Women’s Shoe Label Scarlett Chase Is Putting Orthopedic Comfort and Elegance on Equal Footing, Finally

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Sandra Powers Murphy cut her teeth on Wall Street,  started her own broker-dealer, published a book on marketing consulting, and otherwise stayed about as far away from the footwear industry as one can. Then, the mother of six experienced an awakening — in the form of a work trip to New York.  ”It was 7:00 p.m., and I really wanted to catch the last train back to Boston. It was pouring rain and there were no cabs, if you can imagine a time before Uber, and I was like, ‘The only way I’m making this train is by taking off my shoes and running the 10 blocks,'” Murphy tells Footwear News. “Which is literally what I did, and when I got to Penn Station, I thought, ‘Oh my God. I probably just gave myself meningitis.’ How is this possibly what women were stuck dealing with? I just had this great day of meetings, I had the resources, and yet I couldn’t solve this problem,” she continues. “So I got on the train, called my assistant at the time, and she asked me,

William Franklyn-Miller Brings a Young George Washington to the Screen

William Franklyn-Miller didn’t initially think he — a young British actor — was cut out to portray George Washington in a biopic.  ”When I got the audition, I was like, ‘There’s no way they’re gonna give it to an English guy,’” says Franklyn-Miller, the star of “Young Washington.” “But technically, he was part of the colony — so he was British at the start, even though he was born in what would become the United States.” Franklyn-Miller stars as George Washington in the coming-of-age biopic, which focuses on the founding father’s experiences pre-Revolutionary War. The film centers on his rise to leadership, and missteps, during the French and Indian War. “Young Washington” premiered at the Tribeca Festival ahead of its wide release Friday, timed to Independence Day weekend during America’s semiquincentennial year. Franklyn-Miller was recently in New York for an extended stretch of time, accompanied by his sister and brother, for the festival and press ahead of the film’s red carpet premiere in Nashville.  William Franklyn-Miller, in Saint Laurent, at the “Young Washington” world premiere in Nashville. The Best Home Saunas for Optimizing Your Recovery and Relaxation This Season

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Saunas are one of the hottest (pardon our pun) wellness trends right now, and for good reason. These relaxation maximizers ask nothing of you: only to hop in, close the door, and enter a meditative state. Their plethora of potential advantages is precisely what’s making at-home saunas an increasingly popular home goods category, since heat exposure and sweating have been linked to improved post-workout recovery, stress reduction, deeper sleep, and mood elevation with regular use. According to Dr. Tania Elliott, a board-certified longevity and women’s health doctor, saunas can “give your heart a workout without moving a muscle, helping dilate your vessels to increase blood flow to the heart and brain,” which is where the cardiovascular component of saunas’ rolodex of benefits stems from. Said blood flow is also directed to the skin, contributing to a “sauna glow,” as Dr. Elliott puts it, that will only complement your serums, peptide regimen, and all the other ways you’re already taking care of your complexion. The ultimate perk of owning a sauna, though? It takes just 10 to 30 minutes of use to start feeling

Why Real Transformation Is Human

“Chief Impact Officer: Real Transformation Comes from Human — Not Just Artificial — Intelligence,” published last week by 8080 Books (an imprint of Microsoft), is a leadership memoir and business strategy book written by Julie Averill. Drawing on her two decades of experience leading technological innovations across major retail brands, including serving as the global chief information officer at Lululemon and REI and as an executive at Nordstrom, Averill shares the raw, “messy” realities behind corporate and digital transformations. The book counters the modern obsession with algorithms and AI, arguing that the definitive differentiator in any successful modernization effort is organizational culture, psychological safety and human capability rather than the technology itself. Divided into sections covering her foundational life experiences, major career transformations, and future-looking leadership practices, the book provides a practical roadmap for leading change without absolute authority. Averill weaves personal stories from her childhood and private life, including the cost of hiding her identity as an LGBTQIA+ leader and navigating trauma, with high-stakes corporate crises such as global supply chain disruptions, a 24-hour website crash and a massive omnichannel integration. Here, Averill shares some insights about what motivated her to write a book, and why company culture is not a “soft

