a daughter. The Cincinnati-based couple’s fashion style reflects their dual-sided work and family life. On Capitol Hill, the Millennial senator is a shirt-and-tie kind of guy, and at more relaxed public events or family outings, he favors such items as jeans, polo shirts, open-collar button-down dress shirts, dress pants, quarter-zip sweaters, chinos and the occasional hoodie. Like Trump, J.D. Vance also believes that suits make the man and doesn’t shy away from controversial statements. Vance criticized last year’s short-lived relaxed dress code instituted by the Senate and its majority leader. “Look I know [Chuck] Schumer changed the dress code, but letting someone in the senate chamber dressed like this really crosses the line,” Vance posted on “X” last year showing a photo of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in an army green button-down shirt that he wore when visiting Congress.  Within a week, that casualization movement was nixed in favor of a more-formal

Here’s Why the Royal Family-Approved Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Maintains Its Icon Status Today

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. What does it take for a beauty product to stay relevant for 90-plus years? Consider Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream a case study in the ‘It’ factor a beauty product needs to achieve that icon status. The apricot-hued salve has remained in the spotlight since its 1930 debut, buoyed by celebrity fans and adored by industry insiders for its limitless uses. A dab of Eight Hour Cream turns dry and ashy skin supple, smooths out split ends, and, according to one royal family member, can even cure frostbite. Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Skin Cream earned its name when one of Arden’s clients claimed the cream made a noticeable improvement on her son’s grazed knee in — you guessed it — eight hours. The universal salve quickly took off for its skin-healing properties and its laundry list of uses, lauded by names fans along the way. WWD Shop editors test and review Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream. Captured with the Leica Q3 Camera. Queen Elizabeth II was one of the iconic beauty product’s most ardent fans: So much so, that the brand

Best Dressed at Wimbledon 2024

Brad Pitt’s refreshed comeback at last year’s Wimbledon reinforced the tennis tournament as a major fashion playground and platform. Heritage menswear plays a central role in both menswear and womenswear, as seen now in fashion veteran Zendaya. But it was the Princess of Wales, who made a surprise appearance wearing a sleek, minimal purple chic dress, who stole the show. From Hollywood stars to royalty, the attendees have transformed the Wimbledon 2024 stands into a veritable runway. Here, WWD takes a closer look at the best-dressed guests at the tournament. Kate Middleton Kate Middleton Middleton stepped out for the men’s finals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships wearing a purple dress from British brand Safiyaa with gold hoop earrings from By Pariah. The princess first wore a dress from the brand in November last year to the Royal Variety Performance 2023 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Zendaya Zendaya Zendaya wore a white Ralph Lauren blazer, layering it over a blue and white striped button-up and a navy knit tie. She completed her look with diamond studs. Me+Em Is the Go-to Label for Royals, Celebrities and Labour Party Politicians

LONDON — What is the color of victory? Ask the ladies of Britain’s Labour Party and they’ll say it’s turquoise, cream, or the deep orange-red of an Aperol spritz, courtesy of the British clothing and accessories label Me+Em. Although Me+Em has been dressing royals, celebrities and working women for 15 years, the label known for its vibrant color palette is now on everyone’s lips after First Lady Victoria Starmer and Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner wore its looks on election night and for the victors’ parade into No. 10 Downing Street the next day. It’s not just the Labour Party winners who’ve embraced the label. The Princess of Wales has been wearing Me+Em for years, as have Helen Mirren, Amal Clooney, Olivia Colman, Margot Robbie and Katie Holmes. The Princess of Wales in a two-tone pink Me+Em dress at Chelsea Flower Show in 2023. They’re choosing it for a variety of reasons. The shapes and colors are flattering, and the prices aren’t crazy. Starmer’s cocktail-colored, orange-red midi dress costs 275 pounds, and is also crease-resistant and machine-washable, while Rayner’s bright turquoise, wide-leg trouser suit costs 550 pounds. In the land between high street fashion and luxury, that’s practically a steal. The styles are spot-on, too, argues

LONDON — Kate Middleton is slowly returning to her official royal duties. The Princess of Wales, patron of the All England Tennis and Croquet Club, stepped out for the men’s finals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships wearing a purple dress from British brand Safiyaa. Middleton made her first public appearance this year at Trooping the Colour in June. The last time the public saw her was on Christmas Day in 2023. Here’s Why Prada Beauty Lipsticks Aren’t Just Another Overpriced Designer Product

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. When Prada Beauty burst onto the scene in fall 2023, the collection made the only entrance appropriate for a highly-anticipated designer beauty label: on the runway, of course. The line debuted on models during Prada’s spring 2024 show in Milan, where glossy eyelids juxtaposed with matte, lived-in lips for an attainable take on an editorial look. Since debuting at retailers like Nordstrom earlier this year, Prada lipsticks have become the line’s breakout star, not only selling out but also making a cameo in Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please” music video. Given the buzz — and a limited-time deal on a Prada Lipstick set during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale — our WWD Shop editors have been testing out Prada Beauty lipstick to write this review. The Prada Beauty lip collection includes three formulations: a lip balm that primes your smile for a swipe of color, the buildable Soft Matte lipstick, and the intensely pigmented Hyper Matte lipstick. Based on tester reviews and inventory at Sephora and Nordstrom, the Monochrome Soft Matte Lipstick is the crown jewel of the trio, likely because

Inside ‘Oh, Mary!’ Opening Night on Broadway With Austin Butler, Kaia Gerber & More

