Rihanna Goes Back to the Archives With Snakeskin Gucci Bag
Rihanna went back to the archives for her off-duty Los Angeles look on Monday, styling a snakeskin tote bag from Gucci’s spring 1996 collection, designed under the direction of former creative director Tom Ford. With her look, the mononymous singer and Savage x Fenty founder curated her attire with a graphic long-sleeve shirt and flowing striped pants evocative of the “dayjama” trend. The bag’s design came during Tom Ford’s time as creative director of the Italian luxury fashion house. Ford departed Gucci in 2005 and launched his eponymous label in 2006. Ford’s 1996 spring women’s collection for Gucci featured several animal print motifs, particularly zebra print dresses. Lace was used in the collection as well, with an approachable iteration on glamour that echoed the sensibility of the mid-1990s.