The customary furisode, which translates loosely to swinging sleeves, gave the overall look even more depth and cultural reverence. The skirt incorporated some of the modern, playful elements Osaka’s become well-known for when it comes to her on-court looks. The four-time grand slam champion‘s long skirt featured tiered tulle fabric with a semi-sheer appearance. Doechii Goes Archival in Dsquared2 for The BET Awards 2026 Red Carpet

Doechii favored retro styling in Dsquared2 for Sunday night’s 2026 BET Awards red carpet in Los Angeles. Doechii Christopher Polk The Grammy Award-winning “Anxiety” artist wore a selection from the brand’s spring 2006 ready-to-wear collection. The deep brown dress gave the illusion of ornate crochet craftsmanship, with a halter neckline and a tied back that created a mostly plunging backless element and cutouts at the sides. With the illusion of the crochet material, the dress showcased its ornate construction, complete with a floral motif at the center, fitted bust and drop waist that transitioned to an expansive skirt with a train that trailed Doechii on the arrival carpet. Doechii Earl Gibson III The entire look merged sensuality, craft and Y2K trends together. Under the styling of Sam Woolf, Doechii’s become a red carpet fixation over the course of the last few years. You’ve seen them gracing the feet of OG Anunoby (one of the most-searched Knicks players since the start of the 2026 NBA Playoffs) during pivotal moments like that game-winning tip-in and his 9-of-13 performance for Game Three. They’ve also been shouted out by a different type of icon — specifically Martha Stewart, who made an Instagram post on May 21 spotlighting her “favorite” sneakers from the brand, as spotted on Anunoby. The latter proceeded to send her a signed pair. We’re talking about Skechers’ basketball shoe lineup, of course, which has received an overwhelming amount of attention after Anunoby became the first player to wear Skechers during the NBA Finals. These Collaborations Between High-End Hotels and Luxury Designers Are Worth Adding to Cart — No Plane Ticket Required

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Geotagging yourself in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is no longer cutting it. These days, refined travelers are turning to something a bit less tacky and a bit more tasteful when it comes to flaunting their globetrotting, Amex Platinum–having, passport stamp–collecting pursuits — by wearing that frequent-traveler status, quite literally, on their sleeves. We’re talking about the intimate, and relatively new, marriage between the world’s top hotels and luxury designers, which over the years has served a few key purposes: helping a particular resort’s top one percent of loyalists identify each other from Ibiza to Innsbruck and sending guests home with a more sophisticated souvenir than a fridge magnet, all while feeding into the universal obsession with collectibles (all the better if the items are marked by a distinctly “IYKYK” air). Queen Letizia of Spain Pops in Hugo Boss Rewear

Queen Letizia of Spain revived one of her Hugo Boss dresses for the 15th anniversary of Ethic magazine at Ortega-Marañón foundation headquarters in Madrid on Thursday. The queen consort wore a jade tone sleeveless dress with a belted waisted and exposed seams. The midi dress was crafted with a rounded neckline and visible seams down the front and sides of the piece, which carried through to the skirt of the look. Queen Letizia of Spain WireImage A black buckle belted waist provided silhouette definition for the modern dress, which included a slight slit at the center-front of the skirt. Illusion flap pockets also added further contemporary elements that served to elongate the dress with straight lines. Other elements of Queen Letizia’s attire for Thursday’s outing in Madrid included a pair of slingback pointed toe kitten heels in black and the Carolina Herrera “Victoria” insignia satchel bag, also cast in black to coordinate with the belt buckle and heels. Queen Letizia of Spain WireImage Queen Letizia favored a minimalist approach to her jewelry pieces. The Spanish royal wore a pair of Gold & Roses triple hoops. Getting Ready With Lexi Minetree for ‘Elle’ Premiere in Betsey Johnson

