Maus Frères Names Romain Guinier CEO of The Kooples

PARIS — Maus Frères has named Romain Guinier chief executive officer of The Kooples, tapping an executive from within the group as it takes control of the newly acquired label. The discrete, family-owned retail group, which is based in Switzerland, announced in March that it was in exclusive negotiations to buy the contemporary French fashion brand, citing its urban rock positioning as attractive for the group. It also owns Lacoste, Gant and Aigle, a label headed by Guinier for the past decade and known for its ubiquitous French rain boots and hardy jackets. Guinier has held a number of high-ranking positions in Europe for luxury brand Louis Vuitton and lower-priced apparel company Celio, after starting his career at L’Oréal, according to his LinkedIn profile. The Kooples was founded in 2008 by brothers Alexandre, Laurent and Raphaël Elicha, and generated revenues of 227 million euros last year. With a network of 334 stores, the label mostly operates in Europe and the U.S. The brand has placed an emphasis on accessories, which are organized around a select number of handbag models including the Emily bag – designed with Emily Ratajkowski – as well as a broad selection of outerwear, from biker jackets to fuzzy, faux-fur coats.
