Marc Jacobs and Sofia Coppola Discuss Their Artistic Process on ‘Late Night’
Marc Jacobs and Sofia Coppola hit the late-night circuit in a classic, coordinated black and white color scheme on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on Wednesday night in New York City. During their time on the show, they discussed their forthcoming documentary “Marc by Sofia,” which takes the filmmaker behind the scenes at Jacobs’ fashion shows and creative process, curating new collections and reflecting on past designs. Jacobs shared with Meyers how, when it comes to pulling ideas that previously did not work and incorporating them into a new collection, it’s not about a choice being deliberate. “Things just kind of come up,” Jacobs said. “There was no plan, like, ‘Let’s put this away to be re-looked at in the future.’ It was just like, things come up and they feel right in that moment and you just kind of go for it. Sometimes we drop them again. But if we go for it and it works, it’s great.” Coppola followed up on the couturier’s musings, saying, “Just sitting backstage, Marc was looking at my jacket, and he said — it’s from a few years ago — ‘Oh, I wouldn’t have put the satin trim on now.'” Marc Jacobs, left, and Sofia Coppola LloydFollow WWD on Twitter or become a fan on Facebook.