What other way to pay homage to Elle Woods than custom Betsey Johnson? For the premiere of the new Prime Video series “Elle,” a prequel to the famed “Legally Blonde” movies, actress Lexi Minetree went pink and sparkly, in a long custom Betsey Johnson gown, Bulgari bag and Bulgari jewels.  “I feel so beautiful in it,” the 25-year-old says.  Lexi Minetree Emily Soto/Courtesy photo Minetree, who was hand-picked for the role by the original Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon herself, has been working with stylist Molly Dickson on “Legally Blonde” and ‘90s themed looks for the press tour (the show is set in 1995).  “When I came to [Dickson] I was like, ‘Elle Woods is a fashion icon and I want to pay homage to that. Obviously I want to pay tribute to ’90s fashion and couture, but I would also love to tip with a hat to Elle’s movies, too.’” That has resulted in baby blue Dolce & Gabbana as well as the light pink Betsey Johnson moment — and plenty of jewels.  “This is a whole new experience for me. There were literally diamond babysitters there during my fitting [with Bulgari],” Minetree says. “Standing outside and they’re looking really tough and intimidating as I’m in this fairy

I Tried Taylor Swift’s Posture Bra for My Mild Scoliosis — Here’s Everything to Know (and More Alternatives to Shop)

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. I’ve suffered from back pain for as long as I can remember — not a typical statement for a 22-year-old to make. Visits to orthopedists, late-night WebMD doomscrolls, and research into alternative medicines were, for the most part, fruitless yet all confirmed one thing: I had scoliosis that wasn’t severe enough for a back brace (or surgery, for that matter) but still pronounced enough to diminish my well-being. Over time, I learned that daily exercise makes the aches and tension go away, and my dad even went so far as to build a triangular, wooden contraption for me to lay on when I was doing my schoolwork: leading to better spinal alignment and pressure reduction in the long run. At this point in my life, my scoliosis-related struggles are not as severe as they were when I was hitting puberty, but I nonetheless wake up with pain and, on days when I can’t squeeze a workout in, feel worse for wear. So imagine my delight at finding a way to ease these challenges while also improving my notoriously bad posture — something that didn’t

Holly Gibson/Courtesy Photos Tell us about your look for the Dior show? How did you select it? “Even the energy during my fitting was contagious. I wore the first outfit I tried on out of three — it was an immediate yes. I loved the white on white, and then I paired it with cool sunglasses. I love Dior sunglasses. What struck me the most was how immediately comfortable I felt in it. I barely had to ‘zhuzh’ it at all. It just felt perfect to me.” Who did you sit with at the show and who did you get to meet? “I sat with an incredible fashion documentarian, Loïc Prigent, who was telling me all about the

Zendaya Merges Method Dressing and Retro Finesse

Zendaya spun a web of high-fashion sensibility in a retro Giorgio Armani dress for the “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” premiere in Rome on Tuesday night with husband and costar Tom Holland. Zendaya Getty Images The Emmy Award-winning “Euphoria” star wore a dress from the late Italian designer‘s spring 1990 ready-to-wear collection. The dress was crafted with a sheer overlay set against a taupe fabric, which included a strapless bodice and flowing skirt. The black overlay, however, brought the method dressing element to the forefront of stylist Law Roach’s vision for Zendaya’s red carpet attire. All over the sheer black fabric, crystallized embellishments with a web-like pattern cascaded down the sheer overlay. Zendaya Getty Images Auburn-toned gems were added to the fabric as well, creating a visual contrast and heightening the look with further sartorial tension. Small, insect-inspired gems were also added near the rounded neckline and at the hip of the sleeveless design. With a dress so sparkling, Zendaya pared back her other accessories. The actress wore a pair of Elsa Peretti snake earrings in yellow gold from Tiffany & Co. that augmented her 1920s-styled “bixie.” She also wore the Bird on a Rock by Tiffany & Co. wings wide ring in platinum with diamonds by the brand. The 32-year-old phenom’s summer takeover kicked off this May, so fans already had some time to dole out styling inspiration — arriving at “Together, Together” concerts in everything from bejeweled crochet hats to graphic tees referencing the artist’s latest lyrics and men’s ties styled with more feminine threads. If we had to give it all an overarching name, we’d say “unserious office siren,” as a nod, perhaps, to Styles’ own sartorial equations on stage and in recent music videos. The Best On Shoes to Wear for Running, Walking, and Every Activity in Between

