Trump and Arnault Meet in Rural Texas

Alvarado, Tex. — The world’s most powerful luxury fashion titan just Texas two-stepped with presidential politics. In a surreal scene on Thursday afternoon, Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy chairman and chief executive officer Bernard Arnault opened the doors of his new leather goods workshop in rural Alvarado, Tex., for President Donald Trump to tout his administration’s jobs-creation record at a flashy, fashion-y ribbon-cutting event attended by the president’s daughter and son-in-law, White House special advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, as well as other state and local dignitaries; U.S. cabinet secretaries; Arnault’s son Alexandre, and Louis Vuitton chairman and chief executive officer Michael Burke. “This shows two commitments: One, the commitment of LVMH to the American market, and two, the commitment of President Trump to the American worker,” Arnault said in his remarks at the workshop employing 150, noting that the U.S. is the most valuable market in the world for LVMH, and represents 25 percent of its total business, or more than $10 billion a year.
