Chanel Postpones Hong Kong Fashion Show

Chanel has decided to postpone a planned Nov. 6 showing of its cruise 2019 collection in Hong Kong, which is engulfed in social unrest that shows few signs of relenting. The French fashion house would only say that any fashion event in Hong Kong would be “later” and at a “more appropriate moment.” “It depends on the situation,” Bruno Pavlovsky, president of fashion and president of Chanel SAS, told WWD. “We’ll have another opportunity.” Meanwhile, “we continue to service clients in the boutiques and they are there. Hong Kong is a key market. We have a very strong Hong Kongese customer base,” he added. Chanel counts nine boutiques in Hong Kong, including one at the airport, and three in Macau. The 2019 Cruise collection, originally paraded in Paris last May, will be available from Nov. 6 in all its locations, as planned. The company had hinted in mid-August that the repeat fashion show, slated to take place at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, might be in jeopardy. “Like all brands present in Hong Kong, we are keeping a close watch on events, and have not yet made a decision,” it said at the time.