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. On is the world’s fastest-growing premium athletic brand for a reason — it straddles the line between fashion, performance, and culture like no other footwear manufacturer, walking luxury fashion houses’ runways, tapping the likes of Zendaya to co-create new styles, and featuring front and center on marathon podiums in the same breath. On first hit shelves in 2010 and, for the past 15-plus years, has been crafting zeitgeisty moments that stick the landing, be it by releasing its Loewe collection (ranking as the hottest product on Lyst Index’s Q2 2024 report); getting key placements throughout the hit movie “Challengers”; working with athletes like Roger Federer; and even extending its reach into unlikely categories like food (the recent On x Erewhon collaboration is proof of concept). While its apparel roster is “quietly becoming one of the strongest in the category,” according to brand copy, On’s shoe lineup is still undisputably king. From winning the NYC marathon in 2025 after outfitting Hellen Obiri in the LightSpray Cloudboom Strike LS to rolling out stunning innovations like its proprietary Helion Superfoam midsole and propulsive Speedboard plate,

Burberry Hosts ‘A Good Sport’ to Cheer on England vs Croatia

“Oh my god, the burgers,” gasped a guest rather breathlessly as she spotted a tray of Corner Bistro’s signature mini cheeseburgers in the distance. And who could blame her: the famed Corner Bistro burger was one of the main draws to cut work and pop into Burberry’s afternoon party called “A Good Sport,” held during the England and Croatia World Cup match. The TVs inside the West Village restaurant were showing the game, while the space had been cleared out to allow for mingling of guests like Myha’la, Adam DiMarco, Richie Shazam, Delaney Rowe, Olivia Ponton, Indira Scott, Paige Powell, Elsie Hewitt, Ella Emhoff, Tony Ozkan and Yesly Dimate. Burberry’s creative director Daniel Lee, wearing an England jacket, snuck in the restaurant’s side entrance. Pimm’s Cups and dirty martinis circulated as new Charli XCX played overhead. Outside the restaurant a Burberry check-painted ice cream truck was parked, which guests visited during commercial breaks.  “Come on Kane!” an English fan shouted passionately to Harry Kane on the TV as the player scored.  “Do you like soccer? Er, football?” DiMarco asked the woman to his left, both glancing up at the screen.  The room would erupt into a brief cheer after each England goal — they went

Best Shoes for Nurses to Shop Online, From Clogs and Crocs to Running Sneakers

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Let’s get one thing straight: Nurses are real-life superheroes, tasked with providing essential medical care while, oftentimes, being overworked and underpaid. If you or someone you love is a nurse — fluent in terms like “PITA,” “The Q-Word,” and “Code Brown” — nothing could be a more thoughtful gift for the miracle worker in question than a supportive, comfortable, and actually flattering pair of shoes to carry them, or your very own self, through all those rounds, chart updates, rushed lunch breaks, blood draws, and patient consultations. Studies have shown that nurses walk an average of five miles during a 12-hour shift and a bit over three miles in an eight-hour one. What this means? You should treat shopping for the best nurse shoes just as seriously as you would browsing the internet for long-distance walking shoes or running sneakers to wear to an upcoming 5K — honing in on specs like high traction (hospital floors get slippery!); impressive shock absorption for standing on hard surfaces; an easy-to-clean exterior should your patient, well, we’ll spare you the details; and mighty arch support

