Hilfiger Encourages FIT Graduates to Keep Chasing their Dreams

Tommy Hilfiger encouraged the graduates of Fashion Institute of Technology’s Jay and Patty Baker School of Business and Technology to never give up and always chase one’s dreams. Speaking at Radio City Music Hall Wednesday afternoon, Hilfiger was the recipient of the President’s Award for Lifetime Achievement. “Today marks a momentous occasion for all of you. You will be taking the dream that you have nurtured these past few years and sharing it with the rest of the world,” said Hilfiger. “Like me, for some of you, that dream probably began at a very young age. Hilfiger reminisced about his early days when he used to listen to bands and musicians like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix and said he wanted to be a rock star, just like them. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t sing nor could I play the guitar. So I decided to look the part instead,” said the designer. He grew his hair long, started wearing bell-bottom jeans, fringed vests, and wide belts.
