Urban Outfitters Announces C-suite Changes

Urban Outfitters is shaking up its senior leadership team. The retailer, which includes Anthropologie, Free People and a food division, in addition to its namesake brand in the company’s broader portfolio, said Tuesday that Andrew Carnie, president of Home, Garden and International at the Anthropologie Group will leave the company April 26. Carnie, who has been with Urban Outfitters for six years, will return to his native U.K. In a statement released by the company, Urban Outfitters chief executive officer and chairman Richard Hayne thanked Carnie for his service.   “Under his leadership, Home category sales doubled, the brand launched a Home wholesale business and Anthropologie opened its first two stores in continental Europe,” Hayne said. The company’s stock, which closed up 0.8 percent to $29.31 a share Tuesday, is down more than 28 percent year-over-year. Shares briefly shot up last month after the company released results from an especially lucrative quarter, improving on both top and bottom lines. But the gains were mostly felt online. In fact, the uptick in revenues were offset by negative same-store sales in brick-and-mortar locations, while sales in the wholesale channel rose only 3 percent during the quarter.