“Oh, Mary!” was so good, they had to see it twice. Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber were in good company on Thursday night as they made their way into the Lyceum Theatre for the play’s Broadway opening night, with a crowd that included many show regulars. “I’ve seen the show off-Broadway several times, and I’m excited to see it on Broadway,” said comedian Murray Hill on his way into the theater. “It’s a big deal when a performer from downtown travels 30 blocks uptown. I wouldn’t miss this for anything.” The hit play transferred to Broadway after a twice-extended off-Broadway run, lauded by critics and audiences alike. “This is like Christmas morning mixed with my birthday, mixed with losing my virginity, all in one night,” said writer and star Cole Escola, who walked the carpet in a custom corseted Wiederhoeft gown before heading into the theater to change into a different, more voluminous, black gown for the show. Escola leads the comedy as first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, reimagined as a manic aspiring cabaret performer. “I’m just surprised that people still want to come see it. I’m surprised that it’s selling out on Broadway. That’s wild,” they added. “And I’m surprised that I

The 9 Best Drugstore Sunscreens for Face and Body, Tested by Editors

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. There’s one beauty product that’s a non-negotiable for any skin care routine, no matter the season: sunscreen. While luxury brands formulate rich creams and sensorial sprays, the drugstore aisles are home to equally amazing SPFs for under $20 — meaning you can reapply face sunscreen liberally without worrying about your wallet. Our editors test sunscreens 365 days a year, and this guide to the best drugstore sunscreens spotlights our favorite formulas for every skin type under the sun. Rewind a couple decades ago, and the drugstore shelves were full of tropical-scented creams from Hawaiian Tropic and Banana Boat. Gayle Rankin Goes From Broadway to HBO in ‘House of the Dragon’

What better way to follow up a Tony-nominated performance in one of the year’s most talked about Broadway shows than with a role in television’s current blockbuster? After a glimpse of Alys Rivers in the third episode, Gayle Rankin officially arrived in “House of the Dragon” during Sunday’s episode four, which is just the beginning for her character’s journey in the episodes ahead.  Her premiere in the “Game of Thrones” spinoff show, which became a hit last year with its first season, comes as Rankin is still at work nightly onstage as Sally Bowles in the revival of “Cabaret.” Rankin was nominated for a Tony for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance.  When she calls WWD, the 34-year-old Scottish actress, previously best known for her role in “Glow,” is prepping for the day’s show, relaxing at home in a face mask before heading over to the August Wilson Theatre.  While most down time is about keeping her voice ready for Broadway, she’s relishing in the opportunity to finally get to talk about Alys, her “House of the Dragon” character, a long held secret.  “What’s so cool about the ‘House of the Dragon’ and the ‘Game of Thrones’ empire and fan base is it’s

Behind the Scenes at Paris Fashion Week With Selma Blair

The one and only Selma Blair has been busy lately, first on duty during the Tribeca Film Festival as a jury member and then as a front row regular in Paris, for the Ami show during men’s fashion week and then at the couture shows of Balenciaga, Schiaparelli and Jean Paul Gaultier. She also celebrated her 52nd birthday in town, at the Vogue World event no less. “It felt like the whole world conspired to throw me a party,” she said.  For the Ami show, which Blair described as “the Paris style adored by everyone,” she requested “long wavy hair, editorial hair” and her hair stylist Paul Jones worked his magic.  Fashion-wise, she opted for a tailored coat. “The fit of this coat as a dress was perfection. The gloves, the hair, the petite bag, all very polished. Parisienne conviction of style. Well earned,” she said. “I love a glove but I took them off at a party and they remained long after I did, to my horror. Sorry Ami Paris. I hope someone is loving them. And returns them to Ami.” For the Schiaparelli couture show, Blair wore a tie made out of braided hair, and paired it with her own hair worn

Singer Amaarae Discusses Her New Music and Tours with With Childish Gambino and Sabrina Carpenter

This summer, Amaarae is finishing what she started. The Ghanaian American singer released “Fountain Baby,” her second album and a breakout hit, to critical acclaim in June 2023. But despite landing on countless “best of 2023” lists, there was one list that evaded her: the Grammy nominations. With the release of “Roses Are Red, Tears Are Blue — A Fountain Baby Extended Play,” she’s optimistic that a different story will play out this year. “Last year, ‘Fountain Baby’ got snubbed for the Grammys and I know that this year we’re eligible because it’s a new kind of project,” she says on the day of the EP’s release. “It’s just something that I really wanted, and I was kind of disappointed that it didn’t happen last year. But I feel like it’s something that’s within reach this year.” The honesty is refreshing, and the ambitious singer, on the cusp of her 30th birthday, is equally candid when discussing her process as a songwriter and performer. She started out as a DJ, and curation — of collaborators, music genres and which tracks make it onto an album — is central to her creative approach. The new EP was originally conceived as “two remixes and a

The 15 Best Foundations for Acne-Prone Skin to Make Your Blemishes Invisible

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Updated July 1, 2024: This guide to the best foundations for acne-prone skin was updated with new foundation selections after a round of product testing. Our editors are currently testing additional foundations for acne-prone skin from brands like Saie and Merit Beauty for consideration in this expert-approved guide. We’ve all woken up on the wrong side of the bed — that is, with a breakout that’s seemingly emerged overnight. Acne is frustrating, and oftentimes, concealing it only adds to the headache. Some full-coverage options can clog pores and worsen the breakout, while others don’t provide enough camouflaging power. The best foundations for acne-prone skin, on the other hand, deliver coverage that doesn’t trigger breakouts or cause a flare-up in your existing problem areas. If complexion products for oily skin call to mind a chalky matte finish, think again. The latest league of acne-friendly foundations don’t just conceal your acne and tamp down shine; they restore your skin barrier and lend a natural, skin-mimicking finish that you’ll feel comfortable wearing daily over your favorite non-comedogenic sunscreen and moisturizer for acne-prone skin.