Asha Banks Talks ‘Your Fault: London,’ Music Career and Finding Herself in Noah

Asha Banks can’t quite believe she’s back again so soon. The 22-year-old musician and actor is promoting her new film “Your Fault: London,” following the success of the trilogy’s first film only last year. “My Fault: London” was released in February 2025, the cast got the green light for a second and went back to film both the second and third films, wrapping this past Halloween. Now she’s gearing up to release “Your Fault” into the world, out Wednesday on Prime Video.  “The first time around felt like such a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I can’t quite believe that it’s happening again,” Banks says. The London films are based on Mercedes Ron’s Wattpad sensation novel series called “Culpables,” which were turned into Spanish films beginning in 2023. The first film, “Culpa Mia,” became Prime Video’s most popular film worldwide. Banks stars as Noah, who moves from Florida to London when her mother remarries a wealthy Englishman. Tensions immediately begin between Noah and Nick, the son of her mother’s new husband, played by “Buccaneers” star Matthew Broome.  “It’s so nice going in this time around knowing that we have a fan base,” Banks says of returning to the “My Fault” world. “I feel like the first one

I haven’t had a whole lot of time to reflect on life, and I think a lot of that happens if you’re not moving too much.” Also on the docket: see some plays, go to the movies and, perhaps, make a trip out to the Hamptons for a beach day. “I’ve only been once,” she said. “I’m working on my Hamptons connects.” Nicky Campbell, Grace Gummer and Sarah Pidgeon. The Best Long-Distance Walking Shoes (and Why They’re Better Than Running Shoes)

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Walking might be the most widespread form of exercise, but, like with any fitness activity, your gear matters. Even though you can (and do) walk in all shoes, tackling long-distance jaunts for the purpose of breaking a sweat requires proper footwear. Luckily, there are plenty of impressive, purpose-built walking shoes on the market. Something that might surprise you? The best long-distance walking shoes are different than the running shoes many people lace up before a long stroll.  Running shoes are built for impact absorption at a higher speed and cadence, often being equipped with more responsive (bouncy) midsole foam and a higher heel stack that could actually cause discomfort and instability during long walks. Long-distance walking shoes, by contrast, prioritize cushioning under the heel and flexibility at the forefoot, since walking involves a heel-to-toe roll rather than a midfoot or forefoot strike. They also tend to have a lower heel drop, a more rigid sole for sustained support over hours, and less aggressive tread than running shoe counterparts. We combed through hundreds of offerings in this latter category to find five of the best

The Best Pickleball Shoes to Shop Online, for Moving Comfortably From Baseline to Kitchen

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, WWD may receive an affiliate commission. Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the United States — having invaded people’s post-work and weekend schedules at a mahjong-like speed. There are now over 80,000 courts that exist all over the country, with more than 24 million Americans having played the sport at some point last year. You might find yourself somewhere on the spectrum between “begrudging enjoyer” and “devoted picklehead,” but what’s universal is just how important the right pickleball shoes are for the activity in question. Truly, shoes for playing pickleball can make or break a game, standing between you and that two-point margin (no, we’re not just talking about style points here). Like tennis shoes or even golf shoes, this specialty footwear needs to check a number of boxes — ensuring sufficient lateral reinforcement via a sturdy upper; impressive outsole traction for side-to-side movements sans slipping; lightweight durability; speed secured by a not-too-high midsole, resulting in a lower center of gravity; and arch support to forestall back pain from creeping in as you’re trying to cool down. Rachel Chinouriri on Sweating, Jumping and Screaming at Gov Ball 2026

“Did it say ‘storm is in the area?’” Rachel Chinouriri asked after settling into a tent on the grounds at Gov Ball. The English musician was still getting the hang of the ever-changing nature of New York summer weather — which this past weekend included a fair share of flash storms — but was in high spirits nonetheless.
